  • Tutorial on how to change the odometer backlight on a 6th generation Honda Accord (1998 1999 2000 2001 2002). I replaced my bulb for a total cost of $5 which I found at a local auto parts store. In order to access the old bulb you'll need a screwdriver to remove some screws and pull out the instrument cluster display. The hardest part is blindly looking for the bulb with your hand. The vehicle shown in the video is a 2002 Honda Accord and the whole process should take less than 5 minutes.
    Check out my updated video on how to change out any light within your instrument cluster display • 1998-2002 Honda Accord...
    Buy a 2721 Bulb from my amazon affiliated site below: amzn.to/2Cf2gxg
    If you need the bulb and the Toshiba V2 it's Honda part #35505-SA5-003 amzn.to/2CaNbgj

      My mom has a 2002 Honda Civic Dx and one of the bulb for gear {D} went out so I replaced it. After I replaced one of the dash boad light for {D} , I put everything back together and after I plugged the yellow clip and blue clip back in the unit , the thermostate(temperature) gauge needle goes way far below letter C when I clearly put the needle ON letter C not below C - I just don't get it. Please help me out .

    Great video ! Clear and concise. Everything I needed to know. Nothing I didn’t need to know. I have been working on cars for over 40 years. I most always like to watch a video first just to make sure I don’t miss anything. And I have to say your video is one of the better ones. Thank you. 😎

    To remove the plastic black bezel, the video references the two clips towards the back. In fact, they're in the front and if you don't pull them straight out, they'll snap off, especially as these cars are now 20 years old. Use a plastic pry bar in the front to pop the front corners out, don't just tug.

    One thing that's good to remember to extend the life of any bulb, wear gloves, because the oils on your fingers can shorten the life of your bulbs.

    Looks easy enough to remove. Thanks! Almost all the bulbs in an Accord I am fixing for a family member is burnt out. Barely see the speedometer. Poor thing is old and tons of miles, but still going strong! This should make it feel younger again :)

    This was a good video but I found that it was easier to disconnect the wiring harness plugs and pull the cluster completely out so I could change the bulb. Otherwise you could risk dropping the bulb and socket and breaking the bulb or losing it. I bought the 2721 bulbs at Advance Auto Parts they were 2 for $5.99. Honda list price for 1 is almost $10! That bulb gets its power from the ignition switch so it is on whenever the key is in run position. My Accord is a 2002 model built 8/01 so that bulb was over 19 years old! That 2721 bulb also works on the gearshift indicator on the floor console. On the old cars with generators dash lights didn't last very long and you had to be a contortionist to reach your hand under the dashboard to replace them.

    Avoid touching the bulb directly with your fingers...the oils on your hand will degrade the glass, and you will be doing this again sooner then later; use a tissue paper when putting the bulb in the v2, or any other time you need to touch the glass. Thanks; nice video.

      That rule only applies to halogen because they use quartz glass instead of regular glass. Those were mainly used for headlights until everybody started going to LED, while the light he's using is just your standard incandescent bulb.

    • @Milosz_Ostrow
      @Milosz_Ostrow 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +vtecx626 - What you're describing sounds like a broken ground connection, probably the ground for the instrument panel. As long as the headlights are off, they're providing a "sneak" path to ground; although it isn't a good ground, the relatively low resistance of the headlight filaments is good enough for the panel lights to work. However, when the headlights are turned on, the voltage on their filaments rises to 12-13.5 volts and the "ground" voltage at the instrument panel is no longer at zero volts, so the lights go out.

      You can as it will help eliminate transferring any oil or dirt from your hands onto the bulb but it is not required. If you purchase part #35505-SA5-003 you won't have to touch the bulb at all since it has a plastic base.

    Where did you find that 2721 bulb? No one I called has it, including the dealer.

      Steve52344 I picked it up at a Oreilly Auto Parts store. I think any local auto parts store should have it

      Rene Did you remove the bulb from the back of the instrument panel or from an area BEHIND the panel?

    • @RenePicazo
      @RenePicazo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve52344 I removed it from the instrument panel itself once I pulled it forward , I think it's at 2 minutes in the video

    Why didn't you just disconnect the wiring harness from the cluster and remove it from the vehicle to show a better video of where the bulb actually goes, would have taken only a minute longer.

      Check out the NEW & updated video on how to replace any lights within the instrument cluster display. Instrument cluster is removed to show the back of it th-cam.com/video/Ua6BRk08f5s/w-d-xo.html

    is the 4door 1999 a 4cyclender?

    • @RenePicazo
      @RenePicazo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was performed on a 2002 Accord 4Door 4Cyl, should work on any accord no matter the type of cylinders or doors.

    Why is every video I see of this 6 gen Accord has less than 250,000 miles on it. Mine has almost reached 300,000

    I don't get why Honda doesn't go with an analog odometer like they used to, considering every other thing is analog.
