I love watching your explanations. I am super dooper new - learning here in Hawaii, and I wish you were here to teach...so the next best thing is watching your videos. You have an excellent way of explaining...and breaking down segments of the instruction. Keep it up.
This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen. It’s so clear, well explained, and systemic. I love the arrows and charts you put in. Looking forward to working on this tomorrow with my new (and first) horse.
The steps of training are easy to follow but what do you do if you have a horse who gets confused by the reins and only constantly turns? I feel she has had SOME trading but only some and starting her from scratch the proper way seems to only confuse her and make her refuse to move. Suggestions?
Yeah I felt exactly the same with my horse I found I really had to teach him to move off my leg rather than reins 😣 it’s really hard and frustrating but that’s the only thing that I found works ❤ hope this helps
It looks good, when you talk of these teaching/ learning sessions for the horse are you speaking of everyday ( of course time permitting) or do or can you do it every other day and pick up where you left off on the last session? Another great video.
Hi😊 This is a great question. How often and how long I work on an exercise depends on the individual horse . Some horses do better working on a new movement every other day. Others do best if I introduce the new movement briefly each time. Some of the things that I always keep in mind when practicing new things is the horses response. I try to make sure I don’t drill the movement and keep it as positive as possible. 🐴
I just started lessons a few weeks ago. I’ve been told to steer with the reins. How do you use your legs/body? I’ve watching through your videos but still confused.
Great question 😊 It depends on the horse, and what we are working on. I generally do training sessions for around 30 to 45 minutes. It might be a little longer or shorter depending on how the session goes. The most important thing to me is that I end on a good note.
This is quite a random thing for a horse to do but my if anyone can answer it that would be great! So my horse really rushes through this exercise is there any way of collecting and balancing him while still keeping him relaxed? Any answers will help but keep in mind he’s quite a young ottb so reacts weirdly to stuff!
I wish you success when practicing this :) Feel free to leave any questions or future video ideas

What type of bridle are you using? I’ve been looking into bit less options, thanks for the info.
Could you show how to do on the ground?
Can I ask, do you move your weight off the inside seatbone?

How long should each training session last.. Thanks 🏇

@@JSHorsemanship I think I should have asked...how long for individual tasks of the training - yielding rear quarters..ect. Thank you 🏇

Is your leg slightly behind the girt?
Yes 👍 I put my leg slightly behind the girth to ask my horses hip to move away.
