I love that you uploaded the original pilot I also had a great idea for a video what if you did a video on the love lives of the charmed one's and also you could compare the writing of the characters between brad and Constance cause I feel like brads charmed one's were more promiscuous as opposed to constance's like have you ever noticed how Phoebe in the later seasons slept with two of her bosses I mean I highly doubt constance's Phoebe would have done that and did brad really have to make them have so many boyfriends I feel like they had at least 3-4 a season like in the later seasons it seems like the storyline revolved around them having boyfriends

I did a review of the original pilot back when I got the set, but I was afraid to upload the episode itself in case it was a copyright issue.. but I've seen a lot of comments about how hard it is to find online (especially in decent quality) so I decided to give it a try. I had to split it into three parts for TH-cam to okay it, but thankfully they did so I could share it with everyone!
I’ve never seen the original pilot looking so good so thanks for the upload. It is a more straight-faced take on the series. More like Practical Magic. Putting what happened later on to the side, I do think Milano’s lighter take on Phoebe makes for a more compelling contrast between her and Doherty’s Prue. Here I have to imagine why Phoebe could trigger Prue so much. With Milano I see it right away.

Show would have been canceled in 12 episodes. Say what you want about Milano but she was the absolute right person for the role and gave the show more star power and better sex appeal
I think that Lori Rom’s version of Phoebe is so different from Alyssa’s. Lori’s version is more nice and down to earth. Alyssa’s version is more rebellious and stubborn . I think if Lori had stayed the show would have been very different.

Though on screen Alyssa did a fine job, off screen everything I've read states her not getting along with any of her Co stars. Not even rose that came later and knew nothing of the drama. Alyssa said one thing but cast and crew say another. I obviously wasn't there on set but so far it sounds like without Alyssa the show might of been better with prue piper and Paige. Paige would keep all her powers weve seen with additional visions of time. Im mean the "prue power" she had I've seen Leo do like summoning mirrors to underworld anyway

Agreed! That's one of the reasons I can't stand Age of Adaline, even though I like the premise. The two leads have absolutely no chemistry whatsoever, and it drags the entire movie down.
I never knew this existed until now. I know we all know what we know now about what happened behind the scenes but I still think Alyssa was a good Phoebe even though I would not have minded if this actress stayed maybe Shannen would have been able to stay too. Things definitely would have been different. But the past is the past and we can’t change it now.
I totally understand! I like Lori as Phoebe, but Alyssa really brought the character to life and I feel like the sibling rivalry stood out more once the role was recast.
I doubt the show would have lasted long if Lori had stayed, though. She seems really nice, but Charmed was a supernatural drama and (imo) the dynamic with Lori just didn't really fit the drama aspect as well as the dynamic with Alyssa.

I know that the og Phoebe actress left bc of religious reasons, but still curious on Andy 🤔. Never knew they changed the kitchen too. There's no island. In my fan-opinion when they used the truth spell. Phoebe would get her to ask if she (Phoebe) slept with Roger, and the anwser is this. "No. He put the moves on me and I rejected him. I may be a boyfriend thief. But I am not a fiance or husband theif. I've got better morals than that. Especially when it comes to my sisters. So he made up this lie just to get back at me". That will make that the hatchet is not only buried, but flowers r placed (eternal peace).
I'm not sure! The wiki suggests that he left of his own accord, but there are only rumors as to why.. And right? So weird seeing a different setup, especially in the kitchen! But that was because the original pilot was filmed in the real-life Charmed manor, Innes House, whereas the rest of the series was filmed on a soundstage. And I never thought about that, but I agree! It would have been awesome to see the Roger thing come full circle, and for Prue to finally know for sure she can trust Phoebe!
They didn’t change the kitchen. The original pilot was filmed in the original house, the real house. The house we see in charmed for 8 seasons is a set on paramount studio, the module for the manor was used to replicate the house but the set is much much better than the original house, they made the main interior bigger for both lighting and set direction.
Agreed! Alyssa's delivery of the lines way better. When Lori speaks the lines sounds rushed but with Alyssa you feel the emotion behind every word no matter how small.
I’ll admit that Alyssa does stand out compared to this actress but they probably wouldn’t have had the situation that they had if they had kept this actress.

Everyone is assuming the show would have been cancelled based on a 14 minute clip from an unaired pilot. I can’t think of one pilot that is absolutely amazing in the delivery, given it’s a pilot and it takes time to build the chemistry between actors. I do think the series would have been completely different, Prue probably wouldn’t have been killed off, but that means also Paige wouldn’t have been introduced.
I had to split it into three parts, but it's actually the whole episode, not just a 14 minute clip. And fair point about building chemistry, but I do think Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and Desperate Housewives all had pretty solid pilots! I would add Game of Thrones and Buffy, but I know the versions that aired were also rewritten/reshot like the Charmed pilot was.

Lol right. I don’t think this show would’ve been picked up after the 11th episode. Shannen Alyssa and Holly has amazing chemistry and felt like real sisters, beyond whatever stupidness went on behind the scenes is unimportant.
Now people are wondering, if this would have been the better option, knowing what we know today! Hindsight is always 20/20 (cheap argument, I know) Alyssa being HELL to work with and all of the ladies not even able to co-exist with her, without her silently trying to sabotage and threaten litigation! Up to this day, she never apologized or even recognized that she messed up the magic formula with her off screen shenanigans!
@@janjan55555 I think it's unfair to blame Alyssa for ALL of the problems behind the scenes, given that everyone has been problematic at points and even Holly herself said there were no angels or demons on set, and was denying Alyssa was the problem all the way up until a couple years ago. In fact, they were close friends. And Brad Kern was definitely part of the problem as well, which is why he got rid of anyone he felt threatened by.. especially women.
Shannen herself said that Alyssa brought something to the character of Phoebe that Lori never could have. I believe the right decision was made to replace her.

I like the original Phoebe better. She was more mature, and could handle Prue's character. Holly's acting improved with the second pilot though. However, I don't care for the first Andy. He's too young for the part of "inspector"...
i always feel bad for actors playing main characters in the pilot and not staying once the show is confirmed; that said, it's hard to imagine charmed without Alyssa Milano (or even the actor that played Insp. trudau)
Right? I think Alyssa made a great Phoebe, but I hate that Lori was pretty much forced out of the role by her church. Most actors and actresses dream of getting a lead role on a show that actually gets picked up, and Lori finally managed to do that just to get manipulated out of it.. it's so sad.
Lori isn't a bad actress, just badly cast. She gives "oldest" sister vibes and basically Prue 2.0. I think we needed Milano's rebellious character to show why she clashes with the sisters and her character has allowed the show to advance so much. Her Phoebe has room for growth where as Lori's Phoebe seemed established. You had Prue the fixer, Piper the "mom" who was reliable and tried to keep the peace, and Lori played Phoebe as a mixture of the two and it just doesn't work. I could honestly see her being cast as a young version of their mom (before we got her deeper back story.) Lori's straight laced Phoebe wouldn't have been able to progress the story imo. We already saw how that type of character played out with Piper.

Lori Rom seems beautiful and talented. I don’t think the show would have made it more than a season without the more perky/rebellious version of Phoebe portrayed by Milano. Plus, Milano had a huge fan base across genders and was very well known whereas I was like Lori Who? I’ve always been a little sad at Doherty’s exit from the show, though.
The hate felt more authentic with Alissa in the mix. And this original phoebe is too tall and had too much presence and character (too much of a good thing). She made Prue feel only on the defensive and lashing out, and not in the role of the judgemental big sister.

I think Alyssa Milano gave the character a daring touch, and her relationship with Cole boosted the show's audience. With this actress, the series would have been much more boring; it would have lasted two seasons tops, and that's it. The girl is very dull.

I grew up around mean girls who knew very well how to pick a target and turn them into the 'bad guy,' even when they're actually the innocent party, and I never understood why anyone believed a word they said. Especially if they had experienced the same treatment themselves.. it's like, if they'll lie ABOUT you, of course they'll lie TO you, you know? That's why I think it's really important to try and hear all sides of a situation before forming an opinion, and why it's so frustrating to see that the majority of people take Shannen, Holly, and Rose's stories as gospel (even if those stories contradict statements they've made in the past) but everything Alyssa says MUST be a lie. It doesn't make sense to me, especially when Alyssa's story has actually been the most consistent.

It was the mediator that told Aaron spelling production that Shannen was found to have hostile behavior interfering with the work on set! Haha
What stands out to me immediately about Lori Rom is that she is so much taller than the other two. If I had just seen this with no exposure to the show proper, I would be distracted wondering why they cast the youngest sister with the tallest actress

I never liked the character of Prue. She was very judgmental. It was her way or no way, she only ever grudgingly gave in if it wasn't her idea. She always acted like she was better than the other two siblings. This version makes her seem even more harsh.

I'm not sure why some people believe that everything Shannen, Holly, and Rose say is absolute truth (even when it contradicts their own statements) and everything Alyssa says is a lie, but can we please stop trying to blame Alyssa for EVERY little thing that went wrong on the show? She had absolutely nothing to do with Lori leaving Charmed; she didn't even know about the project until Aaron called her after Lori quit (which according to Shannen and Holly was because her church made her) and asked if she would be willing to take on the role.
It's interesting Holly said that in the other interview why the actress Lori Rom left the pilot is because they did not like her so was it because they did not like her oars because she wasn't good enough as an actress but it is possible is because of her church when someone has a religious faith well it avoids them to do certain things against their religion 14:25
Neither Holly nor Shannen have ever said they (or the network) did not like Lori. What they said was that her church forced her to leave the role and they didn't find out she quit until they were doing a TV Guide photoshoot that they were all supposed to do together. In fact, Shannen and Holly went out of their way to say that they respected Lori's decision, even if they would have personally made a different choice. I'm sorry, but I think you should double check before you make statements like that, given there's already enough drama among the cast without people spreading false information.

Yeah.. I kind of get it, though. Holly and Shannen said Lori was a theater actress before this, so I imagine this was her first opportunity to play a lead role on a tv show, so she probably overcompensated a bit.

I know we all know what we know now about what happened behind the scenes but I still think Alyssa was a good Phoebe even though I would not have minded if this actress stayed maybe Shannen would have been able to stay too. Things definitely would have been different. But the past is the past and we can’t change it now.
I totally understand! I like Lori as Phoebe, but Alyssa really brought the character to life and I feel like the sibling rivalry stood out more once the role was recast.

In my fan-opinion when they used the truth spell. Phoebe would get her to ask if she (Phoebe) slept with Roger, and the anwser is this. "No. He put the moves on me and I rejected him. I may be a boyfriend thief. But I am not a fiance or husband theif. I've got better morals than that. Especially when it comes to my sisters. So he made up this lie just to get back at me". That will make that the hatchet is not only buried, but flowers r placed (eternal peace).
I'm not sure! The wiki suggests that he left of his own accord, but there are only rumors as to why..
And right? So weird seeing a different setup, especially in the kitchen! But that was because the original pilot was filmed in the real-life Charmed manor, Innes House, whereas the rest of the series was filmed on a soundstage.
And I never thought about that, but I agree! It would have been awesome to see the Roger thing come full circle, and for Prue to finally know for sure she can trust Phoebe!
They didn’t change the kitchen. The original pilot was filmed in the original house, the real house. The house we see in charmed for 8 seasons is a set on paramount studio, the module for the manor was used to replicate the house but the set is much much better than the original house, they made the main interior bigger for both lighting and set direction.

Everyone is assuming the show would have been cancelled based on a 14 minute clip from an unaired pilot. I can’t think of one pilot that is absolutely amazing in the delivery, given it’s a pilot and it takes time to build the chemistry between actors.
I do think the series would have been completely different, Prue probably wouldn’t have been killed off, but that means also Paige wouldn’t have been introduced.
I had to split it into three parts, but it's actually the whole episode, not just a 14 minute clip. And fair point about building chemistry, but I do think Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and Desperate Housewives all had pretty solid pilots! I would add Game of Thrones and Buffy, but I know the versions that aired were also rewritten/reshot like the Charmed pilot was.

Now people are wondering, if this would have been the better option, knowing what we know today! Hindsight is always 20/20 (cheap argument, I know) Alyssa being HELL to work with and all of the ladies not even able to co-exist with her, without her silently trying to sabotage and threaten litigation! Up to this day, she never apologized or even recognized that she messed up the magic formula with her off screen shenanigans!
@@janjan55555 I think it's unfair to blame Alyssa for ALL of the problems behind the scenes, given that everyone has been problematic at points and even Holly herself said there were no angels or demons on set, and was denying Alyssa was the problem all the way up until a couple years ago. In fact, they were close friends. And Brad Kern was definitely part of the problem as well, which is why he got rid of anyone he felt threatened by.. especially women.
Shannen herself said that Alyssa brought something to the character of Phoebe that Lori never could have. I believe the right decision was made to replace her.

Right? I think Alyssa made a great Phoebe, but I hate that Lori was pretty much forced out of the role by her church. Most actors and actresses dream of getting a lead role on a show that actually gets picked up, and Lori finally managed to do that just to get manipulated out of it.. it's so sad.
Lori isn't a bad actress, just badly cast. She gives "oldest" sister vibes and basically Prue 2.0. I think we needed Milano's rebellious character to show why she clashes with the sisters and her character has allowed the show to advance so much. Her Phoebe has room for growth where as Lori's Phoebe seemed established. You had Prue the fixer, Piper the "mom" who was reliable and tried to keep the peace, and Lori played Phoebe as a mixture of the two and it just doesn't work. I could honestly see her being cast as a young version of their mom (before we got her deeper back story.) Lori's straight laced Phoebe wouldn't have been able to progress the story imo. We already saw how that type of character played out with Piper.

Lori Rom seems beautiful and talented. I don’t think the show would have made it more than a season without the more perky/rebellious version of Phoebe portrayed by Milano. Plus, Milano had a huge fan base across genders and was very well known whereas I was like Lori Who?

I think Alyssa Milano gave the character a daring touch, and her relationship with Cole boosted the show's audience. With this actress, the series would have been much more boring; it would have lasted two seasons tops, and that's it. The girl is very dull.

That's why I think it's really important to try and hear all sides of a situation before forming an opinion, and why it's so frustrating to see that the majority of people take Shannen, Holly, and Rose's stories as gospel (even if those stories contradict statements they've made in the past) but everything Alyssa says MUST be a lie. It doesn't make sense to me, especially when Alyssa's story has actually been the most consistent.
@zanadazidit i hope Shannen regrets some of her behavior and documented behavior of being a bully and mean girl. Yelling on set, telling Alyssa to “put the donuts down fatty” and much more. Did you know Alyssa Milano actually told the studio to hire a mediator to document every interaction on set during season 3 ? It was the mediator that told Aaron spelling production that Shannen was found to have hostile behavior interfering with the work on set! Haha

Neither Holly nor Shannen have ever said they (or the network) did not like Lori. What they said was that her church forced her to leave the role and they didn't find out she quit until they were doing a TV Guide photoshoot that they were all supposed to do together. In fact, Shannen and Holly went out of their way to say that they respected Lori's decision, even if they would have personally made a different choice.

Maybe, but I still think Alyssa was a better fit for the role. The sibling rivalry just didn't feel authentic with Lori as Phoebe, imo.

@COSMICCFREQUENCY144 well Alyssa is the asshole that caused Shannon to get fired because she was jealous. And that is you opinion. I think Holly and Shannon would have been able to carry the show. I stopped watching after Shannon left because the nonsense they came up with to bring in a new third made no sense. In reality that means their were always 4 and the power of 3 was bullshit. It also screwed with the chronological believability because the future episodes that came out with Prue still being alive. That kind of stuff annoys that crap out of me. They did it in star wars too and it is a huge turn off.
