Should Arch Manning Be QB1 at Texas?, Recapping Saturday's SEC Spring Games, Ole Miss Adds a RB

  • We're recapping the five SEC Spring Games from this past weekend, and we start with the Texas Longhorns as Arch Manning shined for Texas, throwing for 355 yards and 3 TDs, while Quinn Ewers threw a pick-6 in limited action. Sark is firm on Ewers being QB1, but shouldn't he at least deem an 'open competition'? Is Texas making a mistake not letting Arch battle for the starting job? We also recap Oklahoma's Spring Game as Jackson Arnold is the guy at QB and has a nice deep threat weapon in WR Deion Burks transferring in from Purdue. But can Brent Venables' defense improve this season?
    Also, we recap Texas A&M's Spring Game as Mike Elko has a stud defensive weapon in former Purdue edge Nic Scourton. Keep an eye on Aggies #11 as he is ready to sack QBs in the SEC. Meanwhile WR Noah Thomas emerges as a go-to target for Conner Weigman. At South Carolina, fans got to see new starting QB LaNorris Sellers battle it out with Robby Ashford. And true freshman Dylan Stewart is another defensive piece ready to rack up sacks. At Mississippi State, expectations are low for Jeff Lebby in Year 1 in Starkville, but he's got weapons in QB Blake Shapen and WRs Mario Craver, Kevin Coleman & Kelly Akharaiyi.
    In other SEC news, Ole Miss adds a starting caliber RB to the mix in Jacory Croskey-Merritt from New Mexico, as he ran for 1,190 yards and 17 TDs last season for the Lobos. Meanwhile, Auburn loses WR Jay Fair to the portal and LSU gymnastics with the National Championship.

    Arch Manning’s release looked a little funky to me. Almost like he had a little hitch in it or something but he was accurate so maybe it’s nothing.

      I see the same thing. It’s almost like he’s turning his hand and pushing it out like a shot put on certain throws. Maybe it’s something with the Manning anatomy. The end results are solid either way though.

      @@BP12ification yeah I don’t think it’s a big deal. I did play with a QB that had a funky release it made it harder to track the ball on short routes sometimes that’s about it.

    You never want your freshman QB for the future to needlessly come into the SEC and face these defenses. Would be a mistake. Beck of UGA threw two picks in his Spring game so we are going to go with Arch of Quinn? LOL no. Tx has a bad passing defense and I think what your seeing is a little fool's gold on the part of Arch vs a defensive secondary this bad. Give him a year as the QB2 and put him in actual games. You can't go from nothing to starting, got to have that adjustment period.

    • @scottpolasek3770
      @scottpolasek3770 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How can you say a bad passing defense when you can't blitz or touch the QB? Everybody but you I guess knows that pressure on a QB helps the secondary!

    • @gwhite7136
      @gwhite7136 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@scottpolasek3770 Yeah, that's my point. If they were able to tackle and the 1st string stayed in all game, would he have 330 yards? Granted this Texas secondary was 116th! For the year last year. So, can we not talk about starting him over Quinn? That would be dumb as there is always an adjustment period. Texas had all last year to, "help the secondary".. lol. Would you like to see their stats? So pressure my azz, when your secondary is bad, it's bad and no Spring game is a replacement for real live game starts, let alone a decision to replace QB1. Give him some more game time to see how he does. Didn't do well last year in a real game. I'm sure he's come a long way since than but this is the SEC, its the best at getting after QB's. Even Peyton had to adjust and it didn't happen in the first game. Took some times..

    • @gwhite7136
      @gwhite7136 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@scottpolasek3770 My point is, until he shows he can pass the ball effectively against even an average secondary, it's fool's gold. I think he eventually will be able to pass well but what he saw Saturday, is poor by comparison to what he will see against other SEC secondary D's.

  • @pablozee6359
    @pablozee6359 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    No, he should not be QB1. He had a good day at practice against a defense not allowed to touch him. Still, the footwork, pocket maturity, reads, and ball delivery were not insignificant - that happened. It’s promising, but not worthy of a bunch of hyperbole.

    • @xavierc5340

      You have some good points, not sure if you are a Texas fan or not but Ewers didn't look great in these same conditions since being here. The kid(Ewers) has talent but he's the most inconsistent, highly touted player since Garrett Gilbert and he was rated higher than him. I'm not saying hand the keys to Arch yet but there's not much that Ewers has done to say he should have the job without question.

    No Quinn ewers earned his spot. You give him the starting job. Arch Manning will get the job next year or if Quinn gets hurt this year why put Arch Manning out there risk him getting hurt and he's only a sophomore a second year player. That's another thing. No, Arch Manning should not be QB1 right now, for this reason. The Texas secondary, was horrid last seaason. For the season, they ranked not 80th, not 100th, but 116th! I can't recall a team with a secondary this bad ever being in the playoffs. So who is Arch really throwing against in that Texas secondary? We are all going to shine against a secondary this atrocious. It didn't look any better in this Spring game. The middle was never covered and the perimeter was poorly covered. There is a world of difference between Iowa's secondary(ranked 5th nationally) than the Texas secondary. If this were a full game, with one QB at the helm? It would be a lot worse than 355 yards. I get it, starters didn't play the whole game but a poor showing for the secondary, carrying over from last season. It's the only reason WA beat them.
