It's a pity that hounds do not hunt for foxes. The population of foxes has grown and most of them can be seen in urban surrounding rather than the countryside. It's a bit like seagulls overpopulated with the pests

Foxes in rural areas are estimated to benefit local communities to the tune of £7 million per year by controlling the numbers of Rats & Rabbits that can decimate food crops & cause massive financial damage to farmers. When you say "it's a pity that hounds do not hunt Foxes", you couldn't be further from the truth - that's exactly what they ARE doing because the hunt scum are sticking two fingers up to the law & continue to hunt Foxes with impunity. A comprehensive survey conducted by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), concluded that of all the registered hunts in England, less than 1% have switched to legal trail hunting since the introduction of the 2004 Hunting Act that banned the hunting of wild mammals with Dogs. They are nothing more than organised, criminal gangs riding roughshod through the countryside & to hell with anyone or anything that gets in their way.

Always have mixed feelings about Fox Hunting my Brother and I always agreed to disagree he was very pro hunting and I was on the edge, on one side Mr Fox needs to be controlled in numbers but the other side the thought of any creature being chased by a pack of hounds and red coated humans on horse back made me uncertain, my brother was a very horse oriented person and in the past owned two beautiful horses one was a Grey the other a Chesnutt very intelligent creatures, the Chesnutt always knew when she had a nervous novice on her back me, she never played up she was a lovely girl was Tessa.
This isn't fox hunting. It's trail hunting whereby the hounds follow a prelaid scent. Foxes are still controlled by snaring and shooting these days. I always thought hunting them with hounds was more sporting and gave the fox a chance as most foxes can out run a pack of hounds but not many can outrun a bullet.

Good to see that the Hunt still meets up there, Seavington Hunt still meet in Crewkerne as far as I know. Like you I grew up with the fox hunting and the only thing I didn't agree with was digging out the fox if it went to ground, not sure what the protestors were trying to achieve considering that hunting is banned in the UK now, why can't they just leave rural communities to enjoy their traditions?
I love horses but unfortunately not when used for this barbaric pastime. The hunters say they only drag hunt which is totally questionable as we all know that foxes get killed by these morons on horseback and they deny it honestly your honor. If I had my own way all hunting with dogs would be banned period. But the thing that worries me is that when children as young as ten and under are being brainwashed by their parent's bloodlust and cruel attitudes then all hope is lost. I am all for countryside traditions and the way of life but when so-called traditional activities that go against the welfare of wild animals then myself and many others will object very strongly and let's face it animals can't shout and do not have a voice but I have a very loud voice and do not give a fragg who I annoy or upset when it is about the welfare of all animals. Yes, I am a meat eater chicken is my fave, and the odd steak once in a blue moon is nice too. This isn't fox hunting. It is trail hunting following a prelaid scent. No animals are hunted on a trail hunt.
