- David F. Tornow, 57 of rural Washington, passed from this life unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Lower Deer Creek Church. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in rural Richmond. The family will greet friends from 3 - 7 PM, Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Lower Deer Creek Church. A memorial fund has been established for the Student Build Project at the City of Kalona. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
David Frederick Tornow was born July 18, 1967, in Monroe, WI, the son of Herbert Frederick and Yvonne Irene (McKeown) Tornow. He graduated from Black Hawk High School in South Wayne, WI, and attended Highland Community College where he received an associate’s degree in computer science. On August 14, 1993, he was united in marriage to Sherry Conrad in Sigourney. They lived on the family farm while Dave farmed with his dad before moving to Iowa in 1997. He became a Master Electrician and worked at Don Marie Electric and Advanced Electrical Services, Inc. before becoming an inspector for Johnson County. For the past three years he worked for the City of Kalona in many capacities, including the following: building inspector, facility manager, assisting in the student-built housing projects and other special projects. Dave was also well known for his DJ business, Herb the III, owning and operating that endeavor since 1992. You could find him behind his booth and on the dance floor when DJing. He attended Lower Deer Creek Church, was a member of the Mid-Prairie Athletic Boosters and was a strong supporter of the community and Mid-Prairie school district. Dave was responsible for all the signs that were placed in front of the high school for teams that were participating in state contests. He enjoyed woodworking, from his own designs. Dave was a follower of Christ, loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and never met a stranger. He was a Wisconsin Badgers fan and coached multiple youth sports. He was a professional goofball and will forever be 27.
Survivors include his wife Sherry of rural Washington, IA; daughter Abby (Brent) Foster of Riverside, IA; son Brad Tornow of Washington, IA; parents Herb and Yvonne of South Wayne, WI; three siblings: Barb Tornow (Matt Welter) of Sigourney, IA, Jim Tornow of Sullivan, MO, LaJill (Jeff) Edge of Howards Grove, WI; father-in-law Mike Conrad of Sigourney, IA; three sisters-in-law: Tammy(Jim) Hoover of Durant, IA, Debbie(John) Knowler of Sigourney, IA, Sue(Craig) Andrew of Waukee, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding David in death was his son Coby on May 27, 2005, and his mother-in-law Janice Conrad.
