    We’ve befriended some Afghan families who have recently been resettled in our city. We are helping them navigate life here- teaching English, taking them to the store-eating with them and sharing ours lives with them. They are wonderful people full of gratitude yet suffering so much sadness and anxiety from what they recently went through trying to get out. One young woman was hit on the head very badly by the Taliban and suffers from bad headaches a lot and has PTSD. They were separated from the parents at the airport and their parents didn’t make it out. Pray for these people and be a good neighbor to them when you see them.

  • @StitchGV
    @StitchGV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I see people commenting “why not help our own homeless like that?” The truth is a large percentage of our homeless need more than just housing; they also need mental health and drug rehabilitation. And unlike these people, who are ready to learn our culture and put themselves to work as fast as possible, many homeless are in that situation because they gave up. Comparatively, the care for them would be very long-term with no end in sight to them needing government support, and though the government will never admit it, that’s why they don’t help them on this scale. For the same reason health insurance companies used to deny people with preexisting conditions, they don’t want people who will be a constant drain on their resources. They want people with a fire under their ass to make it on their own and prove themselves as respectable citizens of this country, and only need a boost.

      @@DillyDabblez Both are still true. My saying there’s a reason the homeless aren’t helped on this scale is not to say the homeless don’t need help. They DO need shelter, they DO need mental health and rehab, and the ones who simply ran out of luck and have no other options DO need a boost. In the richest country in the world, there should be no homeless. The mentally ill and depressed belong in hospitals where they can do no harm, suffer no harm, and learn how to rejoin society if possible. The unlucky belong in programs that help them get back on their feet, and maybe even teach them how to better themselves and expand their skill sets so this never happens to them again. But the government sees that as betting on a losing horse.
