He has sold modest amounts of records in America so that does not mean he has no fans over there! I used to be in the punk scene and if a British punk band sold as many records in America he had then they would think they had done quite well. People forget that outside of the mainstream pop music scene in the alternative music scene moderate record sales and moderate concert attendances are not concert a failure.

@@angusmeigh5141 correct, particularly in America as it's a HUGE market and very diverse so it's not easy as it looks, quite a few big bands and artists haven't 'made' it there so to speak, also like he said I'm not sure he was trying that hard at the time as he had a lot of issues and I think he quite enjoyed the anonymity there so much so he moved there....

I can’t believe that songs like ‘Angels’ and ‘Feel’ would not be huge hits in America.

Well at the time when in the early 2000s he was trying to come into the US, the focus had shifted from singer-songwriter & boyband pop music to hip hop, r&b, rock influenced rap. LimpBizkit, Linkin Park, Eminem, 50Cent were dominating the radio. RW doesn't fit in with them.

I'm an American and have had the pleasure of seeing Robbie Williams perform in England and Scotland. When you see him in Europe,, though, it's in a stadium. It was a total thrill to have him perform in Las Vegas last year. We've been waiting a looooong time for him to perform again on American soil. And, the Encore Theatre has only 1,400 seats. He's very close up and personal. Plus, what a thrill it was to have a meet & greet back stage. He's the BEST entertainer in the world! I'm telling you! Unfortunately, his concerts in Vegas were canceled this year due to Covid19. Hope to see him next year back at the Wynn. If he's there, don't walk, RUN to buy tickets.....he sells out fast!

I think cannot stress enough... that Robbie Williams is by far the biggest selling overall recording artist in Europe of the past 30 years. He has sold almost 50 million albums in the continent since 1997. He is still pushing for 750k-1 million per album release in this day and age.

Whatever America knows about him, Robbie has been the best icon pop singer of the last decade !

I'm a 12-year-old from Florida, and I recently fell in love with his music!
I believe that the rest of the country doesn't see what they missed unfortunately.
Robbie did sort of crack the country in the 90's with "Millennium" and in the 2000's with "Rock DJ" and "Feel" but they didn't do as well as I would've thought.
I actually found songs that made me nostalgic because my dad used to play his stuff in the car all the time (he's from New England)!
Robbie Williams has left something with my family that will hopefully stay for a while!

It was all a big collision of issues.
Robbie realised that he would have to go to every radio station in every state in the country and hawk his goods. He just realised he was too lazy to do so.
The Chris Heath book 'Feel' is a phenomenal account of this time. It may be the greatest first-hand account of pop stardom ever published.

I'm 53 years old. I'm super into music and have lived over in the Middle East, visited England twice, Europe 5 times and could sing "Sommertider Hey Hey" for you from the Swedish band Gyllene Tider, which I fell in love with summer before last. I honestly had never heard of this guy until I saw a video tonight where he was a star who didn't get recognized in public while walking through the park in a pink outfit and was a little upset by it and I'm like "who is this dude?"
Anyhow, I listened to Angels and it's pretty decent but not Earthmoving for me. Seems like a nice guy. Honestly, don't feel like we missed that much here in the USA.

    • @notforone
      @notforone 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

Imo his greatest song isn't Angels - that's the overplayed crowd favorite. I feel his best/most beautiful song is Feel.
And I was an immigrant growing up in Kuwait, born in Qatar, travelled quite a few places. I know of him, he was pretty hot in the early 2000s. Discovered him on MTV and the radio.
I think the US music scene was already so oversaturated at that point in time which is why he couldnt break through. The early 2000s were an amazing time in the US music scene, Eminem was dominating it.

I grew up with Robbie Williams and Take That in the 90s, haven't been a fan though, but I like his music today and his interviews are always fun. I remember they had a suicide hotline in Europe when Take That split up in the 90s and all the teens freaked out. That blonde is a terrible host. He's literally talking about his 4 children, his beloved family, that he had a hard time getting to in life considering his past. Doesn't she get the hint that she should stop flirting with their guest when the male host is reverting back to the family subject? Awkward.

More Americans went to his show than not. He had a chat group and said guess who bought the most tickets? I said America? He said 100%true. He was estatic. I'm American and he's been my favorite artist since 1999. I have every album, DVD concerts, books ..You name it, so to say Americans don't know him isn't true. He was in America and was touring his album, was on Jay Leno a few times, letterman etc. He decided not to become famous after realizing he was not in a good way mentally so instead decided to live in Los Angeles where no one knew him and he could breathe and not be scared of being bombarded with fans.

American Born in Texas here. He is FINE but not great his music is too on the nose and sounds pretty shallow lyrics just kinda sound like a poor attempt to be cool. Honestly he is pretty milk toast which is probably why most people don't care for him. Also he tried to pop out in the USA during the most competitive time to be an artist of any kind Michael Jackson was still at his peak.
Honestly as a writer it seems like most of his music is too on the nose and really lacks any subtlety that you can get out of other songwriters or even interesting messages that you get out of music here. Even though pop isn't my go to I do dabble in it and man he is just boring Honestly compared to at the time stuff he is boring IMO.
