Oh yeah. That shook me. It actually hit me really fucking hard When Odysseus's mom started singing, I damn near started crying. When a song can do THAT is when Jorge and the rest of the Epic cast deserves a grammy.
This might be my favorite Underworld Animatic because it nails the vocal transition from "Bye mom." To "ALLL I HEAR ARE SCREAAAMS!" perfectly capturing Odysseus bellowing his sorrow and frustration out into the River Styx
I was holding my tears when I saw polites and then when his mom showed up I just let it all out, this part of the musical series literally shattered me into million pieces
... anyone else struck by just how amazing chill Hades is with allowing the crew to just come on into the underworld and then leave with somewhat little hassle?
Excellent creative choice having the dead crew take the form of the Cyclopes. Really locks in how Odyessus royally screwed them over, now condemed to be apart of the River Styx eternally, perpeutal drowning.
9 minutes and you’re already one of the top results when searching the underworld animatics hope this blows up soon it looks really good and envisions the song nicely
I really appreciate the way you animated "I took too long." It's a realization. It's an admission. It's suddenly being aware that you weren't there and life ran its course, and there's no making it up anymore because. She's gone. And she died thinking of you, while your mind was hundreds of miles away in the war you were fighting in. You never think it can happen, never question your loved one's mortality until something happens to make you do so. Odysseus is hit hard and it shows. Thank you.
To add to the sadness of all this if y’all didn’t know, during Homer’s Odyssey, when the wind bag is opened and the boat goes shooting away from Ithaca the people on the island can see that, Odysseus’s mom sees that happen and thinks she just saw her son die so she walks into the ocean and drowns herself so he isn’t alone in the underworld, only when she arrives he isn’t there (obviously since he’s not dead) so she doesn’t know what happened until 2 years later when this takes place and he goes to the underworld
Your rendition of the spirits just being like memories (that's the vibe I get at least) is SO heartbreaking because it's not even like it's them there talking to ody it's just him watching as those memories float by. Also the part where ody's mom is just looking at the portrait of him is so heartbreaking I cannot. Edit: I also just want to say this is the first Underworld animatic that gave me chills and almost made me full on cry 😭
Drawing the souls like floating memories rather than being there in person makes the whole thing even more emotional for me. Odysseus is forced to remember his friend and his mother, while they didn't even notice Oysseus. It's like they dream peacefully while Odyseus is reminded that he will never be able to say goodbye to them again. -In every other version it felt like he had at least one last chance to say goodbye in the underworld, which made their death less meaningful to me
You absolutely NAILED 3:45 ! I was kinda worried it'd be anti-climactic, since its hard to make a such a monumental climax to the song, but the expression and everything was perfect. Great animatic!
I really love how you showed that Odysseus and his men have aged because of how long they've been out at sea!! No one really shows that in their animations, i mean it took him like 20 years to get back home and he still looks young? Unrealistic lol but you did an amazing job!!!!
This animatic was basically how I imagined this song already. Esspecially with thr part with his mom, you did an amazing job! Keep up the amazing work!
Dude... I literally cried when polities came up and then when his mom came... omg that was beautiful you did such an amazing job that was wonderful to watch the best one ive seen yet 🥺🥲
are you kidding me??? the transitions!! the baby!! whaaat??? ok excuse me while I leave it on loop for a couple of hours... you owe us some drawings of happy ody after this btw
This made me cry just as much as I did when I listened to the song for the first time, the best animatic I've seen for this song!!! So many details that bring everything together, your skills are incredible!
Having never cried at a song, movie, or book before, i was thoroughly surprised when i did for the first time, its such a good song! And also so sad at the same time, i couldnt REALLY watch the animation as i was doing some chores while listening, but they really helped elevate it still, which says a lot
God, the whole bit with his mom makes me cry. Forgive me for venting, but I lost my granny last August, and this scene just hits so close to home for me. It’s just so sad yet so beautifully done. Thank you
These transitions and atmosphere are just so on point. Also the fact that while the death of so many of his men have been a consistent torment on his mind, its his own mother that clearly breaks him down. In those few moments he was a man, he was a son missing his mom.
This animatic broke my heart and put the pieces in a woodchipper and then got those pieces and doused them in oil and then cooked them until they were charred pieces of ash and then scattered them over an ocean of my tears
OMG I'M ONLY NOW REALIZING THAT ANTICLEA'S PIANO IS PLAYING ODYSSEUS'S LEITMOTIF!! SHE'S PLAYING HIS SON'S LEITMOTIF BECAUSE SHE WAS WAIIIIITING FOR HIM 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Man... The way it just gets more personal and brutal for Ody. It starts with the 558 men he failed. Then the infant from Troy. Then his best friend. Then ending with his mom is just vicious work by Jorge
one of my most favorite animatics for this saga, you did soooo well i always tear up during the scene with his mother . great job showinng the emotions and the souls of the crew
I need you to know this is my favorite Underworld animatic. The way you show him holding the infant. The joy at hearing Polites. The absolute heartbreak & him collapsing when he realizes his mom is gone. You’re brilliant
Man, you guys are crazy talented. Every part of this version of the story is riveting and heartbreaking. It's just so much better than any other version.
Dude this is by far the most emotional song in act 1 bro. Odysseus sees Polites and he is actually glad to see him. When he sees Antecleas he realizes that he was gone for so long that his mother killed herself out of grief and how she thought Odysseus was dead. No joke. This is by far the most tearjerking song of all time. I have a feeling that if there was a way for you to see your loved ones for one final time long after they've passed, it would be a lot more heart-wrenching. Homer knew what he was doing when he wrote the Odyssey. Jay knew what he was doing when he wrote this song. and Jay knows what he's doing when he's writing Epic. He knows how to make songs happy, sad, aggressive, and of mix of the three.
Oh my god I love how you pulled this off! This is exactly what I imagined happening in my head when this scene played out and it's beautiful! All the transitions are amazing! Chef's kiss
3:10 put me into tears. I left home seven years ago and promised I would come and see her again, one last time... but I took too long and didn't get to say my final goodbye.

It hits hard. Not only he lost so many men. Even if he comes back now, everything is changed
As of writing this, I'm at work, I almost cried in front of everyone.
I legit broke down
I always think of me dad…nahh…it always gets me…
And you think of how Agamemnon had to threaten to kill Telemachus and Penelope to get Odysseus to leave in the first place.

Jorge when he saw people lose their mental state from the I took too long: 😈 just as I planned
I always think of my dad….gets me every time…
Hurts worse when you think of illiad and how hard Odysseus tried to not leave at all.
Odysseus looked so happy when he saw Polites 😭😭😭😭
And then so heartbroken when he vanished 😭💔
Penelope: Odysseus my love you have finally returned
Polities: uhm about that
He saw him at peace
IKR?? Odysseus turning with hopeful tears in his eyes 🥺🥺🥺
I was crying 😭

The "Mom?..." part always makes me teary eyed 😭
... anyone else struck by just how amazing chill Hades is with allowing the crew to just come on into the underworld and then leave with somewhat little hassle?
He tends to do it a lot in the mythology. It's great :D
Hades was just vibing with the music lmao
Hades: Yo, Cerberus, you hear that? It's a banger!
Cerberus: **woof x3**
Brother rivalry, perhaps?
If they were putting on a whole as musical performance with the type of acoustics you only get in the Underworld then I'd be chill too
Think he feel sorry for Odi seeing all those memories he's going to have to face all the men that died under him ,the baby polites and his mom omg😢😢😢
