    The last time I saw rubs that big it was from a buck my buddy shot later that year. Dressed weight 257 pounds. No teeth left ,was probably 12 13 year old bruiser. UP Michigan pre-wolf era.

      Wow! No wolves here, hopefully he made it. If I go back I’ll leave a trail camera there! Good luck this season

    Thanks for sharing Jeff, this is a cool twist on a tracking video. As a new tracker it is great to learn from others, thanks again!

    Man Jeff you are one tenacious tracker,it’s easy to see why you are so successful.

    I have had days just like this one. The first buck track you ran into was big . The part that stuck out was the way that big buck track pointed outward. He would been the one I would of took just because he would of been easy to track. Something like that sticks out makes it easier to stay on when you come into a barn yard off tracks. Either way what a hunt and learning curve for new trackers.

    Great video Jeff, this shows just how frustrating it can be sometimes trying to track a buck. There are literally hundreds of little decisions we make constantly, while choosing the track and while following as well. A lot of times, its only one or two different choices we make that would change the entire outcome of the day! If it worked every time, and we always caught up to the buck, success wouldn't seem as sweet when it all comes together....

    Thanks for sharing this video Jeff. It’s reassuring seeing someone as successful as you running into the same mistakes I’ve made. We often only get to see or hear about the major successes but it’s actually refreshing being reminded that tracking is still not easy even for the best of the best!

    Nothing worse than ending up back in your own footprints after hours of tracking. Great video.

    • @blairmahar1906
      @blairmahar1906 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, on second thought the only thing worse would be to discover that another hunter took up the track on the road.

      I’ve had both happen. It actually was the perfect primer for the next good snow day.

    It seemed that your flow… early in the day never really got sorted out. It’s always a crazy experience of feelings and rationalizations and the interplay in between the two. How was your flow , Throughout the day?

    • @jeff_doyle
      @jeff_doyle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah man, sometimes those decisions pan out but there was so few snow tracking days up to that point that I was kind of trying too hard to find that big one.

      @@jeff_doyle As I got older , I came to study myself more and more. I learned I had to take responsibility for the outcomes in everything I did. In doing so I learned about the law of attraction. The universe says yes to everything. This is a blessing and a warning! Be careful what you think!So I changed the sentence and the feelings that accompanied it to, “Big deer want me to shoot them”. And no longer” I want a big deer.”Because I would end up “wanting” and not “ having.” On the days that you accomplished your goal , notice your flow! The blessing of video shows you this. When our feelings are properly aligned, directed and most importantly correct with why, we all kick butt! It is the difference between going to the woods and being the woods. Lol of course by doing this we learn trust and the feelings become the vision we seek to have.

      That’s a great take, I also really like your philosophical approach to the outdoors. You got mojo man!

    Excellent video, Jeff. There are days like that, lol. I was laughing with my uncle about one my grandfather and I double teamed many years ago. I was about 18 ish years old then I guess. Short version is we’d seen a couple deer in the green stuff as we were leaving the rig in the morning but it was too dark to identify either of them so we kept going in to where we knew a big one had been living. We cut a buck with a doe track about a mile or two in and didn’t take them because the buck track looked smaller than we expected the big one should look. Kept going and cut “another” buck and doe about another couple miles or more in. Took that one... followed it all morning all up and down the nasty stuff right back to where it came down and crossed the stream having been exactly the one we didn’t take earlier... 🤦‍♂️. To make matters worse, they were going down the hollow mostly and ended up being the deer we’d actually seen right at the parking area first thing... of course now it’s dark again so there ya go! I was NOT amused that day, lol. Not even a little bit, lol.

    Dude ! Everyone makes mistakes. The fact that you are recognizing it and putting out there for everyone to see and learn from is huge!
    I live in the southeast mountains of SC and I have used some of the things I’ve learned from snow trackers to help me in the mountains down here , even without snow.

    You said something about the back hoof didn't step in the front track. Can you tell me what you meant and what that tells you? This is a very informative video, thank you for making it for us.

    • @jeff_doyle
      @jeff_doyle  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure, we often see deer tracks that appear in a left and right pattern where the rear hoof is falling directly on top of the front track, so they appear as one imprint. For especially long deer, their rear hooves do not fall perfectly on top of their front hoof print, like seen in this video. This is a potential indication that this would be a heavy buck with his added length.
