@@jerrymartin7019 well yes and no. In this case, it isn't really "engine braking" so much as "slamming the transmission into park in an effort to slow down". Basically you put a heavy load of stress on the rotor system that HAS to go somewhere. That stress gets transferred to the main transmission gearing which while technically capable of handling it, REALLY doesn't enjoy it. This kind of thing leaves you with lots of inspections, borescoping, and fluid flushes to do afterwards. Speaking from experiencing doing essentially the exact same thing in a UH-60M. Then if its military, you also get yelled at for "exceeding limitations" and everyone involved gets their pee-pees slapped.
Military pilots perform a quick stop to land in zone expeditiously, but as long as pilots fly within the parameters and limits all is fine. Y’all should look into CH-53E quick stops
That was my buddy, Paul in every game that had helicopters or jets. He would always tell us he'd be a pilot one day (we were in high-school). Everyone doubted him, except for him. He now flies the Blackhawk in the Army, as an officer.
