Lyrics: Just before our love got lost you said, I am as constant as a northern star And I said, "Constantly in the darkness, Where's that at? If you want me I'll be in the bar." On the back of a cartoon coaster In the blue TV screen light I drew a map of Canada Oh, Canada With your face sketched on it twice. Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and so sweet Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling And I would still be on my feet Oh, I would still be on my feet Oh, I am a lonely painter I live in a box of paints. I'm frightened by the devil And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid. I remember that time you told me You said, "Love is touching souls." Surely you touched mine. 'Cause part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time. Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and so sweet. Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling And still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet I met a woman She had a mouth like yours She knew your life She knew your devils and your deeds. And she said, "Go to him, stay with him if you can But be prepared to bleed." Oh, but you are in my blood You're my holy wine You're so bitter Bitter and so sweet. I first heard this in 2000. I was 19 then. When i had my first breakup in 2003, this song played on my stereo for entire days. Joni became forever etched in me.
Transposing her Appalachian dulcimer to my guitar with this tune back in the seventies was fun and became one of my favorite of my repertoire.I played it for my niece and she loves it.
Every now and then, a couple of times each decade, someone, who stepped across very special stars to their birth, makes music never to be forgotten. In any lifetime, by anyone. She is that one of her generation and I know all the words to every song she ever wrote. She was my sanity.
For anyone who wants to read for me this song.... He just got off work me. Lying on my back and his head rested between my boobs. Arms wrapped around me. Only 2 pillar candles lighting the room. His eyes closed me singing the song word-for-word. I tickled him with the tips of my fingers on his head, his ears, neck. And tears silently rolling out of my eyes and my thought was "Oh my God, if i died right now i would die happy. This safe feeling, this comfort and happiness that almost makes me sick because it's so foreign to me. And i remember thinking this is what being in love and being loved back feels like". It was truly one of the happiest moments of my life, listening to this song. Now, every time I hear this song its like a dull knife being twisted in an old wound. God, wanting to go back to that exact moment. She says it best when she says so bitter sweet!
James Taylor's guitar work on this song is so relaxed, precise and perfectly blended...It took me a long time to even notice how good it is...about as "un-wanky" as a fantastic guitar part can get.
I never cared for James Taylor's music - not good, not bad, just not for me. I was listening to this version of A Case of You a few years ago and was captivated by the guitar accompaniment and had to look it up and was astonished that it was James Taylor - here was someone whose music never grabbed me playing what I thought was the perfect acoustic guitar accompaniment for this song - never getting in the way but still noticeable, every note sensitively chosen and wonderfully executed, and adding significantly to one of the best songs ever. His music still doesn't grab me but I have a respect for him I'd never had before and was happy to find out how badly I'd misjudged his obviously great talent.

I ❤️ Joni Mitchell. Forever. She is a Deva, a Bodhisattva, a goddess, and a muse. Her music is far ahead of its time and also timeless. Court and Spark is one of the greatest albums ever made in American music history IMO. In my early twenties I had a cassette tape I played it so often my car radio ate it. I listen to the songs on Court and Spark today and they awaken some of the most deepest emotions--every song lyrics said something new to me in different ages and stages of my life. They're so reflective melancholic, and transcendent, and at the same time so humorous, humane, and poignant. Even at such an early age she seems to have captured every nuance of "The Tragic Sense of Life" (Unanumo) in the human condition.

All her best songs fill my eyes with tears. Just heard " I could drink a case of you, and I would still be on my feet. " Heard " the man by the quick lunch stand... He was playing real good for free " And my real real tear jerker - CALIFORNIA. Finally in my life / just like her song says..." Just when you're thinkin that you've finally got it made , bad news comes knockin at your garden gate... Knockin for you... Thank you Joni
Help me and both sides now are my two favorite songs by Mrs. Mitchell. Heard them on am radio back in the early 1970’s. Fast forward to 2024 and I’m exploring her other songs not played on the radio. It’s like digging up a treasure chest that was always there but saved for the future.
Joni mitchell was one of my late mothers favourite artists and she soon became mine. I have so many memories shared listening to Joni albums with my mum. Laughter, tears and singing along. I now play some of the songs on guitar and piano. Joni will always be my biggest influence in music. Joni has such wisdom, lessons and truth wrapped up in beautiful melodic song. Every time I listen now, i think of my mum and those sweet memories we shared... you keep them vivid and alive. Thank you Joni, for your music... it is more than music to me. (Kelly ❤❤) A case of you is a favourite
Mi hanno emozionato le tue parole ❤. Quanto amore puro nelle tue parole in questo mondo di anime morte, c'è qualcuno che vibra di energia pura e la trasmette.
Joni Mitchell you still bring so much wisdom to the world. We are in just as confusing times as the blue album. The problem is we don't have another poetic voice to guide us,but we have Joni Mitchells music to guide us like it did for a different generation
Oh a wizened and eternally wise Ms. Mitchell's version of A CASE OF YOU has occupied my playlist for years and it hits differently with hues of her life experiences. This is just as arresting though coloured by the youthful spring of her delivery.
The Blue album is one of my favourite recordings of a voice. There's something special about that recording (and the songs, too, of course). I think Joni was close to the mic while recording, and in combination with the spareness of much of the instrumentation, it really brings out an intimacy.
Joni I ❤ You....for touching the deepest parts of my fragile soul. For you have given me the power to cry and FEEL those parts of myself I may hide from others Thank you for your precious music and love! ALWAYS in my heart Joni Mitchell...so precious are you!❤
Joni’s lyrics go directly to the soul! Her poignant poetry and vocal artistry is unequalled. Modern singer songwriters write one catchy line and repeat it for 3 minutes! Joni paints a beautiful picture and tells the story! An amazing artist unlike any other … I can listen to her beautiful voice all day everyday!
Joni is undoubtedly my Queen, no one can touch her. She is simply the most artistic, musical 🎵 human ever!! I am so glad to have been 12, 13 when her music filled my FM radio, in So Cal, where I was a girl. I remember my dad driving me & my BFF, Cathy up thru Laurel Canyon, when we were 13, my dad was 34 & very into music & he showed us girls the fantastic place where our favorite musicians lived. What a time to grow up!! I will 4ever love Joni, I love her so much that I somehow just knew to Google Joni, 15-20 minutes after she was found unresponsive in 2015 & she was being rushed to the hospital...I prayed and prayed that she would live & be ok. I knew her health was compromised by the polio she had as a girl, I am so grateful she is still with us. 💖💖
One of the well-written songs if you ask me. It's just like Joni singing directly to you with her heart and soul, which may explain why it still sounds refreshing, poignant, and beautiful. I'm so grateful to have your art works being in my life, thank you, Joni.
When a sophomore in college, I bought Blue based on a critical review. It's incredible and keeps growing on me. Joni, Jackson and Neil have given me a greater understanding of others and myself. They've all seen me through some terrible times too.
From day one when "Blue" was first released, someone I can't recall gave it to me because they weren't "into it" (can you even imagine??)I was all of 15....I listened and I was in love. These lyrics, this melody and this woman have been deeply ingrained, and part of the woman I am till today and I have passed on this love and adoration to my own daughter.....Best gift ever...and the gift that keeps on giving. Now 65, and still could" Drink a Case of You"... Love you Joni!
Just before our love got lost you said "I am as constant as a northern star" And I said, "Constantly in the darkness Where's that at? Thank you, poster. Wow, this is fresh as when I first heard it. Congratulations to Joni on your Library of Congress Gershwin Award for Popular Song. Take note, Hussein M. High praise, if long overdue.
How can I break out of the spiral of insecurity? I was obsessed with it, and it was almost impossible to get out and gradually I gave up. I accept myself will be buried in the rock of thoughts. Ignoring my soul and disregarding my own feelings but Joni made me realize that human emotions are not so easily disregarded! I stood up for my rights. But... How can I get out of this whirlpool of safety that I've done myself?
So many artists have covered this song, but very few even begin to capture the charm of the original recording. I recently came across a cover version from the deluxe edition of Michelle Branch's "Hotel Paper"; I wasn't expecting to like it at all, but it's arguably one of the best I've heard. I've also come to appreciate Prince's rendition of the track. Aside from how appropriate the song was for Price and his stellar vocals, it wasn't easy to embrace right off the bat -- he put so much of his own flavor into it and the song takes on a completely different shape in my opinion.
Stunning. Stunning voice, stunning music, stunning lyrics. Wonderful imagery, painting with music. Too many modern artists just miss the whole point of music and songwriting. Will we ever see the likes of Joni Mitchell again.
I would still be on my feet . Joni you made invented those beautiful words. I've never been in love like that... I never gave my heart that much Magnificent Bravo
This album was profoundly touching to Joni's fans overcoming the hardships of the social engineering of those times. Some men said too high ptched to listen to. Only the most mysogynistic as it turns out. The "Fems." Love Joni forever, her work broke through the commercial bs & stands in the best of human sentiment. hopefully forever, but, Let's pray for the triumph of the Human Genome FIRST. God bless all poets artists now more than ever. Love to AlMEN
So it looks like the albums are newly remastered and remixed (most importantly). It looks like Joni is at the helm. Rhino does an excellent job. I am really looking forward to this project and have preordered!!
Remastered, yes. Remixed, no, although "SONG TO A SEAGULL, the original mix has been recently updated by Joni and mixer Matt Lee" is a pretty ambiguous statement. This song sounds distorted to me. I love Joni's work and own all of her albums, but am tired of the constant repackaging of stuff I already own several times over.
@@randyremote4687 I re-read the above description and decided it was an impulse order and un-preordered it. I appreciate your enlightenment on this. I am also tired of repackaging. Thanks!
Timeless. Unique, both in her composing and performing. For me, listening to her songs is like taking my soul into a time machine and sending it back to the times and places when I first heard her sing them over 50 years ago.

Keep digging.@robertsherlock 397
This song is one of the most beautiful and intense things I've ever heard. It always gets me in my deepest feelings.
"...if you want me I'll be in the bar." Totally brilliant and all together lovely, with snark. My favorite.
I have most of Joni’s songs memorized from playing over and over again years ago. This album is great. Thank you.
Hey Canada! Thanks for all you've given us.
Pure poetry. Honestly, those lyrics are absolutely beautiful.
Joni, you're in my blood like holy wine.
the voice so naked & pure, the words so sincere & brutally honest, and the music, timeless & enchanting, a classic recording..
Simply the greatest of them all.
Oh a wizened and eternally wise Ms. Mitchell's version of A CASE OF YOU has occupied my playlist for years and it hits differently with hues of her life experiences. This is just as arresting though coloured by the youthful spring of her delivery.
pure soul touching magic. incredible lyrics but that voice and guitar play too. there will never another Joni Mitchell.
Joni has a way with words and phrasing. I'm sure everyone can relate to these bittersweet lyrics..

The Blue album is one of my favourite recordings of a voice. There's something special about that recording (and the songs, too, of course). I think Joni was close to the mic while recording, and in combination with the spareness of much of the instrumentation, it really brings out an intimacy.
thanks Joni Mitchell for his best song of all time! Lots of love from Brazil 🇧🇷❤️
Proud of you and Neil Young standing up for the truth. 1/31/2022. Others need to follow and stand for telling the truth.
Joni I ❤ You....for touching the deepest parts of my fragile soul. For you have given me the power to cry and FEEL those parts of myself I may hide from others
Thank you for your precious music and love! ALWAYS in my heart Joni Mitchell...so precious are you!❤
I love every note, every harmony and every word from the great Joni Mitchell. I could go on.
Her voice never fails to bring tears. Precious is she.
James Taylor's tasteful accompaniment holds up in this timeless track. One of the best all time.
Joni's artistry, innovation, and soufulness as a songwriter, musician, and painter are like no other. So inspiring, so beautiful.
One of a very few greatest songs of all time. Timeless and legendary.
I came to age listening to Joni. Her music is truly part of me. I can't wait to order this! ☮
When a sophomore in college, I bought Blue based on a critical review. It's incredible and keeps growing on me. Joni, Jackson and Neil have given me a greater understanding of others and myself. They've all seen me through some terrible times too.
Thank you Practical Magic for turning me on to this song and the rest of Joni Mitchell. I was 14 in 1999 listening to this.
Poetry set to music. Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen are among the best when it comes right down to it. ❤
One of the greatest songs of all time
From day one when "Blue" was first released, someone I can't recall gave it to me because they weren't "into it" (can you even imagine??)I was all of 15....I listened and I was in love. These lyrics, this melody and this woman have been deeply ingrained, and part of the woman I am till today and I have passed on this love and adoration to my own daughter.....Best gift ever...and the gift that keeps on giving. Now 65, and still could" Drink a Case of You"... Love you Joni!
Love post Susan.Good for you that you passed it on to your beautiful daughter!
Just before our love got lost you said
"I am as constant as a northern star"
And I said, "Constantly in the darkness
Where's that at?
If you want me I'll be in the bar"
On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada
Oh, Canada
With your face sketched on it twice
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet
Oh, I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid
I remember that time you told me
You said, "Love is touching souls"
Surely you touched mine
'Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
Still I'd be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours
She knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds
And she said, "Go to him, stay with him if you can
But be prepared to bleed"
Oh, but you are in my blood
You're my holy wine
You're so bitter
Bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
Still I'd be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
One of the best songs ever.
Che grande cantautrice....la voce è meravigliosa, ma i testi sono aldilà...
Brava Roberta Anderson!!!
"you're in my blood like holy wine, you taste so bitter and so sweet. oh I could drink a case of you" i mean who the f says that. Joni is the real deal for poetry in songs
Such a blessing. I don't hate new music, but I do wish it could find its way back to this kind of honesty.
Her voice and the lyrics cuts straight into my soul....
Joni takes you another atmosphere with her chords
Her voice, her lyrics, intellect and style truly is one of a kind. Of all the others who sing this, I still prefer hearing Joni.
Happy 52nd birthday blue!! Love you Joni!!
She was, and is, so talented as a singer, and she so much reminds me, of the good old days when I was a young rascal !
Stunning remastering! Thank you Joni! ❤❤❤
God Bless us all, and Life is Eternal!!!
Stunning. Stunning voice, stunning music, stunning lyrics.
Wonderful imagery, painting with music.
Too many modern artists just miss the whole point of music and songwriting.
Will we ever see the likes of Joni Mitchell again.
Love this song and love Joni Mitchell ! ! No one writes songs like her anymore
The best of the best. Always.
I would still be on my feet . Joni you made invented those beautiful words. I've never been in love like that... I never gave my heart that much Magnificent Bravo
my love for Joni grows for 50 years now and began with "The Ladies of the Canyon"
Hello jurgen
This album was profoundly touching to Joni's fans overcoming the hardships of the social engineering of those times. Some men said too high ptched to listen to. Only the most mysogynistic as it turns out. The "Fems." Love Joni forever, her work broke through the commercial bs & stands in the best of human sentiment. hopefully forever, but, Let's pray for the triumph of the Human Genome FIRST. God bless all poets artists now more than ever. Love to AlMEN
Insanely magical always and forever
Interesting to hear about the new mix for 'Song to a Seagull' :-)
Thank you , Joni , for this remaster ! It sounds so wonderful , warm and rich , and above all natural .
Thanks!
An unqualified artistic genius.
As always - AMAZING JONI! (from a long time Toronto, Canada fan since '67)
Excellent and wonderful Joni Mitchell!!
Joni Mitchell, I love you 💕 Your lyrics are tattooed on my psyche, I learned how to FEEL by listening to your songs 💋💋💋
I first heard Joni Mitchells music in my twenties, now I coming to 52 and the music is still sweet and sad as first time I heard it.
Timeless.
Unique, both in her composing and performing.
For me, listening to her songs is like taking my soul into a time machine and sending it back to the times and places when I first heard her sing them over 50 years ago.
Joni pls go back on Spotify !!!! I miss you on my playlist 😭
