    A beautiful performance! Incidentally, for all you who think that Bach should be performed ONLY on period instruments, that just doesn't make sense. If Bach had had access to a modern violin and oboe, he would have been overjoyed with the opportunity to write for both the Baroque and the modern instruments. He was the great innovator! Just think what he could have done with a Moog synthesizer! Boggles the mind!

      fydler7640 The problem is, having these more powerful modern strings sort of downplays the solo violin.

    • @TheYopogo
      @TheYopogo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Point being, however, that Bach WOULD have loved to write for those instruments, but he didn't.
      He wrote for instruments of the period, with their sound and particular quality in mind; so the exact deep subtlety of the piece fits the period instruments better than it fits the modern instruments.

      A key idea for me personally is warmth. The current forms of the instruments have much greater warmth.

      Not just that, but this conductor perfectly understood, that it is a concerto ( musical competition between the singing - instruments for a higher level of musical unit) so, He recognised that how much is important to make every melody line sound very clear while they play them against each other, which gives us the whole and unified beauty, transformed it intoBach's baroque polyphony. It is also means the recognition of the importance of the basso continuo! Lovely version indeed, however the third movement is a slightly fast to the musicians, but I love that tempo though. :)

    This is excellent but they have too many strings. This make it very difficult to hear the Solo Violin part.

    • @TheYopogo

      I think it's because they're using modern instruments.

    • @nomorebushz

      It's always more difficult to hear the solo violinist on most recordings, mainly because it blends naturally with accompanied strings and the oboe is naturally more distinctive. One comment mentioned too many strings which is hogwash. Microphone placement would help distinguish the solo violinist and raise it with the oboist. The Adagio is fine because the strings are using pizzicato. My favorite is Harold Gomberg and Issac Stern. In that recording is not such a frantic rushing sensation, but more relaxed yet still moves ahead simply. Who wants this splendid music to end any faster than it needs to?

    Que mal colocados los micrófonos o que malo el i g de sonido, el oboe no se aprecia, el violin suena demasiado y la Orquesta tapa todo. Por otro lado el 3er mvto sin gracia como si todos estuvieran apurados por irse. Es concierto pierde su garbo por artistas que por dárselas de virtuosos tocan todo demasiado rápido, que mal.

      agreed!!! that is like saying that a Mozart Piano Concerto must ONLY be played on the first pianofortes of that day. Some people just cannot deal with progress. I like period instruments and pitch as much as anyone, but I would never say that something can ONLY be played in a certain pitch, a certain instrument.... how silly to negate anything contemporary as being "less-than"

      The most literature of oboes is barock. The moderns are created to make Bach and Handel sound good.
