    Regieleki alone has exacerbated this greatly. 200 base Spd and effectively 150 base in both Atk and SpA with transistor has made ground near compulsory. Feels like they’ve snuck a deoxys into OU otherwise.

    Pls do a video on the Steel typing next! Steel has been historically the most defining defensive typing for any meta I feel. You absolutely need coverage for Steel since it, and the Pokemon that have it, shut down so much of game. Hell I'd even argue Steel is the biggest reason ground coverage is so good... and then from there you can see why Steel + Flying has always been insanely relevant

    There's something that is often barely mentioned and is massive
    Ground type is a physical defensive typing that only is weak to (mostly) special types(water, ice and grass)...meaning that if you only look at the Pokemon's stats when team building you rarely will use your physical defensive mon(ground) as a pivot to special moves
    This is something Rock types struggle with

    Steel gave relevance to every type that is strong against it, fire and fighting benefited particularly. Ground being good against steel, fire and electric feels very relevant, same with poison that has few weaknesses and a lot of grass resists turn into neutral interactions. While ground never got a significant buff or nerf, every type interaction and new additions each generation indirectly helped make it one of the best.

  • @TheOftenElusive

    Every team should have a ground type a ghost type and a flying type. That's why everyone uses Lando. Checks all electric and ground stab. You kind of covered my favorite lesser known cores: electric, ground, flying. I find this is an incredibly difficult type core to handle and it isn't as famous as FWG or FDS.

    • @12jswilson
      @12jswilson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Fabian Wirantha there's all kinds of unusual type cores, but people lack imagination and just think FWG or FDS. Another reasonably well known one is Fighting/Psychic/Dark but it's mostly just offensive. The basis of an offensive core and doesn't synergize as well defensively.
      The benefit of Electric/Flying/Ground is that most electric and flying types get volt switch or uturn, typically gives you a rocker and a defogger and they're all strong offensive types with good defensive utility and the momentum helps you position yourself well. This is one of the reasons why Koko/Lucha was busted in gen 7 because of the offensive synergy between strong special Electric attacks and STAB Acrobatics with the counters to Koko typically couldn't prevent Lucha from setting up a swords dance

    zeraora, koko, regieleki, AV mag, rotom, mega mane, bolt beak, thundurus, zapdos, rising voltage, t wave. and joey didn’t even have to mention that it hits FIVE types supereffectively, which if i’m not mistaken, is the most out of any type. it also has ways of removing its immunities outside of coverage options, like gravity, smack down, thousand arrows. ground is not the single best type in a vacuum, but it is definitely the most effective and centralizing in OUs history. thanks joey, would love to see an analysis of fairy types dominance with how popular tera fairy is in the mew meta.

    Golem is underrated as fuck. Not only Competetiv but just for a normal playthrough. Atk and Def are really solide and it has access to STAB Earthquake. Also Stoneedge and Stonepolish later. Its not the best but its much more solid than people give it credit.

    Yeah, this is not competitive Pokémon they need to go back to the old school 6v6 and max IVs and levels for competitive Pokémon world champs at competitive Pokémon is stupid 2v2 level 50 to 55 they have had it this way forever It's not even fun to watch any more Ii miss the 6v6 even the champions 8 are 1v1 you don't see 2v2 because it's not competitive its garbage competitive is just you vs and a person 6v6 they should have a league where to can compete 6v6 earn gym badges n your county qualify for the tournament win the tournament to face the elite four or top 3 get to face elite 4 but no more of this garbage would champion titles for ever.

    The four main types in most teams are usually steel,water,flying and ground with the other types being extra in terms of defense and no pokemon resisting all of them. The only things you'll need a resistance or coverage for would be ghost and dark.

    I think it also needs to be said that the offensive pressure of ground moves in general is very very high. The only things that resist ground moves at all are Grass, Bug and -Ice- while Flying is outright immune. Grass is an ok typing, but you usually don't see too many Bug or -Ice- types running around since they are both the 2 worst typings in the entire game ( you want bug or -ice- coverage, not typing on your mon). So its very easy to do the midground play and get good damage on the opponents team by throwing out Earthquake/earthpower/HHP/etc. The fact that it hits so many good typings for super effective makes it crazy as well as it is outright hard to switch into if you have no levitate/flying. Imo those are the two real biggest points to earth types strength.
    EDIT: As people have pointed out Ice is even more garbage than I thought as it doesn't even resist ground smh.

      They really need to make Ice resist Ground (and Water). That would do so much for giving Ice a useful defensive niche and keeping some of the best offensive types in the game in check. Of course, we know Game Freak is never gonna do that, but it's nice to dream
