Idiots Guide to the Best Camping Gear - I've used the same gear for years!

- I haven't done a video like this in years... mainly because I haven't changed my gear in years! Here's an overview of the camping gear that's stood the test of time over the years of filming Small Plots.
Always amazed with how much you can fit in that tiny pack 🤣. I was thinking it might not be a bad idea to keep some basic first aid in there. Get well soon bud!
Good call, Sam! I probably won't get Kevin to get a more efficient Thermacel, but maybe if we team up we can get Kevin to consider a First Aid kit.
Haha I definitely should 😂 thanks man!
Your videos always make me smile! I like that you are not stuck on brands, and just use what works for you.
Oh thank you!
Steve Wallis is the godfather of stealth camping! Ancillary items = Space Kitties. And I can't believe you only have 15.4K subs!
Kevin will get there too!
Steve Wallis is great if you want to fall asleep from utter boredom !
@@CMoore8539 I would love to see that but not if he became like some of those guys.
Nice and simple! Much respect for using the same gear and not becoming a gear addict.
Thanks man! It works so well, I'm afraid to buy new gear that's not as good
I can clearly steve this video was a great steve. He goes HARD!
I steve what you did there
If I made a camping gear video Kevin would be my screensaver. I think this means Kevin is my Steve Wallis 😮
😎
We have scorpions, centipedes and fire ants here so a tent is required. However it's usually warm enough at sea level to get away without a sleeping bag.
Try a hammock. Off the ground.
Love the Steve Wallis background!
Always watching
I hear you on the GoPro temperature failures. My Hero 5 Black has no trouble until -10°F but my Hero 10 Black will fail around 20° F or 90° F. Not sure I'll "upgrade" after the 10. Also, Silky Saws are great until you consider that they only cut on the back stroke. Go Agawa, my friend.
Good commonsense advice Kevin and product review. 👍😉😃 PS......The fuzzy face really suits you well! 😃😃😃
Thanks! 😃
Great video. Probably answers a lot of questions; at least it did for me. Keep up the good work my old friend.
Thank you Jack!
Hello Kevin. I recommend the Nemo Tensor sleeping pad. They have 3 new versions depending how cold it is. I like the yellow one.
I'll check it out!
I still don’t know how you fit everything in that bag lol As long as ya got something for each of the 5c’s of survival you’re golden (you do - plus the 6th C which is cerveza🍺 ). Great vid!
Haha yeah i make it work. Thanks man!
Good video, Kevin. I'm not as experienced as you in solo camping, so I always have much to learn
I pack a little differently than you. I use a very large US Army backpack. I tend to bring a lot more water. I also like to bring a small, nylon cooler with a zippered closure. I toss in frozen meat and any perishables. By the time I'm ready for dinner, the stuff has thawed out and kept my perishables cool. I normally eat a HUGE dinner by the campfire and don't want to leave anything left over for the bears. When I'm going in a canoe, I have tons of room, so the sky's the limit. I tend to pack pretty heavy when canoeing.
I've always wondered what gear you used! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
A nice rational mix of UL and bushcraft. Maybe your base weight is ~13 pounds?
I have been using the NeoAir XTherm (Over 7 R-value) with the Thermarest Hyperion 32F sleeping bag for late fall/winter/early spring camping for years. I have no qualms with the sleeping bag, it's UL and packs up smaller than a Nalgene, but the sleeping pad is noisy and I find it hard to get situated on it. I'm worried it may get moldy too, as I have not been using a pump to inflate it (I should get one of those). However it does keep me warm, super warm. I did recently try a Thermarest Z Lite foam pad for the first time, for warmer nights, and like it, although it's not stealthy hanging outside my pack.
For water filtration I've always used a Sawyer Squeeze since I don't pack water and always use water sources. The regular size is getting quite expensive, even at Walmarts, so I shopped around on Amazon and found there are mini Sawyers for cheap ($14) without all the unnecessary accessories (although you'll need a Smart Water bottle). Anyway, both filters work well, and I'm saying that after using them with some mildly questionable water sources.
Wow Amazing, I feel like I carry a shipping container of gear with me! Bare essentials huh? One thing you did mention was the Air pump not deflating. I just got a Flextail pump on Amazon it looks to be maybe a little Smaller than yours and I think it is quieter? Maybe? (Only about $30) but it does blow and... Suck? (inflate/Deflate) also has a light. only used it a couple of times but so far love it! it also has a little LED light. I don't have a Go-Pro I have 2 Cho-Pro's (Korean made copyCat camera') they have some weird name though I just renamed them Cho-Pro 🤣but they were like $60 each, I really hate it when you think your recording , but the camera has turned itself off!! Still blown away by your Pack! there's like a 50L difference between yours and my Shipping container! great info Kevin! Providing value. Love the Wallis wallpaper BTW 😎 thanks
Oh thanks man, I'll have to check that out! And don't worry, most people I know carry depleted uranium shells and a small village on their back when going camping 😂
Nice vid! You should have mentioned the Steve Wallis mask you take with ya. Haha!
Space kitty is one of my fav ipa’s, I love to see the Rochester sites in too scared to camp in. love your videos!
Thank you!
If you wanted a rechargeable headlight.. I'd pick the Zebralight H600w. Currently own one, and it's wonderful. (I actually upgraded from the Black Diamond Storm.) Also, a small AAA light is nice as a backup. (I currently use a brass Peak Eiger Hi CRI.)
I'll check it out
I have a Thermarest NeoAir Topo Luxe sleeping pad, and I love it. Not as pricy as the yellow Neo Air, 4 inches thick and 25 inches wide. I also have a Nemo sleeping pad, but I find that I really have to baby it...not so much with the Topo Luxe, and it's less expensive than the Yellow Neo Air. 3.7 R value. I think I found an "irregular" one (never did find out what the irregularity was) on sale for $104. Cheers Kevin!
Thanks for the recs!
Hey Kevin how the hell are you glad to see you again every Tuesday 630 pm small plots with Kevin and I'M KEVIN just kidding your Kevin lol you should put your channel on the screen saver be proud of small plots we all Love it 🍻 cheers 🌌🐱

Haha good ear
You deserve much more...keep going. A man of class in the 'Stealth Game'.
The small tarp for the small backpack for " Small Plots " ...with Kevin 😉
On brand!
I like that head lamp because it takes replaceable batteries.
Me, too
You can use handwarmers for the cameras.
No need with the enduro batts!
@@smallplots cool
I DID SAY ONCE,WHERE U LIVE AND DWELL IZ "BAD JUJU".😮❤
How about a few first aid items? Such as...bandaids, tweezers, antiseptic ointment, tylenol, small roll of guaze, etc. Ya never know, you might get a boo boo. 😅
I'm admittedly too lax about that stuff
@@smallplots that's ok, just sending you a little nudge🥰
Amazed you can get all that gear in a 30L pack.
Plus beer 😎
Fun fact I have met steve manys times and prefer me a small plot with Kevin over a hunker down any day
😁
Some channel named Jose Diaz is reposting all your videos. Just thought you would want to know
I looked into it, Jose is a longtime sub. I believe he's just adding my videos to a public Playlist and categorizing the content. They all link back to my original video, so I don't believe there's any foul play here. Thanks for the heads up, though! I really appreciate it
kool
Nalgenes are made in Rochester ❤
Yeahp!
Small Review With Kevin
