What I will say is this, the likeness is there, he does look like what I'd imagine a younger William shatner would look like. I also think he's a brilliant actor who's trying his best, and is replicating all the mannerisms and everything. He's just not quite there yet. Chris Pine had wayyyy more practise since he was doing an entire film. I trust Paul will fall into the role with time
If you listen to him he just said that he is being Kirk before he became captain! He will evolve into more of Kirk as he becomes the captain of the enterprise! Paul was very clear about his role is this video
Let’s all say it ladies I watched him for like twenty min in the new stuff Kirk and I just can’t even watch it I cringe so hard lol after seeing him all those years on tvd it’s hard to see him as anyone but Stefan lol
While I love this guy he’s not Kirk, in any universe, sorry. He’s a super nice, smart guy but hasn’t nailed Kirk. That’s no criticism, Strange New Worlds hasn’t nailed what it set out to do either. Ethan Peke isn’t Spock and neither are the other actors portraying younger versions of original series characters. The whole concept has failed. It’s no wonder that it’s come out of a failed Discovery series. It’s done for money not heart and certainly not for Star Trek.
I feel like pike should have been kirk but thats how things turn out, but perhaps they can prove they can prove me wrong i will see is of course, im a huge fan star trek 1960's always watch them everyday still to this day

Paul Wesley might be fine as Jim Kirk if they'd stop writing him as a cardboard super-hero. SNW's problems can all be traced back to bad writing! I love the original cast, don't want to see the "kids" (legacy characters) come back to spoil a great original. I want Pike and Ortegas and the two legacy characters Spock and Uhura (Chapel? Not so much...same with La'An and #1, they're both one-dimensional; La'An is a source of Lizard Lore, and #1 is just bland and boring [the actor has done excellent work, but the writers need to give her something to work with!]).
I swear if Ethan Peck wasn't already an absolutely perfect Spock, try telling me you don't think Ian Somerholder wouldn't have been an excellent Spock.
