Practical people and stupid nails don't mix... which is I suppose the point of them, they're supposed to show that their wearer doesn't have to work. Me old mam used to say they were a sign of the dreaded "high maintenance woman". Gave my niece a lift to a Christmas party last week... She'd had her nails done for some reason but after a minute faffing with the seat-belt and another with the catch of her bag to get her phone out she asked if I had a nail file in the car and spent the rest of the trip rasping away with the file on my glovebox Gerber.
Ultimately, I will become an engineer. On my journey there, your love of what you do is inspiration & motivation for me; & your videos are fun as heck to watch! Thank you for all this.
I gotta hand it to you, both the acting and editing in the style of This Old Tony at the start was, hands down, one of the best executed imitations I’ve ever seen! 👏
For foundry options, you may also consider reaching out to Universities with a Metallurgical Engineering program and an on campus foundry. You may have better luck than a commercial foundry.
This isn't my favorite time of year but am I so dang thankful for the youtube makers channels. You bring a sense of joy to me that I just can't find anywhere else.
Funny thing, a few years ago I watched TOT make a knife for Xyla and started watching this site. Minute ago I finished watching TOT make a gift for someone else and get sent back here to see what she made for him. Love both sites, channels, whatever the cool kids call it and it has been many years since I was a cool kid. Merry Christmas
Happy to see you shine! Thank you for the video and I hope to see more of your funny/crazy/entertaining projecys! You and your colleagues are fun to follow!
I actually thought the same thing but I have a dirty mind so I thought that looked like a terrible idea of her making a fist of her own on a stick to give to a dude from a pretty girl. Cracks my ass up. Pun intended.
Always remember, things that look ridiculous as one or many steps in completing a project, that won't show up in the final product, are not ridiculous, they are genius. Keep going!.
Yes Xyla, I love watching your videos. Now, a Freemason had you do this setup, but it cost him. He owes you a trip to Tokyo, Japan. Me and my entourage are flying to Tokyo and will be there January 7th to 16th. See you there! 👍🏻
Being of the grandfatherly age and disposition please let me assure you that you would be/are the perfect granddaughter. Even your jokes are of the father/grandfather type. Keep up the good work.
Das ist wirklich Handarbeit, tolle Ideen und schöne Werkzeuge. Der Handhammer aus Metall wäre es gewesen, doch aus Gummi ist auch gut. Frohe Weihnachten.
Tony had his scheduling SNAFU but I bet it won't matter as I fully expect him to use your helping hands in nearly every video he'll ever make going forward. The perfect ridiculous but not useless gift for that guy!
I've learn this making a wooden mallet but its the water proof coating that causes a lot of problems like blisters and splinters. 200 grit really is the point of diminishing returns for wood sanding. And personally i just use mineral oil for wood tool handles.
I can say it is kinda like how a cast felt like, my first broken arm was back in the earlyish 80s and I did get a plaster cast, all casts after were fiberglass. the weird thing about the fiberglass is when those cured it would exotherm and you could feel it all up your arm like the plaster bandage cast, the fiberglass ones activated with water
As soon as you put the camera down on your hands.. I knew 😂😂 that was hilarious I'm met the sharpener for the Ottawa tool library and he's totally a woodshop grandpa 17:33 oh my God I died laughing
For any epoxy beginners out there, you MUST use a deep pour epoxy for this. Regular epoxy will overheat massively if you try to cure that large a volume all at once. You may end up starting a fire and for sure the epoxy will bubble and make a hot (literally) mess.
years ago teaching high school rocketry, the first time we were going to use epoxy I was called out to the office and came back and asked what the students were mixing in a 5 gallon bucket. 'The epoxy'...all gallon of it. I hadn't yet told them you measure out only what you need and they were being 'helpful'. Needless to say I immediately took the bucket outside. It was a lesson learned.
@@mojaverockets I saw a little kid yesterday wearing a shirt that said "In my defense, I was left unsupervised." LOL. Good thing you came back before things got out of hand.
@@mckenziekeith7434 That was about 20 years ago. I came off retirement and started teaching again last year. Administration told us under no circumstances leave kids in the room without an adult. Times are changing.
Ahahaha, Xyla, you are a treasure! :) Loved all the puns, and I remember when you did a full body cast, that was a hilarious video also! Happy holidays and much love from Slovenia :)
@7.47 Another trick with "canned air" (which we know isn't air) is to take out small hail dents on cars! Same thing, turn the can upside-down so it sprays liquid. You can also do this with Dry Ice. And for bigger dents that aren't "creased" you can use suction cups to "pull" them out. Of course, turning the canned air upside down kills the valve but they're cheaper than paying someone else to do PDR (paintless Dent Repair)! One of those Engineer/Hotrodder tricks people in the business don't want you to know about.
O. M. G. love it! will 100% bring those tools to the job site. can't wait to get my hands on those hands! thanks XF!!
You said you'd be surprised with us! I'm glad I didn't wait for your follow up video and cheated so we really did get surprised together!
Fancy seeing you here
Just... No MATTER how much your wife asks, never let her borrow the handmmer, Tony!
You just had to spoil your surprise didn't you!
come here often?
A very hands-on approach to a project for sure!
You and breaking taps should be in on this. Then again you guys might go overboard. Adam the machinist would be a good fit too.
@@Nathan_Whaley-g8m When has going overboard, ever (relatively) been a problem? :p
@op4000exe Well when you bring relativity into it, I suppose it's never been a problem ever.
Gotta keep your finger on the pulse...
Maker secret santa is probably my favorite online holiday tradition at this point, looking forward to seeing what y'all cooked up this year!
Me too!
I miss Reddit Secret Santa...
The second you go "my hands are down here" I immediately was : Hey this is a nod at this old tony!
That was actually an amazing impression of This Old Tony. Got that speaking cadence down to a tee :P
let's see what ThisOld thinks of it :P
The only thing I missed was telling a bad joke and cutting off the end.
She nailed it, lets all give her a hand
Queen of Secret Santa- I'm taking that title 😂What a Hand-some gift for TOT and we are so glad you love the Pencil-Drill! Happy Christmas!
-Ruth
haha that scrunching at the start 🤣
that wasn't even initially written into the bit! long nails are HARD lol

HERE FOR THE HANDMMER PUN
I gotta hand it to you, both the acting and editing in the style of This Old Tony at the start was, hands down, one of the best executed imitations I’ve ever seen! 👏
the moment you said "wow! my hands are down here" i knew who you drew

I love the clapping clamp!

As an fyi, the knife sharpening guy at our local farmers market will sharpen just about anything including hand planes.
the editors is a great artist, kuddos to his drawings. Looking forward to see more of it
You should include Nerd Forge into your secret Santa group. Just know that everything they make takes a lot of time.
I’ve asked them the last few years but they’ve not been able to make it work
-Ruth
Probably because of how long their projects take
I was thinking the exact same thing, would love to see them. Also would be awesome to get 'Not an Engineer' in the mix. I bet he'd be great
Just watched ToT's cliffhanger and had to see what you came up with. I think he's going to like it!
I'm only to the 1:30 minute point, but this is hands down, the best intro you've ever done. 👍👋👐✌️👆👇🖐️👏
The gift you received was fantastic! I also think that the Handy Dandy Hand Tool set you made Tony was a great idea.
Happy to see you shine! Thank you for the video and I hope to see more of your funny/crazy/entertaining projecys! You and your colleagues are fun to follow!
You’re simply the best! 👏🏻
Can’t wait to see Tony’s reaction and his gift to another great inventor/creator. 👏🏻
Merry Christmas 🎄🎉 🎅
17:34 Up until this point I was like "Um... oh no".
I actually thought the same thing but I have a dirty mind so I thought that looked like a terrible idea of her making a fist of her own on a stick to give to a dude from a pretty girl. Cracks my ass up. Pun intended.
Thoughts and building processes are so artistic. I do admire your signature, the lasering was amazing. Merry Christmas
'queen of scope creep' - that you can say this so unironically is why you are well regarded. :)
Xyla, happy holidays! Your right hand may be important but your brain is where your impish personality and wonderful ideas reside.
I loved the This Old Xyla segment!
Always remember, things that look ridiculous as one or many steps in completing a project, that won't show up in the final product, are not ridiculous, they are genius. Keep going!.
Maker Secret Santa is the best part of the year.
I'm sure I've seen something similar to the handmmer on another video platform...
I want one... for reasons ....
Extremely creative. Both the incoming and outgoing gifts are awesome. Love your channel!

These are really funny and perfect for Tony. Merry xmas, friend!! I loved when you discovered the pencil could also write 😆
I can hardly wait to make this year’s circular playlist!
Yay! Xyla video + cafe. This makes me so happy. LOVED the handy hand tools😁
Editor went savage mode with the commentary notes.
19:45 Those scraps just need to be glue laminated together to make a larger slab is all.
I love how the hand-mer and hand-clamp more or less have the original function? but they just looks kind silly and goofy!
That fact she's never worn nails is amazing. Also hilarious to watch.
Being of the grandfatherly age and disposition please let me assure you that you would be/are the perfect granddaughter. Even your jokes are of the father/grandfather type. Keep up the good work.
You may be a better Tony than THE Old Tony. That is awesome!
This is the most handy video I've seen all year. Clamp of applause.
Very much enjoying the editor's comments in this one, and the artistic interpretation 😂
7:25 see if you can unlock your phone with your new hand using the fingerprint reader 😮
I think there's a lot more to you than just your right hand. Happy Holidays Xyla. 😍🤝🤝🇺🇸🇺🇸
I love the hand clamps.
You should sign the Racoon picture and send it to the child that inspired the pencil drill.
Das ist wirklich Handarbeit, tolle Ideen und schöne Werkzeuge. Der Handhammer aus Metall wäre es gewesen, doch aus Gummi ist auch gut. Frohe Weihnachten.
was searching for this yesterday, glad it wasn’t discontinued
Niice!
The moment you've started moving your hands I knew it's for Tony.
the random YT maker xmas round robbin is one of my favourite xmas traditions... might have to start something like it next year
Always nice seeing you at FAR, this reminded me of making casts and reproductions for dinosaur fossils long ago in Utah.
Wow! That’s amazing. Merry Christmas, Xyla! :)
Gota Hand it to you.... great gift
I want my own handmmer - thats one is the right mix of silly, weird and practical at the same time :D
Merry Christmas, Xyla! You're awesome.
IDK how it would work, but a collab between you and TOT would be dreamy.
compressed air would have taken it right off your hand. Pretty fun video. Keep the Maker's secret Santa coming! I've been waiting all year for it.
Happy Hanukkah, Xyla, and Thank you!
Gorgeous work
The... implications.... hilarious. Lol i know innuendo the is subtle, but hilarious.
This is always my favorite time of the year.

17:35 How else would Tony use this mallet? Is there something you know that we don't know?
Love the sarcasm. She's got a dirty mind though
My favorite is the clamp with hands too nice
I love you both so much the intro was perfect
Astonishing and delightful. Happy stuff all 'round!
You could definitely "hand"le casting brass at your workshop. The equipment is easy to make yourself.
its the investment wax part that was super daunting! The kiln firing sessions for burnout
'draw yourself using the pencil' holy cow that was a LETHAL dose of stink eye!
I've learn this making a wooden mallet but its the water proof coating that causes a lot of problems like blisters and splinters. 200 grit really is the point of diminishing returns for wood sanding. And personally i just use mineral oil for wood tool handles.
Your Tony impression was spot on.
I forgot about the Maker secret santa. Now I know what I am doing for N amount of time :D
Thank You!
Hands down the most hands on and handy hands to have around.
I love the grandpa woodshop service. My tools deserve better sharpening too.
So got here after ToT's video, now i really can't wait for part 2 of his video
I can say it is kinda like how a cast felt like, my first broken arm was back in the earlyish 80s and I did get a plaster cast, all casts after were fiberglass. the weird thing about the fiberglass is when those cured it would exotherm and you could feel it all up your arm
like the plaster bandage cast, the fiberglass ones activated with water
YT Secret Santa is my fav time of the year!!
I appreciate the editors notes.
The reaction when asked to draw yourself with that pencil: priceless!
I would love a casting like that so I can always have an extra hand around the shop
Maybe you could make cutting boards with the scraps. I like the hand clamps.😊
Happy Chanukah and Chinese New Year!
As soon as you put the camera down on your hands.. I knew 😂😂 that was hilarious
I'm met the sharpener for the Ottawa tool library and he's totally a woodshop grandpa
17:33 oh my God I died laughing
Just love this idea.
That was an amazing TOT impression!
The TOT cliffhanger reveal has me ... um ... hanging! Great gift!
he's gonna love all of these!
If it looks ridiculous but works really well, you've found the best way.
This is the best day of the year.

"sharpen your tools every quarter" What. What! WHAAAAT! You need to sharpen often! And it only takes a couple of minutes :^)
Scrap-wood Challenge!!
that TOT impression is spot on :D
Scraps don't grow, but they do shrink. All my scrap pieces are way shorter than I remember them!
