with the vehicle off you can check the battery's voltage with any cheap multimeter. it should be around 12v. then start the vehicle and check the battery's voltage. it should be around 14v if the alternator is charging. if it's not charging it will be under 12v or whatever your initial reading was with the vehicle off. this is because the battery is carrying the entire load of the vehicles electrical system. your alternator is designed to carry the vehicles electrical usage and maintain a full charge of your battery. Now if your battery voltage is below 12v with the vehicle off and the battery fully charged your battery is most likely bad. Does this help?
