    I recommend anyone that gets the rtx 3090 to flash the bios to galax 390watt bios. it turns it into a completely different card and gives a big performance increase and lower Temps. it fixes everything that's wrong with the zotac bios.

      Zotac is incredibly average...which is very disappointing considering they are an exclusive partner like EVGA, Powercolor, Saphire, which are all highly popular brands

      The thing with Zotac seems to be that they're great at providing a quality card at MSRP, and possibly a smaller form factor card as well that is around msrp.

      @@samgoff5289 I bought a 3090 trinity a while, it does exactly whats its meant to , any other brand IMO is only marginally not ALOT, it,d be way less then 10%, which is really nothing to brag about, and yes i know they may use some cheaper components ,but if you are NOT over clocking they are fine.

    Hey, I have the LG CX 48 with the Founders 3090, running the latest 3.11.30 firmware, everything works fine, Gsync, HDR, VRR, all enabled and running smooth, using the Zeskit HDMI cable from amazon, the 10 foot version. Its the best display I have ever used, very CRT like with no pixel trail, amazed every single time I use it.

    I think there's a giant 6800 XT shaped elephant in the room if you don't care about ray tracing... that price difference for effectively the same performance is astonishing.

    • @samgoff5289
      @samgoff5289 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He is speaking to the productivity side of the audience, which unfortunately AMD aren't even in the running 😂 so no the 6800xt is not an elephant in the room unless all you do is play video games and on that case surely nobody is buying a $1500 graphics card...I mean if you have cash and don't give a fuck sure but in that case you don't care about price to performance so yet again 6800xt doesn't matter

    • @darreno1450
      @darreno1450 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@samgoff5289 I'd bet 90% of 3090 purchasers bought it for gaming. These are the same people that go out and buy the highest end gaming cards on release (titan, 2080 ti, 1080 ti etc). Yeah, they've got money to burn. So yes, the 6800 XT is very impressive all things considered. And if Nvidia is gimping their drivers to favor their high-end productivity focused cards, then the 3090 can't show its true potential anyway.

    • @amirpourghoureiyan1637
      @amirpourghoureiyan1637 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@samgoff5289 A Titan RTX is in better shape in the productivity scene, Nvidia has hamstrung the 3090 to the point where it's useless for most apps. 24 gigabytes is great and all but there's no app support to benefit from it, and for games that amount won't help it in a few years as its GPU will be well obsolete by then.

    • @gscheben123
      @gscheben123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      What I find even more astonishing is that the 6800XT gets the performance of the 3090 with HALF THE CORES. I remember the day when the Vega64(4100 cores) was struggling to compete with the GTX1080(2500 cores). AMD has made HUUUUUGE leaps.

    • @samgoff5289
      @samgoff5289 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @ you and everyone else replying obviously don't do productivity work 😂 do you know what CUDA is? Nvidia is hands down the go to brand for productivity, there are tons of programs that won't even work with AMD gpu and I don't even mean AMD runs slower..they simply won't work. This can't be the first time you have heard this unless you just haven't researched it

    A few words to the backplate: I own the zotac 3080 which looks identical to the 3090. On the 3080 you DO NOT have to remove the entire cooler to get rid of the backplate. I deshrouded my card because the stock fans suck imho. Doing this I temporarily had to remove the backplate (to be able to disconnect the rgb plug on the backside of the card). The backplate is held by screws that are accessible as soon as the plastic shroud is removed. Also I am not to sure about getting rid of the backplate entirely, because Zotac applied a few themalpads to it, so it is obviously meant to act as a heatsink. Just my 2 cents.

    nVidia's drivers under Linux is why I swapped to an AMD card. Every time they updated them it broke something else.

    The Nvidia Studio drivers do work with 3090, (I work with Davinci Resolve Studio) I was lucky enough to get this card in the UK two weeks ago, at a decent price, (under £1500) it's a big boy, very long as you mentioned, and I just about squeezed it into my rig, it actually touched the Reservoir. my EK waterblock and Back plate arrived last Friday (4th Dec 2020) fitting them is a bit fiddly, even though I have done this a few times before, but when you are playing with over £1700 of your own money, it's still nerve wracking, but the manuals can be found on EK website, although, they don't show the Waterblock and back plate together, so you have to work it out for yourself. End result, my temps dropped from 57c to 27c, i'm very happy, and hope to be using this great GPU, to play games, and earn me a living, for a good few years. love the content Wendell. and it's great to see Linux mentioned. (I run a few Linux workstations as well)

    Yeah I like this type of review managed to bag a MSI trio 3090 but had the choice of a zotac or a pny the reason on my decision was the fact the MSI backplate has heat pipes for those rear mem modules and tearing down is a very simple feat I intend on water cooling it as it's a very good overclocker and the temps on the standard fan curve are a little uncomfortable for me so custom fan curve and noise is where I'm at right now

    I managed to order a 3090FE at MSRP during the last drop in the UK. I got tired of waiting for the 3080FE to be available for more than 30 seconds before being sold out, scalpers and scalper etailers. The Zotac seems to be more available but goes for £1600 to £1700, the 3090FE when available is £1399. 3080's like the Zotac Holo goes for £950+ and the FE is £649.

    I scooped up the 2019 55in LG C9 OLED 4K120 with G-SYNC for $800 (open box). Gotta love Micro Center. Gotta love LG also, since they pushed out a new firmware update so the C9 now supports Freesync and VRR. The C9 has the full 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports and i've had no color compression or VRR issues like most of the CX models that have been known to have those issues. Again, the CX models do NOT have the full 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 port. They use a 40Gbps HDMI port with color compression. So, be on the lookout with some of these OLEDs. Even the LG ones. I also been testing with Nano85's and 90's, 4K120 with VRR and surprisingly close to the OLEDs. Just gotta test the panel. I actually took a USB-c adapter with me and hooked my phone up to about 20TV's testing panels in the TV section. As far as i can tell. Its OLED, NANO (85 and 90series), QLED from Samsung then LG's newest IPS 4K120 55in+ TV's. I haven't found any other TV's that can match those and at under a $1,000. Another thing i've found at Micro is that they don't put everything they have at the store online. I also walked out with a Gigabyte OC 3070 for $515. My friend was trying hug me when i told him i found a 3070 for msrp for'em.

      Using LG C9 with 3080 right now. Can confirm that it works fine now, getting my 120fps, but it some games (like witcher 3) you need to add vertical sync to the g-sync for some reason. In almost all of games I've tried thing are running smooth with g-sync. Although in doom eternal I need to turn msi afterburner off, otherwise I get only 60 fps locked (very weird). Also was forced to upgrade my hdmi cable

    Puget systems is recommending the 3090 for the Octane Render Engine, could you please run octane bench on your system to validate their results?
    It would be nice to hear the perspective of someone who isn't trying to sell me on an upgrade

    As for the popularity of Manjaro, among gamers on linux it is a pretty large distro.
    Second only to Ubuntu according to the steam hardware survey.
    Personally prefer to run arch but still.
    Either way nvidia drivers does still mean no Wayland, no wacky igp+gpu setups and general nvidia wanting to mess with xorg files bs. Personally I would prefer not to use it.

      the $ 1500 3090, not intended for gaming, is only 3 to 8 fps more in games than the $750 3080 . the 3090 additional expense is not justified for gaming alone. especialy if a $1000 20 gb vram 3080ti is sooon to be released, likely available sept, 2021. Also, you imply there are many $300 k jobs in the market for 3090 heavyweight users, not sure if you said that tonque in cheek since those jobs are hard to get, few and far between. although we value the nvidia dlss and rtc, the $1000 6900xt 16gb vram will potentially competein many areas with the 3090. and the 3090 is often not at the top of your charts. so, all this made me thing your review only recommends the 3090 tonque in cheek, not actually recommended by your presentation details. not recommended by you, between the lines.

    that's great and all, but I still need to replace my 6600k for the games I play and software I run, it feels so slow now

    • @Smirnoff67
      @Smirnoff67 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Money-wise, the gap with a CPU change is not worth it in gaming, you will definitely gain more FPS by switching your graphic card than a CPU right now.

    • @wreckervilla
      @wreckervilla 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      in my case the CPU is absolutely the main bottleneck, just look at the GamersNexus video covering CPU performance in games over the last _n_ years and you'll see just how low down the 6600k is

    • @Smirnoff67
      @Smirnoff67 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wreckervilla I have a 6700k and a GTX980. My nephew have a R7 2700x ( so mostly in the same ballpark of performance ), and had a GTX980, which he changed for a 3070, it doubled or even tripled his digits in any game he ran. I doubt he would have gained that much FPS if he decided to switch for a 3700x or even a 5700x.
      For sure, in any case, you will have a gap by changing your CPU, but if you have a "shitty" GPU, and you change your processor for a top-notch one, you will be for sure GPU bottlenecked. CPU bottleneck is less likely to happen in gaming nowaday.

    It looks like a better price then it really is I'd say. Since it's really only good by comparison to the gross overpriced stuff of the 2000 cards. And considering the weak gains we had going from 10 to 20 cards. This isnt nearly as impressive as nvidia wants people to think it is.
