The double edged sword about Democracy is no matter how fair or rigged it is. It runs on faith in the system to function. I remember a video of Tom Scott saying electronic voting is a bad idea and what he said was this. 'In order to derail a election you do not need to mess with the results, all you need is to sow doubt.
Rambling socio-political frat-bro Anakin is the best.
The best part of this is that everyone Anakin mentions here is a reference to real life philosopher with real political philosophy... and than there is Grand Admiral Thrawn next to them.
In the description of the video, Thrawn is just listed as one of the philosophers mentioned, without any not that he is fictional Star Wars character.
There is even source section in the description that contains some philosophical works and articles about the subjest... and than there is Timothy Zahn novel among them, because what else could be a source for Thrawn?
The best part about Thrawn is that he hasn't written or developed his work yet. Meaning Anakin is pulling it from the Future with the Force. And I just think that's hilarious.
It's a very long video, over an hour, and maybe this is because I'm not much of a Star Wars guy, but I feel that Arken the Amerikan's video, "How Liberty Dies: The politics of Star Wars" from a couple years ago does a very good job of doing a bird's eye view of the wider warnings and political undertones that people miss. It's more serious but it's really really good and worth a reaction, if that interests you.
Dude I've seen it and it is a master piece! Just makes me love the prequels more.
@@ifarded4986 Yeah and super creepy, considering how far back the prequels were made. Feels almost like a commentary on our own time. I'm a hopeful optimist, generally(even if I am pretty cynical about politicians), but it does not give much comfort. Unfortunately, people losing faith in and understanding of why institutions exist and are important is a tale as old as time. I hope we remember one day before it's too late.
History is cyclical. Empires rise and empires fall. The hegemony of the west will end one day and will come back another. Because humanity......humanity never changes.
@@HistoryNerd808 it was a commentary on the bush era and before. We just live in the continuation of the then current events.
Do you want to learn about Dichotomy?
I also remember a Polymatter video where he perfectly said it. "Democracies are low risk low reward, Dictatorships are high risk, high reward."
It shows that Democracies are more reliable in times of peace and abundance, while Autocratic rule is sometimes necessary in times of crisis. Like how most democratic governments deploy martial law in wartime, because tyranny can often be forgiven when there is a larger concern to face. However in times of peace, Autocratic, tyrannical rule inspires unrest and rebellion, because the populace have nothing to distract them from the injustices of a dictatorship. Neither is an all encompassing superior ideology, which is likely how neither have completely wiped out the other on the global stage.
@@cyborgcatrj6794 Almost like a Yin and Yang
In a way, though I still think systems of shared power, while slower, are still ultimately better considering any time martial law is invoked it works like any shift in political structures and leaves the entire system vulnerable to corruption. On top of that the high risk that tyranny involves is a constant source of corruption and infighting that destabilizes the nation and its economy. It’s really just not worth it in the long term
@@cyborgcatrj6794 Yeah, democracies are still overall better than monarchies.
Of "Seals are Good" star wars skits, my favorite's are
"My powers have doubled since the last time we met, Count"
"You are on this council, but we do not grant you the rank of master"
Anakin majoring in philosophy with a minor in sociology is a menace! Fear the faculty of humanities of the Jedi Academy! 😆Padmé who majored in political sciences is no slouch either... 😆
this version of Yoda is my new role model
There was one based b1- battle droid that was a good general leading their forces he’s got cool story
THESIS MAN RETURNS!
"who talks like this?" Ben Shapiro does
Come now, Anakin still makes far more sense than BS
I’m joking when I say this so bare with me…
This is why I hate Democracy & am pro-monarchy & everybody hates me for it!
These crack me up like nothing else, they're so dumb and hilarious and I love it.
And this is why I want a meritocracy instead
Meritocracy is a completely meaningless concept. Literally every government in existence markets itself as one which hands out power based on merit, they just don't agree on what that means. Doesn't electability show leadership skills? Isn't loyalty to you better for the state than someone being highly skilled but potentially treacherous? Are hereditary elites not superior to commoners because they are educated for their entire life to hold power and gifted with a networking system the hoi polloi could only dream of to maintain peace? Etc.
@@TheAngryXenite Anakin? Have you ascended to the comments section?
I highly recommend his "My powers have doubled since the last time we've met" video from this series next
Did Anakin reference Thomas Sowell?
10:38 considering the current state of world govt, I'm not sure I can agree with that perspective. What I will say is that democracies are potentially slower in the dmg they cause based on the size and strength of their countries while those less free govts are still managing to survive and sometimes thrive even when they're at odds with the world power. Back to the video.
Was waiting for this one lol
if you want more confusion, hop over to the channel Isaac 2187. he makes great music out of star wars quotes. the great one-liners of kenobi, skywalker, palpatine with some beats...
Currently taking a political ideologies class right now, I’m both scared and impressed on how accurate Seals Are Good is getting this stuff. Doesn’t make it any less funny that Anakin is telling me all this! 😂
if Anakin didnt think the system worked why did he trust the leader of that system, the chancellor?
DULY NOTED!
