    Pure Goosebumps. Over the last 18 months I feel like I've been on this amazing journey with you all at Spitfire and have seen you grow, mature and embrace the community around you. I wouldn't be making music without the tools that you have given me and am so proud to be a part of the next chapter for both Spitfire and the entire community.

    16:44 - “adding ‘spill’ from other section mics”
    This has been one of my most personally wished-for features in sample libraries (and biggest gripe for the lack of it) for a long time.
    When orchestras record spot mics, those mics capture the natural reflection/sound of other sections in the room when they play. Trying to achieve that artificially (using delays, reverb) is time consuming and damn difficult, especially if you’re using other libraries.
    THANK YOU guys!
    Also, that Tuba is badass.

    Please, for the love of all that is holy tell me that you recorded IR's with all the microphones in place, so we have a fighting chance to fit classical singers, etc. in the same natural space as the orchestra, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, pleeeeeease!!!!! The sound aesthetic is perfect for "serious" classical recordings, and I've dreamt of being able to do a mock-up that reflects what a non-mic'ed performance will sound like. I'm so freaking excited, but at the same time I dread of learning that you, because you work with media composition, haven't thought about the fantastic implications this could have for classical composers. But it is totally dependent on having matching IR's to realize the full potential.
    I'm not looking down on media composition, btw. In general there's more moving, interesting music coming from that branch than from 'serious' academic classical composition IMO. But I'm sure you don't have much regard e.g. for the real-world difference in volume between instruments when you're frantically working against yet another insane deadline, or whether all the components of the score sound live and acoustic. And artificial reverb (along with close-mic'd large-diaphragm tube mic's) does lend itself more to squeezing every drop of emotion out of the human voice anyway, so you wouldn't ever even want to use the reverb of the hall the orchestra was recorded in, let alone the small-diaphragm mic's placed a meter or more away from the singer that live recordings usually use. I'm rambling, I know. IR's!?!

      Alan Butterworth IR stands for Impulse Response. It means that you record a ‘flat frequency’ signal and hear how the room and mics react. You can then translate this information into a reverb using convolution.

    MAIDA VALE IMPULSE RESPONSES ??? - It’d be great if you could supply impulse responses (with the same microphone set up) in order to blend other Spitfire samples (piano, organ, etc...) using convolution reverbs!!! I imagine you’ll be adding extra instruments sampled in the same space over the coming months and years, but it’d be great in the meantime if you could supply a reverb engine plug-in that allowed your other libraries to seamlessly feed into this one (with judicious curated room sound/microphone re-routing settings that tailors each specific source to effortlessly blend/fit into this system/workflow/concept)...

      From what they said in the broadcast, they recorded both the ensembles and solo players. So at least all of the string instruments should be separate (violin, viola, cello, bass). Same for the perc and harp, and in the examples you can see the trombones separate as well so I'd assume they treated the brass in the same way as the strings.

Sure it sounds okay, but many things are unbalanced, and while I get it's meant as a demo, it's just not how most of us would use any library. it's not a cohesive piece. Don't get me wrong; this seems like a cleaner (and more compact) version of Spitfire Symphony Orchestra, which is really freaking cool. I imagine making this had to feel like you were changing the world, and I'd agree you probably did just release THE new standard orchestra plugin, the best sounding in the world. Not knocking any of that, but honestly, hearing about LABS for the first time was actually way more exciting than this. I look at your huge templates and, while it looks impressive, it makes my head hurt because all I really want for MY projects is to have as few tracks as possible.
    I use LABS patches constantly because they're quick, satisfying, and above all INSPIRING. That's what I wish this orchestra struck me as, but so far it just looks like another orchestra that requires a knowledge of orchestral arrangement (and a lot of time) to create something impressive with. If you guys used the existing recordings and designed some dense premade "color" patches for us, like the Sonuscore Orchestra Complete has, and then let us use the mod wheel to "evolve" the patches, THAT would really make me hyped up to save up for this. That would inspire the hell out of us. The only evolving elements you'd need to play with would be the addition of another section (or multiple other sections) joining in as a modwheel moves. Maybe making a timpani hit at higher velocities on a brass patch. Or maybe a way to slide between soft horns and woodwinds with the modwheel, allowing us to subtly change the color of a melody without several minutes of arranging. That sort of thing. It'd be insanely inspiring to have the ability to instantly blend orchestral sections like that on the spot, and I think you guys would be able to create something insanely easy to use AND versitile.
    TL;DR, make something with these recordings that works like Masse but on steroids. Sonuscore Orchestra Complete has sort of done this already but with a lower quality set of recordings (and I think you guys can do better).

    • @StefanNitzsche
      @StefanNitzsche 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not understanding how to work with it makes you want to have something simpler/pre-arranged rather than learning how to do it? I own the Sonuscore Orchestra Complete and it’s fun to play around with but it’s nothing serious.

      Modeled instruments are good and have their place, but require a lot of effort to get sounding right, especially in a orchestral space, and come with a compromise in tone. You're kidding right? Swam's stuff sounds incredibly synthetic. Sure the expressiveness of control is great, but they sound liked a synth, not even remotely realistic tone at all!.

      The Gothic - Sorry to disagree with you, but on your recommendation I went straight to the Swam website and listened to numerous demos, and they all sound dead. A bit like watching a poodle cook breakfast - a dazzling feat, an astonishing attention to nuance and detail, but to the taste buds the results are still a dog’s breakfast. Listening to their full orchestra demos reminds me of listening to the Flight of the Bumble Bee orchestral demo patch/sequence hard-baked into my Roland D-110 (rack mounted D50 type box) back in the late 1980s. It totally sold me, and was the cause of the worst purchase I have ever made. God how I hated that box. And that demo patch. Synthetic confectionary alas. I’m afraid to my ears, Swam has that same quality of audio death waves. It’s simply inhuman. A lifeless body jerked around by a human. An expressionless death mask given human expression. I can see all those various players in the video clips getting their musicians jollies off - “you *feel* like you’re playing a real instrument,” as you say - but I think what these kind of libraries are offering is not that *musicianly* thrill one might get playing Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree on a cheesy cinema organ, but the authentic human artistic outcomes a *composer* is seeking for their work. Deeply textured reality. And sonic ‘duende’. Realism. Depth. Nuance. Elan. Direct connection to compositional artistry through the audience’s physical, emotional and spiritual transportation.
