  • This tutorial explains how to design a distillation column in Aspen HYSYS v11. It also explains how to simulate a shortcut column in HYSYS to find the theoretical number of plates.

    Thank you very much for the video, your series of videos is truly excellent. Please note that when you added the additional trays to the column, you did not readjust their efficiency to 75%. Thus you have a top product benzene composition of 95%, not 97%. I had to go to 24 trays to get 97% benzene in the distillate.

      If you know the required compositions of the product streams, you can use the shortcut distillation column as used in this video.
