Before Undertale, I didn't know what a leitmotif was. But now, I'm just astounded how Toby can recreate a similar track to be happy, sad, tragic or climactic, seemingly at will. I think the first time I caught on, it was Undyne's theme versus Battle Against a True Hero. Hearing "Don't Forget" in so many different styles is just as trippy - the cheery "Beginning", setting out on an adventure during "Field of Hopes and Dreams", the soothing finish at the end of Chapter 1, and now "The Dark Truth" which has an air of being lost and hopeless.

I personally like the theory that Ralsei survived an instance of the Roaring, and that’s why he’s all alone. It would also explain why he’s so desperate to be sweet and nice to make friends, he’s been alone in darkness for a long time
I wasn't particularly thinking of Ralsei being a survivor of the previous Roaring, but I do agree that, if the Roaring DOES occur over the course of Deltarune's story (ever watch Disney's Hercules?) it won't be the first time.
It would also make sense that the "Don't Forget" motif plays in this song, and "I'm with you in the dark" is part of the lyrics... WAIT WE'RE MAKING A THEORY!?
This cutscene genuinely gave me chills. The music strayed so far from the rest of the ost and seeing Ralsei's demeanour shift from fluffy boi who bakes cakes in a cauldron to someone with such urgency in their eyes... and then of course, the whiplash of coming straight back to fun goofy dialogue made sure that the moment was short but affective!
I agree! I love how ominous and chilling this song is, so I was searching for it online a few months ago. I was disappointed that I couldn’t find it no matter how much I looked… in the 999 (Zero Escape) soundtrack. I realized my mistake while watching a TH-camr play through Chapter 2. XD It really does feel different then the rest of the soundtrack, in the best way possible!

I feel personally, that ralsei may be hiding something in the sense of wanting to actually protect his friends. Mainly cause in the castletown darkworld, these some stone with the same eye engravings as the titans. Perhaps the fluffy boy is holding back stuff cause it just brings up a lotta pain? I mean, he IS the only surviving og castle town dark-ner that isn't bound to one world.

That is a good point, Ralsei is the only Castle Town Darkner, although the place appears to have once housed and even adapted to housing a sizable population(The quote about "Friendship based architecture" when you first SAVE in Castle Town). So...what happened, to this entire population of Dark World-hopping travelers? Did the Spade King hunt them down for the threat they posed? Did the madness that claimed Jevil reach them too? Did a Titan briefly wake and crush them? There are ominous implications, and I hope Toby tells us more in future chapters.

The thing is, what such creature could make an fountain like that? Assuming the knight is the one behind the random fountains everywhere, couldn't he just make that fountain and bring the roaring? People keep saying "Ralsei should have told us about this" but????? He did? When he first told us about the prophecy, that the world wound end if too many fountains popped up? (Unless I'm remembering wrong, I might need to play Chapter 1 again.)
Well both Noelle and Berdly never heard the prophecy so he would have had to retell it anyway. I'd say the extra detail about the Titans was only ever implied in the prophecy because, y'know, prophecies are always vague. I'd say he chucked that extra part in to re-emphasise to Susie in particular as she had already heard the prophecy. Though, there is also the possibility that the prophecy isn't true
Reasons Ralsei isn't lying: - We already witness two darkners turn to stone this chapter, and it's stated in this cutscene that all darkners would turn to stone if the world fell to darkness. - Queen has nothing to counter this, she legitimately didn't know about any side effects of creating dark fountains. - Ralsei alludes to something really bad happening if the balance of light and dark is shifted too much in the Legend in Ch1. It's the whole reason you head out to seal the King's fountain. - Jevil mentions the roaring after his fight in Ch1. - The song in the OST is quite literally called The Dark _Truth!_ Why would Toby lie in the title of one of his songs?

Pretty sure those "huge titans" are just normal people, since Darkeners are just normal day-to-day objects, when light and dark don't balance there is no "crossing of worlds" and as a result, people are titans.

When Ralsei said "The Roaring" I look away for a second and make a joke to myself about Toby watching aot and taking inspiration I looked back and the titans were taking over and they were talking about paradise...

People think Ralsei is evil, but I think he is trying to get the player to make the right decisions. The opening of a new fountain is making him aware of the roaring that is about to conspire. Maybe it's an experience that he's met with before, and that's why he knows about it. When Lancer turns to stone, he seems to know what to do to save him.

Actually that piano bit is the same as the don't forget piano bit but it's more slower and melanchoic. This is why I feel it's like the day of the dead ost( more specifically the ost called 'John warns sarah'). You have overpowering chords, a small and sad letmotif of a previous song placed in a situation thats really bad( in day of the dead it's after a bad meeting and here it's literally warning the end of the world)
I find very interesting, that the Titans that Ralsei mentions has the same eyes (the ones in the blind eye puzzle) we see when we first enter the Dark World

The place where you first enter the Dark World. It's so eerie and disturbing and just.. Creepy. What would happen if you just.. Jumped off a ledge, and fell? Would you just get erased from existence or something? Trapped in eternal darkness? It's horrifying, and seeing those eyes in the cutscene makes it even scarier, like that place isn't just a random place and that it might be really important. Jesus.

If it looks like what Ralsei described would happen, then maybe that area is the remnant of something that horrible that happened before? In case that was unclear, I mean that, if it looks how Ralsei said it would be if more Fountains appeared, then maybe it's because, at one point in time, they DID appear, and something absolutely horrible happened, and although most of the damage was reverted or recovered from, that area is permanently fucked up, and can never get better again. Hell, maybe that's where the Titans are, somewhere deep down in the darkness- That is, if we can even trust Ralsei on what he said. There's still a lot he isn't telling us, so it's honestly kind of hard to say. I think he's a VERY suspicious character, and honestly I do not trust him at all.

Cave Story was really, really dark. But it was also in a different context than Deltarune, so it will probably be a different kind of dark. That said, Cave Story was one of the biggest inspirations for Undertale, so who knows? (Mostly I’m just happy to find someone else who knows about Cave Story.)

The in game character descriptions have never lied to us and have revealed important information. They state Ralsei is the prince of darkness and therefore he is.
This sounds like a darkened version of "But the Earth Refused To Die" from Undertale, probably to emphasize how the Roaring would indeed destroy the Earth. Harkons back to that line from the prophecy "And her heart pounding, the earth will draw her final breath"
Ralsei dropping his innocent wholesome fluffy boy personality for this one scene is honestly disturbing and unsettling. Like you'd think he'll joke around but..No,this is a serious matter and one to be taken with Extreme Caution and yet you see the kids,well...acting like kids hence why Ralsei acting out of character...or perhaps it's the other way around ?? Also...One thing bothered me through out this chapter is that how Ralsei oddly feels weird,Something feels off He's a little more composed,cunning,braver than just kind,wholesome and all those kind of shenanigans he used to be in Ch 1 Not only that,His Kindness stats which used to be 100% changed to Sweetness and it has 96%..Like that's oddly specific I am slowly starting to have mixed feelings..I really REALLY don't Ralsei to be the main culprit all along.
@@Symbiote._. It's also possibly him growing into the role. Chapter 1 Ralsei was a complete doormat. He's a lot more confident in Chapter 2 at providing exposition, sliding into his social role on the team, and of course, giving everyone a reality check when this little scene rolls around. Just as Susie gets nicer, Ralsei gets a little more assertive.

this scene basically confirms to me that ralsei doesn't have bad intentions. its pretty obvious that he didn't explain the roaring beforehand because he thought everyone already knew -- and a large part of him being INCREDIBLY SUSPICIOUS can be explained by him acting on information that he believed was common knowledge. well. and him having a super unhealthy relationship with like, the concept of negative emotion, that also explains some stuff
We were lead to believe that the king was the villain, then we learned that he was just a puppet of the knight. Then we were lead to believe the knight was the true villain, then we learn he was just a puppet of the TITANS. Will these titans only be a puppet of a darker, yet darker evil?
Alright, I've had my own thoughts about Ralsei for a while, so I'm gonna join the theory fun for a bit. I personally don't think Ralsei was _as_ sus this chapter as people have been saying he is, but I do still have some questions and definitely think he's hiding information for one reason or another. 1. Why is his name an anagram of Asriel, a character already established in Deltarune as Kris's brother? It seems rather redundant to have two of essentially the same character even if we don't personally see one of them. 2. How did he travel to the library's Dark World? He was only able to enter the spare classroom's Dark World (edit: from the closet's Dark World) because there was a giant door connecting the two, and _that_ was because the classroom and the closet were connected by a door in the real world. As for how Ralsei is able to survive in the library's Dark World (assuming he's a Darkner as he says he is), we should also consider how he survived the spare classroom's Dark World. I believe it's because he's born from the closet's Dark World, which is shown to be made of pure darkness and, as a result, can house any Darkner. Thus, he should be able to survive in any Dark World because he's made of that same darkness. Something else to consider is that when Ralsei is defeated in combat, he disappears, leaving nothing but his clothes behind. We know monsters turn to dust when they die, but he's clearly not dead since he can be revived with healing items. Not to mention, Susie doesn't disappear when she runs out of HP. I'm not going to say anything definitive because we're only two chapters in, but there's a lot definitely a lot to consider when discussing theories about Ralsei.
There's also the fact that Ralsei's entire existence seems to revolve around this “prophecy”, and that he had been waiting “his whole life” for Kris and Susie to arrive. Just how long was “his whole life”?
By far my favorite track from the whole game (Ok maybe after big shot and jevils theme). It has such a vibe of despair and sadness that makes you think so much about all the mysteries of Deltarune and the ties it has with Undertale. I don't think I've ever played a game where Im so hooked on the story ever in my life. What else do we need from a game besides a good story, mysteries and good music.
Despite my suspicions on the homie Ralsei, I gotta say, this part made him a badass. I love this part of the game. The foreboding story telling music, the lack of voice during the slow text scrolling, and the imagery. All of it was cool as hell!
Gaster isn't in deltarune he's just suppoesed to be neat reference for players who played undertale before, the closest we have to gaster is the man behind the tree who give you an egg which isn't really close to gaster at all aside from giving a similar feeling and room

I still find it kinda fitting that Ralsei fucking SNAPS when the entire world is on the line. He’s mad not because Berdly was being stupid, he’s mad because he wants everyone safe. He can’t let this happen, or else he loses everyone.
Deltarune seems to be a story about childhood escapism and growing up, and this scene in particular conveys that to me; Noelle wanting to live "where everything can be healed with a little spell" and Berdly's naive heroism are interrupted by Ralsei giving them a dose of cold reality- "the dark truth" that the world isn't like that. It's masterfully done and I can't wait to see where this story goes next!
I immediately thought of "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time" when hearing this. It has the same vibe as when they reveal that time in the future has stopped.
I've been seeing a lot of 'Ralsei is a villain' posts here. One thought is that Ralsei himself might not have all the information. A lot of prophecies have a dual element to it. In the Doomspell Trilogy's first book, the main character is set up as the last hope to defeat the witch. Later on, she finds out there's a second line to the prophecy that slates her as the end of ALL hope. The heroes may well be the only ones who can prevent/stop the Roaring... but they might be accidentally flipping a lot of levers that cause it on the way.

Is it strange that I do no trust Ralsei one bit? He gives me Flowey vibes - much improved, much better at cunning and subtlety, but still Flowey. They way he appeared out of nowhere at the beginning of the new dark world just set off all my alarms, and finishing the game did not calm any of them. This bugger is up to something nasty...
Well, slight problem. If this is all true, and he’s putting a lot of effort into such an excellent act, then it leaves one question… What motive could he possibly have to be evil? I mean, all this effort needs to pay off at some point, right? If he’s trying to undermine the Lightners’ efforts to save the world from the inside, then that’s kinda counterproductive considering he knows *exactly* what would happen if they failed. And, if you need to remember what it is, *everyone dies.* But, I do think there’s something interesting. Let me break down what I see: I do think he’s genuinely trying to help Kris and see the prophecy through. He’s been alone his entire life, preparing for the adventure of a… lifetime. Rehearsing the prophecy, foretold by time and space. Creating a small “tutorial” to teach the Lightners how to survive combat. Generally just doing his best to fit the role of the prophesied “Prince from the Dark”. I’m pretty sure this whole “kind and caring” thing is a front to make sure the Lightners don’t feel hated and leave out of frustration (like Susie), thus preventing mass catastrophe, but he’s been keeping up the act for so long that he doesn’t even remember how the “real Ralsei” is like. The act has become him. That’s why he talks about not knowing what being “Ralsei-like” is. The act is effectively just who he is now, but Ralsei still considers it to be an act, despite whatever he used to be like being lost to time, which to be frank, is kinda sad. But… That’s about it. I *kinda* see a possibility here that he’s trying to insert himself into the prophecy, but he seems more than capable to fit the role honestly, so I don’t really think it matters.
That little shit is up to no good, I swear it. Remember when he was just done talking to Kris after the Susie segment in chapter 1? And how in the Snowgrave route he insistently tries to get you to “Wonder what Susie is doing” again, but fails? I think that’s because whenever our perspective shifts in-game, the Soul (our seat of control) is taken out of Kris’ body to observe whatever’s happening. Ralsei knows this and is abusing it to talk to Kris (The REAL Kris.) And we basically know that Kris is the Knight at this point. I think he’s in cahoots with him, and that the “Main quest” of banishing the Angel’s Heaven (or preventing the roaring or whatever the fuck) is a distraction to further their goals.
i mean we know he's lied once before, he copped to being a darkner in chapter 1 "we darkners are most fulfilled when we serve lightners" or whatever, speaking to lancer. Yet he can travel between separated dark worlds and doesn't turn to stone: which leads to the conclusion that he just isn't a darkner. He's also transparently kris's idealized version of asriel, an asriel that never left him alone to go to college.
@@cameron6538 You left out one crucial fact: Ralsei is derived from the _original_ dark fountain. Because it exudes pure darkness, any Darkner can find solace in Castle Town because every existing Darkner can attenuate to it. That also means Ralsei can survive in other worlds, because he's an original denizen of the original fountain. ... As for being able to travel to other worlds? It's likely he felt the disturbance and was preparing to investigate Cyber World anyways. Time also seems to flow differently in the darkness, as Ralsei points out at the beginning of Chapter 2; we also manage to complete adventures in less than a day, in worlds that span so far it would probably be a "dark-world day's worth" of travel. So, there's that at least.

I am tired of this idea that Ralsei’s like, plotting something or whatever. The guy’s obviously hiding something, but we have absolutely no reason to believe he’s malicious about it. All of his actions throughout both chapters indicate that he’s at the very least a nice guy who’s helped Kris and susie do many things, including sealing two completely different fountains. I think he’s just a sad and lonely guy, whether a genuine darkner who has abnormal properties (potentially due to being tailored to Kris) or a lightner who has inhabited the dark world in an attempt to escape the real world, and has inserted himself into the prophecy, because he’s been alone and tired for so many years, and doesn’t want to be alone anymore, but he doesn’t know if people will accept him for who he is. I believe he cares about us, and he doesn’t want us to get hurt. I believe that he has at least half convinced himself that he’s doing the right thing. Is he a bad guy? Doubt it. An extremely misguided hero who does the wrong thing to alleviate his own pain, while perhaps believing he’s doing the right thing? Much more likely. There’s also the fact that the prophecy probably isn’t true to begin with. Maybe darkness will eventually bring roaring, I can see that part, but I don’t think three heros can stop it. Kris has created a fountain for crying out loud; why should be we believe in the prophecy after that?
the way this scene contrasts everything else that has happened up until that point with just how serious and dark it is, i can tell for sure that this game will take a massive turn in later chapters and become much more serious. I'm absolutely here for it
I know it's not technically related, but this reminds me of the Snowgrave Route. To me this sounds like the way Noelle feels. The fear of being pushed to hurt Darkners. The shock of freezing Berdly. The dread of realizing it was all real. The terror of Kris and the voice that doesn't belong to him. I can't imagine how such a branch of the story can come back around into a single unified ending. The context would be wildly different.
If you think about it, Undertale only really has 3 endings, The Pacifist Route Ending, The Genocide Route Ending, and the Neutral Route Ending. The Neutral Route Ending is always the same: Asgore dies, the 6 souls dissapear, and Frisk leaves to the surface, the only difference between the many Neutral Routes is the dialog you get from Sans when he calls you.

I loved this part, it had the same feeling of when in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers they explain to you about the time gears, and what happens if someone removed them
Noticably Ralsei only explains this when Berdly was about to do the thing they were going to stop the whole time. Basically like, "Seriously guys? I thought you *knew* why we were stopping them".
This scene really scares me, and the music makes an dark ambience that can make me have nightmares, but at the same time it's a good song, even if it makes me fear and hopeless
This may just be one of the most underrated songs on the whole ost. I personally think this is just as good as, if not better than Big Shot, and some of the other popular songs. It just has a whole different feel to it that really hits given that the game is normally so cheerful and joking.
i feel like theres more to ralsei. he snapped when the lightners werent following the narrative he expected (i mean it is a grave event and he knows the stakes, but it was just surprising lol). he knows when the player (us) is observing kris or isn't. he knows the layout of the school. he can travel between dark worlds. he tries to be as nice as possible probably as a facade and sweeps things like the spamton neo fight under the rug. he didnt reveal this to us when he first talked about the legend either, and he doesnt turn to stone in other dark worlds. im not saying hes bad, i believe he isnt. he genuinely needs our help and wants to help us too, but im sure lots of people started wondering about ralsei after they finished chapter 2.
Dude, ralsei was right about snapping at them during this scene. Even before he snapped, I was like: "What are you doing? This makes no sense. You shouldn't open more fountains. Our objection is to seal them." Not gonna lie, I was worried about behaviour change but he was right about it.
I had the same reaction as Queen after hearing this for the first time... so chilling and jarring, reminds you that there really are true consequences to come if you fail...
What makes this so serious is that Ralsei makes a face that we never saw him make, and he explains it dead seriously. He knows what will happen, and he wants it to never happen.

It might just be me but the vibes from this scene Ralsei explains the roaring and effects of opening too many dark fountains i'll be honest it gave me the same chills as Flowey's ending dialogue in most of the Undertale neutral routes endings, Chara's speech at the end of The Genocide Route and Sans's dialogue in the leaderless ending
Everyone keeps saying they think Ralsei is acting like he's gonna become some sort of twist villain, but personally I don't see it. Clearly he knows more than he's told us about, but I think it's more likely to be similar to Toriel's situation in Undertale. Ralsei is probably just trying to keep in line with the prophecy he knows and not let it play out wrong for safety's sake. Plus it's just really hard to imagine him turning on the player after getting flattened by Susie so many times.
There is a catch, it was HIM... Ralsei that told us about the legend... so this opens the possibility that he is hiding something, a detail that we should know but again i repeat, this opens the possibility that he is hiding something... because no one else told us about the legend, only him "knows about it" is quite suspicious... there is something going on... but until it's reveled we'll be left with assumptions

Before Undertale, I didn't know what a leitmotif was. But now, I'm just astounded how Toby can recreate a similar track to be happy, sad, tragic or climactic, seemingly at will. I think the first time I caught on, it was Undyne's theme versus Battle Against a True Hero. Hearing "Don't Forget" in so many different styles is just as trippy - the cheery "Beginning", setting out on an adventure during "Field of Hopes and Dreams", the soothing finish at the end of Chapter 1, and now "The Dark Truth" which has an air of being lost and hopeless.

I personally like the theory that Ralsei survived an instance of the Roaring, and that’s why he’s all alone. It would also explain why he’s so desperate to be sweet and nice to make friends, he’s been alone in darkness for a long time
I wasn't particularly thinking of Ralsei being a survivor of the previous Roaring, but I do agree that, if the Roaring DOES occur over the course of Deltarune's story (ever watch Disney's Hercules?) it won't be the first time.

I feel personally, that ralsei may be hiding something in the sense of wanting to actually protect his friends. Mainly cause in the castletown darkworld, these some stone with the same eye engravings as the titans. Perhaps the fluffy boy is holding back stuff cause it just brings up a lotta pain? That is a good point, Ralsei is the only Castle Town Darkner, although the place appears to have once housed and even adapted to housing a sizable population(The quote about "Friendship based architecture" when you first SAVE in Castle Town).
So...what happened, to this entire population of Dark World-hopping travelers? Did the Spade King hunt them down for the threat they posed? Did the madness that claimed Jevil reach them too? Did a Titan briefly wake and crush them? There are ominous implications, and I hope Toby tells us more in future chapters.

Well both Noelle and Berdly never heard the prophecy so he would have had to retell it anyway. I'd say the extra detail about the Titans was only ever implied in the prophecy because, y'know, prophecies are always vague. I'd say he chucked that extra part in to re-emphasise to Susie in particular as she had already heard the prophecy.
Though, there is also the possibility that the prophecy isn't true

Reasons Ralsei isn't lying:
- We already witness two darkners turn to stone this chapter, and it's stated in this cutscene that all darkners would turn to stone if the world fell to darkness.
- Queen has nothing to counter this, she legitimately didn't know about any side effects of creating dark fountains.
- Ralsei alludes to something really bad happening if the balance of light and dark is shifted too much in the Legend in Ch1. It's the whole reason you head out to seal the King's fountain.
- Jevil mentions the roaring after his fight in Ch1.
- The song in the OST is quite literally called The Dark _Truth!_ Why would Toby lie in the title of one of his songs?

People think Ralsei is evil, but I think he is trying to get the player to make the right decisions. The opening of a new fountain is making him aware of the roaring that is about to conspire. Maybe it's an experience that he's met with before, and that's why he knows about it. When Lancer turns to stone, he seems to know what to do to save him.

In case that was unclear, I mean that, if it looks how Ralsei said it would be if more Fountains appeared, then maybe it's because, at one point in time, they DID appear, and something absolutely horrible happened, and although most of the damage was reverted or recovered from, that area is permanently fucked up, and can never get better again. Hell, maybe that's where the Titans are, somewhere deep down in the darkness- That is, if we can even trust Ralsei on what he said. There's still a lot he isn't telling us, so it's honestly kind of hard to say. I think he's a VERY suspicious character, and honestly I do not trust him at all.

Cave Story was really, really dark. But it was also in a different context than Deltarune, so it will probably be a different kind of dark.
That said, Cave Story was one of the biggest inspirations for Undertale, so who knows?

He's a lot more confident in Chapter 2 at providing exposition, sliding into his social role on the team, and of course, giving everyone a reality check when this little scene rolls around. Just as Susie gets nicer, Ralsei gets a little more assertive.

Alright, I've had my own thoughts about Ralsei for a while, so I'm gonna join the theory fun for a bit. I personally don't think Ralsei was _as_ sus this chapter as people have been saying he is, but I do still have some questions and definitely think he's hiding information for one reason or another.
1. Why is his name an anagram of Asriel, a character already established in Deltarune as Kris's brother? It seems rather redundant to have two of essentially the same character even if we don't personally see one of them.
2. How did he travel to the library's Dark World? He was only able to enter the spare classroom's Dark World (edit: from the closet's Dark World) because there was a giant door connecting the two, and _that_ was because the classroom and the closet were connected by a door in the real world.
As for how Ralsei is able to survive in the library's Dark World (assuming he's a Darkner as he says he is), we should also consider how he survived the spare classroom's Dark World. I believe it's because he's born from the closet's Dark World, which is shown to be made of pure darkness and, as a result, can house any Darkner. Thus, he should be able to survive in any Dark World because he's made of that same darkness.
Something else to consider is that when Ralsei is defeated in combat, he disappears, leaving nothing but his clothes behind. We know monsters turn to dust when they die, but he's clearly not dead since he can be revived with healing items. Not to mention, Susie doesn't disappear when she runs out of HP.
I'm not going to say anything definitive because we're only two chapters in, but there's a lot definitely a lot to consider when discussing theories about Ralsei.

By far my favorite track from the whole game (Ok maybe after big shot and jevils theme). It has such a vibe of despair and sadness that makes you think so much about all the mysteries of Deltarune and the ties it has with Undertale. I don't think I've ever played a game where Im so hooked on the story ever in my life. What else do we need from a game besides a good story, mysteries and good music.
So, the "Roaring" is pretty much the AOT Rumbling.

Despite my suspicions on the homie Ralsei, I gotta say, this part made him a badass. I love this part of the game. The foreboding story telling music, the lack of voice during the slow text scrolling, and the imagery. All of it was cool as hell!
Listening to this track again after almost a year made me realize how much of deltarune is still unexplored and how mysterious it truly is.

Deltarune seems to be a story about childhood escapism and growing up, and this scene in particular conveys that to me; Noelle wanting to live "where everything can be healed with a little spell" and Berdly's naive heroism are interrupted by Ralsei giving them a dose of cold reality- "the dark truth" that the world isn't like that. It's masterfully done and I can't wait to see where this story goes next!

It has the same vibe as when they reveal that time in the future has stopped.
I've been seeing a lot of 'Ralsei is a villain' posts here. One thought is that Ralsei himself might not have all the information. A lot of prophecies have a dual element to it. In the Doomspell Trilogy's first book, the main character is set up as the last hope to defeat the witch. Later on, she finds out there's a second line to the prophecy that slates her as the end of ALL hope. The heroes may well be the only ones who can prevent/stop the Roaring... but they might be accidentally flipping a lot of levers that cause it on the way.

Is it strange that I do no trust Ralsei one bit? He gives me Flowey vibes - much improved, much better at cunning and subtlety, but still Flowey. They way he appeared out of nowhere at the beginning of the new dark world just set off all my alarms, and finishing the game did not calm any of them. This bugger is up to something nasty...

Well, slight problem. If this is all true, and he’s putting a lot of effort into such an excellent act, then it leaves one question…
What motive could he possibly have to be evil? I mean, all this effort needs to pay off at some point, right?
If he’s trying to undermine the Lightners’ efforts to save the world from the inside, then that’s kinda counterproductive considering he knows *exactly* what would happen if they failed. And, if you need to remember what it is, *everyone dies.*
But, I do think there’s something interesting.
Let me break down what I see:
I do think he’s genuinely trying to help Kris and see the prophecy through. He’s been alone his entire life, preparing for the adventure of a… lifetime. Rehearsing the prophecy, foretold by time and space. Creating a small “tutorial” to teach the Lightners how to survive combat. Generally just doing his best to fit the role of the prophesied “Prince from the Dark”.
I’m pretty sure this whole “kind and caring” thing is a front to make sure the Lightners don’t feel hated and leave out of frustration (like Susie), thus preventing mass catastrophe, but he’s been keeping up the act for so long that he doesn’t even remember how the “real Ralsei” is like. The act has become him. That’s why he talks about not knowing what being “Ralsei-like” is.
The act is effectively just who he is now, but Ralsei still considers it to be an act, despite whatever he used to be like being lost to time, which to be frank, is kinda sad.
But… That’s about it.
I *kinda* see a possibility here that he’s trying to insert himself into the prophecy, but he seems more than capable to fit the role honestly, so I don’t really think it matters.
That little shit is up to no good, I swear it.
Remember when he was just done talking to Kris after the Susie segment in chapter 1? And how in the Snowgrave route he insistently tries to get you to “Wonder what Susie is doing” again, but fails?
I think that’s because whenever our perspective shifts in-game, the Soul (our seat of control) is taken out of Kris’ body to observe whatever’s happening. Ralsei knows this and is abusing it to talk to Kris (The REAL Kris.) And we basically know that Kris is the Knight at this point.
I think he’s in cahoots with him, and that the “Main quest” of banishing the Angel’s Heaven (or preventing the roaring or whatever the fuck) is a distraction to further their goals.
i mean we know he's lied once before, he copped to being a darkner in chapter 1 "we darkners are most fulfilled when we serve lightners" or whatever, speaking to lancer. Yet he can travel between separated dark worlds and doesn't turn to stone: which leads to the conclusion that he just isn't a darkner. He's also transparently kris's idealized version of asriel, an asriel that never left him alone to go to college.
@@cameron6538 You left out one crucial fact: Ralsei is derived from the _original_ dark fountain. Because it exudes pure darkness, any Darkner can find solace in Castle Town because every existing Darkner can attenuate to it. That also means Ralsei can survive in other worlds, because he's an original denizen of the original fountain.
... As for being able to travel to other worlds? It's likely he felt the disturbance and was preparing to investigate Cyber World anyways. Time also seems to flow differently in the darkness, as Ralsei points out at the beginning of Chapter 2; we also manage to complete adventures in less than a day, in worlds that span so far it would probably be a "dark-world day's worth" of travel. So, there's that at least.

Definitely lends credence to the "Ralsei is Asriel" theory, or at least the idea that Ralsei is actually a Lightner in general.
I am tired of this idea that Ralsei’s like, plotting something or whatever.
The guy’s obviously hiding something, but we have absolutely no reason to believe he’s malicious about it. All of his actions throughout both chapters indicate that he’s at the very least a nice guy who’s helped Kris and susie do many things, including sealing two completely different fountains.
I think he’s just a sad and lonely guy, whether a genuine darkner who has abnormal properties (potentially due to being tailored to Kris) or a lightner who has inhabited the dark world in an attempt to escape the real world, and has inserted himself into the prophecy, because he’s been alone and tired for so many years, and doesn’t want to be alone anymore, but he doesn’t know if people will accept him for who he is.
I believe he cares about us, and he doesn’t want us to get hurt. I believe that he has at least half convinced himself that he’s doing the right thing. Is he a bad guy? Doubt it. An extremely misguided hero who does the wrong thing to alleviate his own pain, while perhaps believing he’s doing the right thing? Much more likely.
There’s also the fact that the prophecy probably isn’t true to begin with. Maybe darkness will eventually bring roaring, I can see that part, but I don’t think three heros can stop it. Kris has created a fountain for crying out loud; why should be we believe in the prophecy after that?
I actually just posted on Reddit about all the things I noticed about Ralsei that just doesn't line up. Guess I'm not crazy after all!
The way he acts after you beat the secret boss this chapter is also extremely sus, that was the real deal sealer for me on believing this theory
the way this scene contrasts everything else that has happened up until that point with just how serious and dark it is, i can tell for sure that this game will take a massive turn in later chapters and become much more serious. I'm absolutely here for it

I know it's not technically related, but this reminds me of the Snowgrave Route. To me this sounds like the way Noelle feels.
The fear of being pushed to hurt Darkners.
The shock of freezing Berdly.
The dread of realizing it was all real.
The terror of Kris and the voice that doesn't belong to him.
I can't imagine how such a branch of the story can come back around into a single unified ending. The context would be wildly different.
well, the steam page does have the statement of there being only "one ending" as a question rather than a statement now.
If you think about it, Undertale only really has 3 endings, The Pacifist Route Ending, The Genocide Route Ending, and the Neutral Route Ending. The Neutral Route Ending is always the same: Asgore dies, the 6 souls dissapear, and Frisk leaves to the surface, the only difference between the many Neutral Routes is the dialog you get from Sans when he calls you.

This may just be one of the most underrated songs on the whole ost. I personally think this is just as good as, if not better than Big Shot, and some of the other popular songs. It just has a whole different feel to it that really hits given that the game is normally so cheerful and joking.

i feel like theres more to ralsei. he snapped when the lightners werent following the narrative he expected (i mean it is a grave event and he knows the stakes, but it was just surprising lol). he knows when the player (us) is observing kris or isn't. he knows the layout of the school. he can travel between dark worlds. he tries to be as nice as possible probably as a facade and sweeps things like the spamton neo fight under the rug. he didnt reveal this to us when he first talked about the legend either, and he doesnt turn to stone in other dark worlds.
im not saying hes bad, i believe he isnt. he genuinely needs our help and wants to help us too, but im sure lots of people started wondering about ralsei after they finished chapter 2.
Dude, ralsei was right about snapping at them during this scene. Even before he snapped, I was like: "What are you doing? This makes no sense. You shouldn't open more fountains. Our objection is to seal them."

What makes this so serious is that Ralsei makes a face that we never saw him make, and he explains it dead seriously. He knows what will happen, and he wants it to never happen.

It might just be me but the vibes from this scene Ralsei explains the roaring and effects of opening too many dark fountains i'll be honest it gave me the same chills as Flowey's ending dialogue in most of the Undertale neutral routes endings, Chara's speech at the end of The Genocide Route and Sans's dialogue in the leaderless ending

Everyone keeps saying they think Ralsei is acting like he's gonna become some sort of twist villain, but personally I don't see it. Clearly he knows more than he's told us about, but I think it's more likely to be similar to Toriel's situation in Undertale. Ralsei is probably just trying to keep in line with the prophecy he knows and not let it play out wrong for safety's sake. Plus it's just really hard to imagine him turning on the player after getting flattened by Susie so many times.
There is a catch, it was HIM... Ralsei that told us about the legend... so this opens the possibility that he is hiding something, a detail that we should know but again i repeat, this opens the possibility that he is hiding something... because no one else told us about the legend, only him "knows about it" is quite suspicious...

At the beginning of the game, we wandered an area that featured one of those Titans eyes. Here’s a question: is that Titan dormant or is it dead?
