  • Few Navy ratings can reflect with such pride as can the members of the Navy Hospital Corps. Since its inception in 1898, the Hospital Corps has proven itself ready to provide medical support for Sailors and Marines whenever and wherever necessary.

Love the old salt. Nobody like an old Chief. One of the greatest men I ever had the pleasure of meeting was AGC (aw) Bob Skiba. Not a Corpsman, but just the BEST guy you could imagine. He's still out there somewhere! Love ya, Chief!

I served as a Corpsman from 1965 to 68. Worked in receiving and I.C.U. in vietnam and in the field with a field unit until wounded.
Suffer now with PTSD for all the death and injuried patients I dealth with. War sucks

Most Corpsmen, if they're any good, remember every time they have had someone else's blood on their hands.
When a Marine is wounded in combat, before he calls for his mother, or even on God Almighty....he calls for a Corpsman.

      And that's the Gospel truth!

I’m in corpsman a school and all my instructors always say marines only call for three things when wounded. God, their Moms and Doc. I’m going to be Doc one day and be a damn good one.

@@fobbyP Study, study and then study some more. There is so much to learn. But it's like the old question, "how do you eat an elephant?" One bite at a time.

@@fobbyP One more thing. When you aren't studying, you should be working out. You don't need a gym, but if you have one, use it. The Marines have no respect for a Corpsman who can't carry their own load or who can't keep up. Know your stuff medically, pull your weight and don't complain.....be humble. But also be willing to fight the battle for your Marines if you know they're sick or injured.

It never changes for the 8404... Warning, you will randomly cry for those who you couldn't save, for the rest of your life.. HM / 8425/8404/0000 (FMF/SW) 1980-86

OOrrah! As an old 8404 Devil Doc from Nam I can relate. Once you go green you never go back. You will never forget your fist casualty.

It's a dirty job and no one needs to do it. The truth is that all corpsman are custodians! We clean toilets, sweep the floor, mow the lawn, pick up garbage, dispense cigarettes to hobos, tell runaways to go home. You know. Important stuff!
