    Thanks for this Chief. We are transitioning from an SUV to a pickup, and this tour was very helpful.

    This is one of the best rundowns I've seen detailed out very well and though out. Thank you Chief for your insight, experience and tips!

    Great ideas, even as a fire marshal. I’m getting an ARE cap, same style, soon for my crew cab Ford. Already have the slide out with 5he same full length problem. We thought it was full clearance until after it was ordered and installed; I’ve worked around it. Really great ideas, thanks Chief.

    Pickup vs Van is also a good question. Most people will choose a pickup, however there isn't anything a pickup can do and a van can't do. Great advantage of the van is that you can have your command post inside, sitting at a table

    • @nmartin33
      @nmartin33  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have seen that become a thing in Europe and some places - just haven't seen that really hit over here yet. We do have a van like command post that responds on the 3rd alarm, that has that kind of set up.

      @@nmartin33 it's not really a recent trend which just became popular, it's popular for like 3 to 4 decades already. They come in all sizes and shapes, from rather compact ones like the Vito and T6 (the Vito is sold as Metris in the US, and the T6 might be known as California Camper) which are used also by first due Battalion Chiefs to the medium size command units based on a medium long wheelbase Sprinter, to larger Command and Command Support Units which are usually on a long wheelbase van or van + box.
      You see those compact to medium size command vans responding at 1st alarms at pretty much any call, from automatic / activated fire alarms to traffic accidents etc
      This for example is a typical medium size Command Van from a small town (population of 13k inhabitants) volunteer FD: th-cam.com/video/9hTC2jyHtCY/w-d-xo.html

    Does your med bag have an AED, that's really the only thing I can think that you're missing.

    Can you further explain your comment on not wearing a leather in a practice burn. My department does not allow the use of them so I’m not familiar with the issue you are referencing.

      Maybe he means his primary chief helmet? Probably doesn't want to get it dirty and messed.

    • @mikel9567
      @mikel9567 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leather helmets are expensive. He isn't going to waste his expensive leather helmet on practice, especially when it provides no more benefit than a standard helmet. So he saves it for real fires.
