My grandparents were married in 1944 and I love the pictures from back then. My grandmother never wore blush. She just pinched her cheeks. She always curled her lashes, even when she didn't wear mascara, powder and revlon lipstick. She said she wore red lipstick when she was younger but switched to pink as she got older. I sure do miss her.
+Emily Rachel Gilley haha yes they're my working hands! I just say ugly because I don't look after them well even if they're short haha the cuticles are always dry and split!
So 1940's! You suit this look so much. I'm gonna try this myself tomorrow!! I just bought a new lipstick from Winky Lux (shade "Dirty Love") and I am so in love with the red that I want to try a statement look with it. Great tutorial as always :) Side note: Warm soul is my favourite blush of all time!!
Arna Alayne I can't remember, but it seems like something I would say haha. It has a nice tone that, like you said in the video, means that generally I don't need to wear any bronzer when using it, which is a plus :)
I've been loving this series! I hope some of the upcoming decades have some bright colours, I'd love to see a tutorial using bright eyeshadows for pale skin! xx
+Michelle Rogers yep!! 1970's & 1980's will be bright colours :D 1950's will be in the same vein as this look but more dramatic, 1960's will be Mod (SOOOO excited to film this!) xx
+Michelle Rogers actually I'll probably add a little more "pink" hues to my 1950's look. Obviously there was a huge variety in makeup styles so I'll try to do something a little different to 1940's as the two periods are often a little similar with "typical" period looks
Arna Alayne ooh I can't wait to see these!! I always love watching your tutorials, I'm not quite as fair as you but I definitely still fall into the pale skin category. It's great to see make up looks that I know will look nice on my skin tone! xx
Side note - have you tried the australis lip primer? I swatched it in store and it felt super nice on my hand but idk cause australis products are usually pretty shit haha
I'm loving this series! I've done a lot of vintage looks but with my fine hair I've never ever managed the victory rolls. I always just curl my hair and that's about it 😁
+Emily Rachel Gilley That's ok! I would suggest curling your hair, then grabbing the front section and back combing with a volume spray like the batiste one and then when you try to style it, it's much more manageable x
been waiting all day to watch this ! Such an interesting video in addition to a great makeup look ! I myself am not a huge fan of more orange toned lipsticks but it definitely worked well with that blush :) Cant wait for the next instalment in the series :)
Hi Arna Im a fair brown skin British Muslim Bengali female and not pale skin but I watch your videos as an inspiration. In the next few months I am arranging events where I shall be doing 1920's afternoon tea at the Betty Blythe london, 1930's Im going to watch 42nd street musical london and finally 1940's Im going to have summer picnic lunch at Cahoots Underground london. I am going to go to watch An American In Paris Musical London and I need you to do the 1950's makeup as I am going to watch the show in early weekend August. Please can you do the 1950's makeup soon lolz :] Keep up your great work!
+Misty Hinds Its the same setup as usual lovely! I also don't apply much product - like to keep it subtle rather than layering on simply so the camera picks it up xx
I know this isn't related to the video, but do you have any suggestions for a US like "setting" powder. In your most recent foundation routine you posted, you use an Australian only powder. Could you please give some suggestions? Also do you have any bronzer/highlight/contour/blush suggestions? Im trying to get good quality but maybe not as pricey as some you've listed. Thank you!
+Catloverjane2000 I love the ELF blushes for an affordable option, the physicians formula butter Bronzer is great, and the essence eyeshadow in Rosie Flamingo is my favourite drugstore highlight! That powder I suggested is quite unique, but the closest thing I've found is the laura mercier powder! Sorry xx
Thank you so much! I really enjoy that you take the time to answer to us! Keep up the hard work girl! I think you deserve more than you have right now on youtube but keep pushing through!

+rolltide9501 awww that's very sweet x
Lovely, as always! The 1940s/50s are probably my favorite decades, makeup-wise. Such simple (comparatively) yet elegant looks.
+coastlines yes I too have a soft spot for the 1940's :)
Quick note - short unpainted nails are not ugly, they mean you're a hard working artist, musician, etc ❤️ 🎼
+Emily Rachel Gilley haha yes they're my working hands! I just say ugly because I don't look after them well even if they're short haha the cuticles are always dry and split!
Emily Rachel Gilley lighten up
CES 1 lighten up? i thought what she said was great
Ok children!! Let's play nice here haha everyone is just a little confused and misunderstanding one another :) no biggie! Have a great night xx
CES 1 I'm a musician who went to uni and my family are a bunch of painters, I was commiserating and being encouraging about having artists hands :)
40s & 50s are definitely my favourite time periods for makeup & clothing.
+Rebecca Jenkins So nice aye!! I feel like it's the era I instantly think of when people say retro or vintage!
L'Oréal lumi is my ride or die foundation lightened.. love it
+CES 1 Yes it's nice!! And affordable :)

+Misty Hinds Its the same setup as usual lovely! I also don't apply much product - like to keep it subtle rather than layering on simply so the camera picks it up xx
Hi, Arna. Going to do the 60's anytime soon?
Laurie Tegen yes!! Soon - sorry, it's just a hard look to film, & I want to take my time and do it well :) will definitely be up in September!
Arna Alayne thank you! Youre doing a great job :)
