      He's 73 years old. Colonialism forced black people back then to think that whites were Gods to be worshiped. The ones who didn't comply were killed. That way of thinking was passed down from generation to generation. It's just Stockholm syndrome; a huge mental side effect of slavery. 🤷🏾‍♀️

      @@AlisonRyce you ever stopped, and thought outside of the box about the Irish blood in your family. The Irish were brought to the Islands, and were servants. The bred with Africans in the Islands. They didn't rape the Africans in the Islands. It's more uncommon to be from one of the Islands, and not have Irish blood in you. People need to be educated about the Irish blood they have in them instead of jumping to conclusions about how they got their Irish blood

      @@buschgardenandbeer7041 Thanks for sharing! Yup! In the 10 years of building my family tree & traveling to the Caribbean, I've looked at all avenues. I'm not talking about my Irish Ancestors that were in Barbados; I'm talking about the Colorism that came as a result of Colonization. Marrying a light-skinned man like my father guaranteed a better way of life for my dark-skinned mother's children. That meant better jobs & more opportunities. We still suffer with that in the Caribbean today & I hope that way of thinking dies out.

      It is important to state that not all European blood has come through rape.
      In Jamaica there are are Germans and Chinese Jamaicans that have been there nearly 200 years. It's very easy and lazy to assume that if you are black and have European genes, that it must have come through rape. I really don't understand why some people get so angry about other people's past and history.Yes people from the Windies like to celebrate having difference in their families which is not due to rape, what is wrong with that?Is that envy that they know their families history and you don't? Mind your own business and keep your nasty remarks to yourself! Because the way some of you lash out is very telling. .....

      vote 4me You can't make such a broad sweeping generalization like that. Besides, rape has been a tool of the conqueror from the beginning of time. Furthermore, I find it quaint that so many are "washing their hands off" European ancestry; yet I've never heard anyone argue for Africans globally to let go of their oppressors' slave religion; the very same religion that enslaved their ancestors. Africans globally suffer from collective amnesia and have forgotten or have no knowledge of their ancestor's belief system. Yet they still cling to these Abrahamic religions. Don't you find it quaint that the oppressed worship the same god as their oppressors???

      Where are you from? Unless you are from continental Europe, Asia or Africa, you are likely to be mixed to some extent. And even continental Europeans, Asians and Africans who think their lineage is homogenous can have various origins simply because of human history of travelling and mixing.

    I've really enjoyed watching all your DNA test results vids. I'm curious as to whether you've connected with any of the people who you matched with & if you've figured out how you're related? I can't imagine how much more difficult it must be to put together an extended tree if your family was displaced a few generations ago and you come from places where records were either not well kept or have been destroyed; so I hope the DNA results can help with that in some way. And even if you don't necessarily connect all the dots you gain lots of wonderful stories from newly discovered distant cousins. :)

    • @AlisonRyce
      @AlisonRyce  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks!!! I've connected with a few leads and so far i've been able to add one woman to my family tree! It was so exciting and I was so happy to connect with her. She is my third cousin (23andMe was spot on with their prediction) and her husband turned out to be my boyfriend Nigel's third cousin! What a crazy coincidence!
      My most exciting connection is with a man from Zalivé, Togo. He's cousins with me on my mom's side. His family moved to the coastal region of the country in the early 1500's. It was from there that some of the family members were captured and taken to the Caribbean. One of those family members was my ancestor! I have African cousins now! I wanted to do backflips when I connected with him! Thanks for asking! ❤️

    Very cool. I thought your father would have a European paternal haplogroup since he is lighter-skinned. I also thought he would have more European in general. But it goes to show you can't judge genes just by looks.

    • @AlisonRyce
      @AlisonRyce  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      5595542Angor I totally agree with you. I thought that he would have more European as well, but his results makes a lot of sense to me. The couples on my father's side of the family were all polar opposites. His grandfather was very light skined and his wife was very dark. Their daughter (dad's mom, shown at 3:14) turned out light like her father (with red hair) and she married a dark skinned man. They had my dad and he married my mom who has a dark complexion as well. Even though his complexion looks like he could be 70-79 African, his Father & maternal Grandmother pushed his African Average higher.
      When it came to his paternal haplogroup, I wasn't shocked about that. His late Father (shown at 3:14) could've possibly been 95+ African.

    • @AlisonRyce
      @AlisonRyce  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      azure kite Well, I was basing it on more than skin complexion. My dad's family are natural red heads and many of them (including his mom) had gray or hazel eyes. Let me explain further; I'm from a place in the Caribbean where people don't encounter Europeans much. Anyone that Isn't very dark or don't fit into the stereotypical "African" look is considered mixed or called "white". Believe it or not, many people in my community back home considered my father a white man. When you live in a nation that's half African & half Indian (dark Indians from south India), your imagination might go a little wild when it comes to other people that don't live in your country.

      I know you meant no disrespect to Europeans when you say that. I kept it in the back of my mind that I just might have a European paternal Haplogroup. On a good note, you're fortunate because you have the opportunity to trace your ancestry further back than those with African Paternal Haplogroups.
      Another thing to keep in mind, mostly all descendants of people that were enslaved have European Haplogroups in our families. I strongly believe that my dad's mom has strong Paternal Irish roots. My plan is to test her brother (dadd's Uncle) to test that theory.

      Alison Ryce Oh absolutely! I actually didn't mean anything malice towards Europeans. Just that I've always been proud and enamoured with my Africaness, and wasn't quite prepared to be anything else. But, now I'm settled with the fact that at least my mt haplo group started in Africa 40 thousand years ago. Now, concerning your father's uncle, please do the test for him, and post a video about it ☺

      I've seen a couple of African Americans with 100% scores, and I'm sure there are plenty more, but DNA tests might not be affordable to everybody. I did mine with DNA Tribes, still waiting for the results. My parents were both Namibian by nationality, I know my fathers side are all Owambo/Ovambo people and my mothers side are a bit more "mixed" (my maternal grandfather had parents who were Chokwe & Ovimbundu, and my mother, grandmother and great grandmother were all Himba) . I hope there's some khoi-san in my DNA as well as the aforementioned ethnic groups. Can't wait to see the results of your other family-members!

    Your dad Paternal haplogroup is from the Linage of Shem. He is a Hebrew Israelite. If you goggle the Haplogroup E Tree it gives all the subgroups of E which is E1b1a. This has been proven scientifically. Also, there are several great TH-cam and Amazon videos that give great academic sources for their research. But, Hebrew to Negro is a great series to watch and start your journey. Most Africa slaves were Hebrew.

      hachadi soukayna That's what I've heard growing up all my life. My dad was the "Asian" one out of his brothers and sisters. They told me that I looked Asian when I was born. We really thought that he would have more Asian in his results, but that thought went away after seeing my own results.
      After getting my results, I learned so much more about Africa. My slant eyes came from my 90.3% West African genes, not from my 0.7% Asian genes. I had no idea that Africa was so diverse. I'm not ashamed to admit that because African history wasn't taught where I grew up. Now that we live in the information age, I can learn as much as I want to. These DNA tests have opened my eyes to who I really am and I'm enjoying this journey. 😎

      Many African or Caribbean people have almond shape eyes.I am French Carribean and have almond shape eyes and so does my daughter and my sisters and grandfather also so I was convinced I might have some east Asian blood somewhere and it turn out that my 78% African,mainly from Nigeria and 15% from Ireland,4% eastern européen,and 3% from Middle East so where is the East Asian blood???Almond shape eyes doesn’t always equates to having East Asian blood.
