I never thought of him as underrated. Media (television) just downplayed Candyman for quite some time which might make people think he's underrated. In actuality, Candyman is more frightening than Jason, Freddy, Ghostface and some others in my opinion and Candyman has a deeper message and more layered story than many other slasher films, which is awesome.

The first time I met him was at a con. It was 2 weeks after his brother died. He said my hubby reminded him of his brother so the whole con he called my hubby Dante! We spent the whole day with him and then went to dinner. He is amazing!!!! We have met him a few times since. Everytime he comes to town we go see him. Treasured moments!
