@@valerianmandrakethat little trait (military doctor) is pretty much the only thing he and Watson (his inspiration) have in common. Unlike the popular misconception that he is a bumbling fool (which came from Nigel Bruce’s interpretation in the 30’s-50’s), Watson is an intelligent man. Granted, Holmes can still think circles around him, but he’s obviously smart, otherwise Holmes wouldn’t have given him the time of day. Funnily enough, around the time “The Great Mouse Detective” was released, Granada TV in the UK was doing their own adaptation of Sherlock Holmes which were faithful to the source material. One of the things they revamped was the characterization of Watson, making him more like his literary counterpart, thanks to David Burke and Edward Hardwicke’s performances against Jeremy Brett’s Holmes.

I swear this was the first horror movie I ever watched, when I was like 4. I mean... the crazy jump scares with Fidget the bat, the super creepy looking dolls, the evil clowns ?!? "Annabelle" vibes? Now as an adult I like horror films and thrillers. Makes total sense :D
This is one of my favorite scenes from Disney's "The Great Mouse Detective" which is also one of my favorite animated Disney movies too, and I have this movie on both VHS and DVD! The VHS copy of the movie that I have is actually the 1999 release which contained a game sheet inside for a contest at the time even though I didn't really get to take part in that particular contest, and the DVD copy that I have is the Mystery in the Mist Edition DVD which was released in 2010.
I'm not scared of clowns, but those ones are pretty freaky. Their faces look rather sinister. Plus, like a lot of background objects in this movie, they're not very well animated.
The aerial shot of the chessboard does indeed show checkmate in one move with the rook. But the close up shot shows the pieces in a different arrangement.

When Katie’s thoughts 💭 of Dennis soon disappears when the mice civilians of mousedom applauded when the curtains rose from the floor of the theater 🎭 and the sound of the musicians began to play and Basil remained composed as he waited eagerly for the music 🎶 to play and Katie smiled softly and focused on the orchestra in front of them when a familiar piece began to play the smooth and crisp sounds of strings of violin’s 🎻 harps flutes trumpets 🎺 bassoons and drums 🥁 playing strongly Katie closed her eyes and began to imagine of herself on sage with the civilian mice applauded to her and the tune of the melody 🎵 of symphony from Disney’s fantasia Katie began to dance like a ballerina 🩰 then came on stage was Basil wearing a black and white dancing suit and Katie was wearing a pink and white dress they danced along together and then they heard of the civilian mice cheered and applauded and they throw flowers 💐 and roses 🌹 and Basil and Katie bowed 🙇♀️ and looked each other’s eyes then Basil took Katie in his arms and going to kiss 💋 her then Katie’s thoughts 💭 were interrupted when Basil shook her and Katie opened her eyes Basil:Katie? Are you alright? Katie:huh…oh…um…yeah Basil I’m fine…just fine while she played her hair and Basil smiled at her then at the end of the performance Basil Katie and the mice civilian’s crowd standing ovation 👏 in applauded to the many musicians before them ❤️
When the carriage ride was quite as Basil sat nervously beside Katie before leaving Baker Street but it doesn’t bother Katie that she loves enjoy the ride and the beautiful view and Basil starts to talk Basil:y-um you look beautiful Katie. Katie:oh Basil thank you you are so sweet I’ve never heard you said that to me was so sweet and you look very handsome Basil was blushed Basil:oh thank you katie then the carriage came to a stop at the theater 🎭 and Katie watched Basil stepped out of the carriage and helped Katie out of the carriage with his hand out towards her Basil:shall we? Enormously underrated, The Great Mouse Detective ought to be ranked alongside the most feted classics of Disney’s late ‘80s/ early ‘90s renaissance. In fact, were it not for how the movie was sandwiched between two of the company’s biggest ever duds (namely The Black Cauldron and Oliver and Company), this rodent reimagining of Sherlock Holmes would likely be attributed with kicking off the comeback era. As it stands though, it is too often dismissed as being merely ‘’the best of a bad bunch’ from the forsaken dark age, for The Great Mouse Detective i'm not here to Speaking about the Whole Plot or the Villains but a Particular Location Which one of Us Remain Stuck in his Childhood Fears the Toy Shop!, Toy-Themed Location was Threated in a Menacing Way and Sometimes not in Some Media Such The Santa's Toy Factory in James Pond 2 Codename Robocod for the Whimsical Side or the Toy Store from Silent Hill that is the Horror Side as one of Few Videogames Location but What About Toy-Centric Locations in Animated Films Such this Little Masterpiece Called TGMD?. Which is a shame, because fans who skip out on TGMD are missing out on a thoroughly charming adventure that boasts an enthralling mystery, a terrific line-up of dastardly villains and, yes, some extremely troubling moments. One such highlight occurs when a kidnapping investigation (Which is the Case of a Anxious Bat Stealing some of Objects Listened in the Questionarie Dealed by Ratingan, Thus Marking With a Pencil Inside in his Membranous Pocket, Without Waste is Time for the Brithish Honoration.) leads our murine sleuth to a creepy toy store, For the Beginning It's start with a Wood Parapet With a Series of Round Windows Washer, Basil Finding a Small Perforated Window Washer to Open and got inside in the Store While Dawson Closed Silently with a Cracking Sounds, and that's the atmosphere of this Toy Shop recalls the artefact room from The Conjuring. Like that occult museum, the shelves of this emporium are Surrounded With Partial Lighting and adorned with terrifying playthings. There are giggling jack in the boxes; marionettes dressed as unnerving clowns; maniacal rocking horses that sport rictus grins; a pig-nosed doll who appears to be trying to grab Dawson and wind-up beefeaters that have been stripped of their clockwork. Not to mention a pot doll that manages to keep on moving, despite being fractured into a dozen pieces. As if these Stationary Monster designs weren’t disturbing enough, the construction of the sequence itself is textbook horror. First, it ratchets up the tension with eerie music, atmospheric Darkness, and disquieting noises. Then, it turns the screws on you further, by introducing a line-up of ominous toys, some of which could leap into motion at any second, and others that are simply red herrings. Finally, it all culminates in a meticulously orchestrated jump scare that will catch even the parents off guard. James Wan himself couldn’t have done it better!. in the Nightmare Fuel Page of TV Tropes the Clowns Marionettes are present but Look at a Deep Analysis about this Picture. Apparently, research suggests that children are frightened by clowns, or generally dislike them. Interestingly, in 1986, the same year GMD was released, Stephen King's horror novel "It" was published, which centres on children being attacked by a menacing shape-shifting entity primarily in the form of a clown. One explanation for people's fear of clowns is that they are typically scared by things which are 'wrong' in a disturbingly unfamiliar way. The face of a clown is similar to a human face, however, it is only a mask, and incessantly bears a comical/smiling expression, which is unnatural and therefore, scary. The colours of the three clowns in GMD are red, white, and black, a combination often used to convey some kind of evil/menace (and they are the colours used for Ratigan's attire). Moreover, they remind of the commonly depicted features of a corpse, and suggest that there is some kind of "monster in the closet". Also, clown outfits are usually grotesque and not aesthetically appealing to most. Generally, it is interesting that the really scary surprise happens when the focus is on cute, harmless-looking toys, but that before this, we see the creepy toys, as though their only function is to hint at the fact that something bad is going to happen, apart from just being "there". It is a toy shop after all, but personally I find that it seems hardly unintentional that the toys were designed to look so disturbing at first when one thinks nothing is wrong. The sequence demonstrates that not even toys are all safe, for there may be danger lurking behind the cute/pretty surface. the Only thing that disappointed me the most during the end of the adventure in the toy shop is the sky that can be seen from afar suggests that it is twilight time rather than full night which makes you think that oh well the experience I had was less scary than you might imagine, if London surrounded by the smoke of the Chimneys makes it seem like night When you Look up isn't. we hope for a possible remake of the film to catch it on a darkest night. However The Great Mouse detective and The backgrounds too are very appealing to me, mostly due to their unpretentious, very painterly quality. With a relatively small budget and work schedule, it feels like these backgrounds were done fairly quickly and economically, yet I think it's to their benefit. The backgrounds from "Beauty and the Beast" a few years later were far more elaborate in their rendering, but started to drift too far towards photographic realism, in my opinion. In contrast, look at how spare the rendering is on those paintbrushes in Flaversham's cupboard - beautiful in their cartoony graphicness! If I have one complaint, it's that I felt they went a bit crazy at times with the airbrush, sometimes softening and washing out too much of the painterly texture for my liking, These Stuffs are More Charming Compared To the Digital Painting that destroyed the Manual Art Today.

Katie goes first but she has an idea 💡 she asked Olivia to hop on her back and then use her shawl and tided around her and telling her to hold on tight Katie:hold tight Olivia. Olivia:okay Katie And then she holds out her arms and gives him a kindness look on her face and held out his arms then Katie jumps and lost her footing but Basil caught her just in time and pulled her towards him and she hugged him ( like jasmine and Aladdin from Disney’s Aladdin) as she looked at him and he looked at her there heart’s ❤️ began to pumping like drums 🥁 when Katie’s checks and Basil’s checks are turning red. Katie: Olivia Don’t touch anything we gotta find that creep fidget and put him behind bars. Dawson: now Olivia dear stay close Basil: come with me miss Katie. Katie: right behind you Basil.From above fidget watches the group move across the chessboard Basil pauses by the rock Basil: hmm. As he was about to push the rock over Katie speedly pushed it over by one space Katie: checkmate. Basil stares at Katie amazed Basil:(in awe) you really astound me my dear.Katie:(giggles and blushes)thank you Basil. As she was and walked past him and she stopped and looked over shoulder with such kind beautiful eyes Basil:what’s wrong?Katie: call me by my first name. Basil was humming to himself as he inspects the ledge a while katie was looking around the sky and then she looks at the window looking so beautiful in her pink dress and a red and white coat (which is belle where’s the coat from Disney’s beauty and the beast) as Katie looks at herself reflection fixing her hair and her pink dress then she saw a small tiny hole in the center of the round window she call’s Basil triumphantly! Katie: Basil! look what i found! Basil: well done miss Katie here is our friend’s entrance. Katie: but Basil he’s a bat how could he fit through such a little tiny. Basil takes Katie hand. Basil:observe, my dear. Basil sticks one of Katie’s fingers into the hole and he watches confidently as Katie pulls her hand back displaying that fidget has used the window as a door. Katie: Basil you astound me
As Basil said that Katie reaches her bag loads of protective stuff and brings out her softball bat and begins to swing with it Basil: um miss Katie what is that? Katie: is my softball 🥎 ⚾️ bat Basil I’m using my softball 🥎 ⚾️ bat to whack fidget on the head Basil was amazed Basil: wow! Katie: yeah wow and I’m the softball champion of softball 🥎 championship games of sports in special Olympics! Basil Olivia and Dawson stares at her confused Basil: what’s special Olympics? Katie: is the sports event where every athletes joined up the special Olympic game’s and competition the challenges of the special Olympics and win the gold medal 🥇 and in my head it’s not about winning or losing it’s about fun and I’ve won so many gold medals 🏅 for been a great sport. As Katie finished her special Olympics speech she noticed that fidget was lurking around the store she clunges her bat and ready for action Katie: fidget might be here everyone so come on let’s roll! As Basil stealthily moves between the toys and through the shadows Katie following his lead Dawson and Olivia stay close behind they start to climb the ladder leading them into a higher shelf

After getting inside Dawson closes the window inside they walk through the store Dawson doesn’t look where he was going and bumps into something Dawson: ooh i beg your pardon i- Dawson stops when he sees that what he hit was a huge doll. He and Olivia look around the toy store. Dawson: oh my upon my word I’ve never seen so many toys Basil: behind any of witch could lurk a bloodthirsty assassin! So please doctor...be very careful
When Katie hears Toby growling at Dawson again she walks over to him katie: Toby! Doctor Dawson is our friend he is your friend too so no growling no no! No growling no growling Toby knew that she was right so he gives Dawson a deliberate sinff and makes him tumbling head over heels hitting Basil. Katie rushes over to Dawson and helping him up. Toby remains standing Basil marches down the window still and stands in front of Toby and speaking strictly that time Basil: Toby...sit. Katie: sit Toby. Unlike the popular misconception that he is a bumbling fool (which came from Nigel Bruce’s interpretation in the 30’s-50’s), Watson is an intelligent man. Granted, Holmes can still think circles around him, but he’s obviously smart, otherwise Holmes wouldn’t have given him the time of day.
Funnily enough, around the time “The Great Mouse Detective” was released, Granada TV in the UK was doing their own adaptation of Sherlock Holmes which were faithful to the source material. One of the things they revamped was the characterization of Watson, making him more like his literary counterpart, thanks to David Burke and Edward Hardwicke’s performances against Jeremy Brett’s Holmes.

This is one of my favorite scenes from Disney's "The Great Mouse Detective" which is also one of my favorite animated Disney movies too, and I have this movie on both VHS and DVD! The VHS copy of the movie that I have is actually the 1999 release which contained a game sheet inside for a contest at the time even though I didn't really get to take part in that particular contest, and the DVD copy that I have is the Mystery in the Mist Edition DVD which was released in 2010.

In fact, were it not for how the movie was sandwiched between two of the company’s biggest ever duds (namely The Black Cauldron and Oliver and Company), this rodent reimagining of Sherlock Holmes would likely be attributed with kicking off the comeback era. As it stands though, it is too often dismissed as being merely ‘’the best of a bad bunch’ from the forsaken dark age, for The Great Mouse Detective i'm not here to Speaking about the Whole Plot or the Villains but a Particular Location Which one of Us Remain Stuck in his Childhood Fears the Toy Shop!, Toy-Themed Location was Threated in a Menacing Way and Sometimes not in Some Media Such The Santa's Toy Factory in James Pond 2 Codename Robocod for the Whimsical Side or the Toy Store from Silent Hill that is the Horror Side as one of Few Videogames Location but What About Toy-Centric Locations in Animated Films Such this Little Masterpiece Called TGMD?.
Which is a shame, because fans who skip out on TGMD are missing out on a thoroughly charming adventure that boasts an enthralling mystery, a terrific line-up of dastardly villains and, yes, some extremely troubling moments. One such highlight occurs when a kidnapping investigation (Which is the Case of a Anxious Bat Stealing some of Objects Listened in the Questionarie Dealed by Ratingan, Thus Marking With a Pencil Inside in his Membranous Pocket, Without Waste is Time for the Brithish Honoration.) leads our murine sleuth to a creepy toy store, For the Beginning It's start with a Wood Parapet With a Series of Round Windows Washer, Basil Finding a Small Perforated Window Washer to Open and got inside in the Store While Dawson Closed Silently with a Cracking Sounds, and that's the atmosphere of this Toy Shop recalls the artefact room from The Conjuring. Like that occult museum, the shelves of this emporium are Surrounded With Partial Lighting and adorned with terrifying playthings. There are giggling jack in the boxes; marionettes dressed as unnerving clowns; maniacal rocking horses that sport rictus grins; a pig-nosed doll who appears to be trying to grab Dawson and wind-up beefeaters that have been stripped of their clockwork. Not to mention a pot doll that manages to keep on moving, despite being fractured into a dozen pieces.
As if these Stationary Monster designs weren’t disturbing enough, the construction of the sequence itself is textbook horror. First, it ratchets up the tension with eerie music, atmospheric Darkness, and disquieting noises. Then, it turns the screws on you further, by introducing a line-up of ominous toys, some of which could leap into motion at any second, and others that are simply red herrings. Finally, it all culminates in a meticulously orchestrated jump scare that will catch even the parents off guard. James Wan himself couldn’t have done it better!.

Apparently, research suggests that children are frightened by clowns, or generally dislike them. Interestingly, in 1986, the same year GMD was released, Stephen King's horror novel "It" was published, which centres on children being attacked by a menacing shape-shifting entity primarily in the form of a clown. One explanation for people's fear of clowns is that they are typically scared by things which are 'wrong' in a disturbingly unfamiliar way. The face of a clown is similar to a human face, however, it is only a mask, and incessantly bears a comical/smiling expression, which is unnatural and therefore, scary. The colours of the three clowns in GMD are red, white, and black, a combination often used to convey some kind of evil/menace (and they are the colours used for Ratigan's attire). Moreover, they remind of the commonly depicted features of a corpse, and suggest that there is some kind of "monster in the closet". Also, clown outfits are usually grotesque and not aesthetically appealing to most.
Generally, it is interesting that the really scary surprise happens when the focus is on cute, harmless-looking toys, but that before this, we see the creepy toys, as though their only function is to hint at the fact that something bad is going to happen, apart from just being "there". It is a toy shop after all, but personally I find that it seems hardly unintentional that the toys were designed to look so disturbing at first when one thinks nothing is wrong. The sequence demonstrates that not even toys are all safe, for there may be danger lurking behind the cute/pretty surface.
the Only thing that disappointed me the most during the end of the adventure in the toy shop is the sky that can be seen from afar suggests that it is twilight time rather than full night which makes you think that oh well the experience I had was less scary than you might imagine, if London surrounded by the smoke of the Chimneys makes it seem like night When you Look up isn't. we hope for a possible remake of the film to catch it on a darkest night.
However The Great Mouse detective and The backgrounds too are very appealing to me, mostly due to their unpretentious, very painterly quality. With a relatively small budget and work schedule, it feels like these backgrounds were done fairly quickly and economically, yet I think it's to their benefit. The backgrounds from "Beauty and the Beast" a few years later were far more elaborate in their rendering, but started to drift too far towards photographic realism, in my opinion. In contrast, look at how spare the rendering is on those paintbrushes in Flaversham's cupboard - beautiful in their cartoony graphicness! If I have one complaint, it's that I felt they went a bit crazy at times with the airbrush, sometimes softening and washing out too much of the painterly texture for my liking, These Stuffs are More Charming Compared To the Digital Painting that destroyed the Manual Art Today.

Katie: is the sports event where every athletes joined up the special Olympic game’s and competition the challenges of the special Olympics and win the gold medal 🥇 and in my head it’s not about winning or losing it’s about fun and I’ve won so many gold medals 🏅 for been a great sport.
