Here in Florida most all safety glasses will fog up, but I finally found a quality pair of shades that will last at least a year, never fog up, and are ANZI rated. As a climber, I am very rough on all my equipment so it was either buy 12 or more cheap pairs throughout the year or one awesome pair. Heat wave visual. Check it out.
I really like safety chainsaw chain, as it gives my nail on the wall in my shop something to hold. YUK YUK! Safety is importantant, and your tips are good advice.
I have people give me chains they randomly find in their garage or shed sometimes, I never turn down a free chain, but safety chains get used for flush cutting stumps.
I had chaps that I never wore, I don't like the tight belt around my guts when cutting. I sold them and bought some bib and brace safety overalls instead, looking forward to using them as I have been slack with my safety equipment. I have cut into 2 pair of pants without pruning myself fortunately.
Hi Smitty!!😀😀 The first safety chain you showed us isn't too bad. They take the aggressiveness out of the tip but still let you cut with it. The last safety chain you showed us I will not even consider using because you virtually can't cut with the tip at all. I have really never used safety chains at all in the 45 years I have been cutting. So all a safety chain does is annoy me when I'm cutting. Thanks Doug for helping Smitty out with all the cool gifts!!😀😀 Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al
I am certain it would annoy the likes of you. I feel the inexperienced cutter should hear the benefits of using a safety chain. I will probably continue to endorse the safety especially for the inexperienced cutter in the future.
I use that safety chain( which is tri link ) on all of my shorts bar saws. Cuts well and havent had a serious kickback in quite a while. I've had a pretty bad accident using a stihl top handle at work and it happens fast. Definitely be careful with top handle and no chainbreak short bar combos. It is a serious accident a lot of the time. Good information in this video.
Glad I saw this. I just filed down those "protruders". And I'm a beginner who thinks beer and powertools go together. Which is stupid. I need a scare from time to time. Great upload, thx!
Good evening Sir, It is the very first time that I learn about a safety chains and very good explanation on how it work 👍😉 I should put it on my Homelite super mini's since I do not have Chain block handle 😉👍 and I totally agree with you on all your statesman 👍😉 You have a great friend ( Dug ) 👍👍👍 Great pressure testing unit 👍😉 Yes safety first Sir, wearing the basic ( safety glasses, gloves, hear plugs and safety pants you will be in business 👍😉 ) So we can enjoy all you video's for a very long time 😉👍 Cheers !!!
Awesome topic Smitty,I have a set of Stihl chaps in mint shape.I never use them, but I am going to now. When I'm buying chain I want the most aggressive chain I can get,I never consider safety.Another point is getting to aggressive on the rakers,it seems to make the saw jumpy. Please send Doug my address.Lol
i think chaps are good when your first learning to run saws but i think they might give some people a false sense of security i make my boy wear them that and a semi chisel safety chain but hes only 6
Two edged sword. Most leg contact accidents are because of dull chain or safety chain.Folks are pushing because the safety chain (or dull chain) just aint cutting fast enough.
I have been looking far and wide for an actual physical demonstration on how low kickback chains work. Very helpful video. I appreciate it!

I like that!! Nails need something to do the same as everything else.

It’s one of those lessons that you don’t really get a second chance if you know what I mean!

When you get comfortable is usually when you have an accident. I think chaps or no chaps people with end up with a false sense of security.
What is the best strongest cutting safety chain do you recommend?? For 20 inch bar?
Oregon makes some of the best chain.
I think it's Carlton 3/8 safety chain.
That is quite possible!
Thanks Doug! Lol
That is Tri-link chain.
Yes! I agree! Thanks Doug!
I want speed man weres that 50 shot of nitrous on that plunge cut .no in truth thats b horrible to get it in the face or tallay wacker
Speed it cool! Especially when it can take a leg off even faster! LOL!

Dull chains do more damage than anything!
