    i love how if the lyrics said “he” and “him” y’all would treat it like
    it’s a romantic/sexual song but now that they are “she” and “her” y’all
    don’t want it to be romantic/sexual. internalized homophobia

    • @loginssuckx3
      @loginssuckx3 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      It's so explicitly romantic/sexual. It's a story of a lesbian with internalized homophobia who is having really great sex with her girlfriend but feels like she is sinning. Her old "pure" self must die and she must be reborn as a "baby lesbian", which happens at the end. The purple, the rainbow lighting, the near-kiss, the lyrics, it's all reinforcing.

    • @Lyverah
      @Lyverah ปีที่แล้ว

      @@loginssuckx3 well I don't think so.. Looks more like a story where you can't stand the evil's temptation and touch something you shouldn't touch (for example like a drug), and then you become impoverished but get to pursue pleasure at the same time. The music video also shows an apple maybe representing temptation (the forbidden fruit). Miyeon appears as an image of an angel high in the sky, Sujin appears as an image of a devil at the bottom, Yuqi is the one trying to get away from the temptation, and Soyeon and Minnie appear as people who are already exhausted and follow the devil. I can’t believe how people interpret this deep story THAT way

    • @bisexualdouma
      @bisexualdouma 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@Lyverah so... you understand that this is an interpretation, but then you imply how you don't like it e.g. "I can't believe how people interpret this deep story THAT way"? we're just pointing out that forbidden motif (as yours does too), and connecting the two dots. why in the verses and the chorus does it say her/she so much? and if you don't like how we interpret the song *THIS* way, then that's okay because it's an interpretation, just as yours is too. neither of us should be 100% fully correct (again, because it's up to us to interpret), so there.. shouldn't be an issue?

    I feel like Yuqi is wavering between the ‘heaven’ and ‘hell’. She keeps looking back and at first is looking pure. But then she falls to the floor when we can see the transition between her and Miyeon. When she appears for the second time, she has the red makeup on her eyes and is seen falling somewhere dark and deep. There is also a burning flower between the shots which might symbolize tainting the ‘pure’ flower just like Yuqi is turned to the ‘dark’ that might be Soojin (similar red makeup although more subtle). Maybe she ‘fell’ from the ‘heaven’ and yield to Soojin like Soyeon and Miyeon. Shuhua also seem to be falling to the ‘bad’ side since we see Soojin tempting her.

    • @inferiorinferno8859
      @inferiorinferno8859 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Well, that's basically the fairies. There is a biblical explanation behind them, with fairies originally having been angels who were doubting wether they should follow God or the devil. Because they were in the middle ground, neither heaven or hell became their home and they were forced to live on Earth for all eternity as a punishment for not chosing a side. With the burning flower imagery, Yuqi just might as well be the biblical versio of fairies.
      Miyeon never really seems to become darker though and I think she is supposed to be God, and the dancers below are the lowest ranking angels, and the scene of these danccers dragging Minnie away might be Miyeon/God's decision to cast them out.
      Soojin seems like she's the devil, and in the Bible the devil was originally the highest ranking angel there was, but there were more high ranking angels other then Lucifer who fell. I think that's Soyeon and Shuhua as Shuhua is only shown with Soojin and with the same barbed wire as Soyeon. So they are both high ranking anggels with Shuhua resistng, but considering she morphs into Soyeon, it shows that she will end up giving in like Soyeon already did.
      I think Minnie is corrupted by Soyeon, rather then Soojin though, considering she is mostly seen with Soyeon and she's looking at Yuqi (who is doubting which side to choose).
      I also think the mud is actually their crashingg spot after hell, and the dancers on the ground, circling around Soyeon is supposed to represent the circles of hell, which is their new home.

    • @chothepabo6029
      @chothepabo6029 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@inferiorinferno8859 4:11 you can also see Miyeon getting seduced by Soojin so even she's not pure anymore. Moreover I feel the music video ends in a sense of confusion, where everything becomes distorted and you really can't say what is good and what is evil. Basically, it just distorts the fine line between good and evil.

    currently theories are split in two directions:
    1. religious theme, but with giving in to a demon (Lilith specifically) [not too familiar with that, if you know, then you could elaborate the evidence in the replies!]
    2. religious themes but with a twist; since the song goes "oh my god, she showed me all the stars, oh my god, she took me to the sky" with the rest of the lyrics being very much about love, sensual and passionate, it's about lesbian love and how it is percieved as a 'sin' (with the white turning all red, the colour of love, passion and so on) and the m/v generally having themes of members falling for each other and giving in to their desires. also the phrase "ab imo pectore" means "from the bottom of my heart", which hints to that as well; also there seem to be hints of a 'god is a woman' kind of religion in the m/v
    no matter what the meaning actually is, the girls slayed and put out something very unique. 10/10.
    edit: with this getting popular I would like to say that y'all should not!!! get aggressive and mean to each other in the replies. let's be respectful of each others' theories and opinions !

    "This song leaves me wanting more" is exactly how I felt with the song. The beginning was incredibly dramatic, but there wasn't a smooth enough transition to the 1st verse, which by comparison is much more typical of G-Idle's usual sound. My favorite part (other than the intro) was the pre-chorus, but the song doesn't really have a real bridge or any sort of impactful climax? It just goes straight from Shuhua's part straight into the last chorus with barely any difference, and then just *ends*. It didn't feel like the song actually went anywhere, and I *so* badly wanted to like this comeback, especially with the concept and the GAY

    Theory: Soyeon is an angel along with Minnie but Soyeon choses to leave “heaven” where as Minnie was tempted and was dragged out of heaven.Shuaha and miyeon are deties or goddesses who are evangelical and don’t seem likely to “fall”.Sojin is the “devil” who influences soyeon and also tries to tempt Shuaha at 4:42 this could link to how they were both behind barb wire to symbolise purgatory. In the end we see Minnie and soyeon in red mud/blood showing how they fell to the lowest level of hell or they bathed in blood.Yuqi can be seen as someone who watches from afar and that’s why we see here behind the windows watching everything go down but she drops the wine which could symbolise how soyeon is now the devil and is beginning to tempt yuqi and at 2:58 she’s almost in control of hell herself as we see her dance with the creatures but sojin is the “original sin” and could be the silhouette that soyeon reaches out for again showing how she was tempted 4:40 .Finally Minnie returns to the white room “heaven” but with black arms and black writing written on her face showing how she’s tainted. This could all happen because Sojin (the devil) wanted revenge as she was imprisoned at 3:17 and revenge is turning all the angels evil or the other cause of all this could be because they ate the white apple(forbidden fruit) and are being kicked out of heaven one by by like the story of Adam and Eve.

    so you guys know how pd says that it “leaves you wanting more”? like there should be a sequel to it?
    i personally think that it’s fitting with the lyrics. the song seems to repeat melodies and lyrics, almost like a siren’s lilting voice, repeating over and over again to persuade you into something. that’s the temptation part of the lyrics, where they are drawn to “her” and hence fall in a caged love.
    this cycle is endless, constantly repeating itself as well, as you fall in love again and again and even after getting hurt, you can’t bring yourself to fall out of love.
    the song seems to almost loop with itself, bringing everything back to full circle. like there’s a melody that extends until the chorus and then rewinds itself back until it’s back at the start, which now becomes the end.
    it’s being confused by toxic love, not know where’s the start and where’s the end, but being so intoxicated by “her” that you don’t care to get out, but rather be caught up in this endless cycle of pain and lust
    the message is even more clearly conveyed in the english version, talking about how one is like poison but tastes like honey, hinting at the dangerous characteristics hidden behind an overwhelmingly sweet and beautiful face.
    even in the korean version, talks of how they know “she” is dangerous, but still, they let “her” in because they’re so hypnotized by “her” beauty
    the chorus, being “oh my god she took me to the sky” and then that part about the stars, could be referencing to sexual pleasure, which a lot of people run to when they need to distract themselves or make them forget about something.
    this is just my own thought, but as soojin strongly resembles the feminine character they talk about in this song, that dying her hair this color was a way to separate her from the others as well as, once again, show the nature of a toxic person behind a sweet exterior. a lot of people think of blonde as an angel-like color, with yellow shining halos and white gowns. yet, here soojin is, with her sleek, sexy black dresses, playing the role of a dangerously alluring siren.
    very quickly after soojin’s little melody, where she stars in the black dress shown, it shows another picture, very quickly, almost flickering, of soojin in a more innocent background with white frills, which leads me to believe that one scene is of her true self, dark and dangerous, while the quick flicker is of what everyone else sees of her, the sweet and alluring part.
    when soyeon briefly compares this painful love to a “sugar-coated drug”, it also makes me think that another meaning of the song could be about drugs. how people run to drugs to forget about something, only to be trapped into it, never escaping from it’s grasps. as we know, drugs make you lose sense of yourself and time, you forget. there are too many meanings that could be shown here.
    then, soyeon says “if this is a sin, then i’ll pay the piper”, which seems like she doesn’t realize the sinful presence behind the sweet mask that “she” is, but even if it is bad for her, she’s so stuck that she will pay the price anyways
    where there’s the latin, it means something like “sincerely”, or “with deepest affections”, which can go 2 ways. one, is that the people that “she” lures in are so sincerely in love with her, or that “she” pretends to say that she loves them too. since this appears right after shuhua’s verse, and a screen is displayed of innocent shuhua in all white, having the phrase whispered to her by soojin. maybe “she” is pretending to also love them so that she can have what she wants, even if she doesn’t mean it
    in the very end, minnie is shown almost falling into the dust. maybe losing herself from this toxic love?
    all of this ties together, the repeating lyrics, the style of the song, the video, the lyrical meanings, the video. it’s an absolute masterpiece, conveying a whole story of pain and love in a simple few minutes.

    theory time:
    soojin is the representation of lust, like a demon. she drawns soyeon and minnie to herself, making them go crazy because she's is a woman and to them, this is wrong (the feminine pronouns during the chorus and soyeon's rap, they're the only ones to sing it). soyeon ends up being taken away and killed for sinning, being sent to hell (the mud and the hands grabbing her representing the purgatory), minnie kills herself by shooting herself in the head (the scene where she makes a finger gun and shoots herself, followed by a scene where dark fluids flood the floor around her), her sins being shown as her clothes get stained and her hands get black such as the demons pulling soyeon and goes to hell as well, joining soyeon in the purgatory (the last mud scene)

    • @anacoronado6410
      @anacoronado6410 4 ปีที่แล้ว +76

      I think the mud scene represents the falling of an angel. Soyeon was an angel first but fell over Soojin's temptation, we know that because of the white and black scene that looks like a flashback. Minnie, in the other hand, is in the process of falling and her final transformation and scene in the mud.
      Also, Soojin and Miyeon's stages are the same but from different perspective. Miyeon is above and the dancers on the floor, which may represent her being a deity or an angel, while the dancers are the demons underneath. Then later we see Soojin with the demons, wich may represent her bein the "demon queen".

    This is probably a controversial statement but I hope fairness never becomes the leading motivation behind line distribution. It should be about what sounds best. Yuqi’s high range with her deep voice is often used in their pre-choruses to give urgency and momentum before the chorus. I honestly don’t know if she can do falsetto. I think each member’s voice fits the story of the part they sing. Also Yuqi said in a recent interview that they all chose the line distribution together. Oh My God distribution to me seems average. Dun Dun and So What seems much less balance(No hate. I love Loona and Everglow). Lion was about as balanced as it gets. Shuhua has always had less lines per HER OWN REQUEST.

      Brit Ling Yeah, it’s always funny to me how people like to talk about who’s “era” it was for each comeback but they get upset about a certain member having too much or too little. If someone can slay an era and it suits them then should they not be given preference. In OMG’s case, Soojin fit the devil storyline perfectly, so it makes sense to me that she would get all of the devil parts. But yes, I agree. I hope we see more songs in the future that fit each member in a more balanced way. I know they can do it: Lion is a great example.

    Here’s a theory from me: Soojin represents someones inner demon that’s both worshipped but also not wanted, Soyeon had already gave in from the start, while Minnie and Yuqi didn’t, yet. Miyeon represents the goddess or ig the good side inside someone, she never really hits the ground like others. Yuqi is tempted by Soojin in the start and then we see her give in too. Minnie also gives in but in a more prisoner kinda way. This all came to me from her scene with Shuhua; Soojin whispers to Shuhua and Shuhua gives in to her inner demon becoming Soyeon, who is a demon.

    My theory is that Soyeon is a devil (bc of how comfortable, cunning, bloodthirsty she acts), Yuqi is an angel that went to Miyeon (goddess) for help. We can see a dark, eery flashback from Yuqi when she saw Soojin (satan, can tell bc second flashback shows her blonde hair) in power with Soyeon (bc short hair) looking up at her. Miyeon exposes the poison and tells Yuqi she must overcome the temptation but in the process she gets affected by it (red marks on her face). Soojin is Satan, she’s commanding, powerful, and outstandingly cunning (blonde). She holds a white apple, like disguised temptation (forbidden fruit). Shuhua is an archangel (she has power, lyrics say she covered the skies to lure people to her power), and she gets corrupted by Soojin (Soojin whispers to her and she changes into Soyeon, a devil). Minnie is a fallen angel that got trapped into Hell with Soojin, and she so desperately wants to get out (always trying to escape/end her suffering unlike Soyeon). In the end, both Soyeon and Minnie are punished, Soyeon still embraces it but Minnie suffers, tainted forever (tattooed face, black on her clothing). EDIT: Soojin could also totally be Lilith, since she represents everything opposite of Eve and could’ve been Lucifer’s first woman (correct me if I’m wrong!)

      I totally agree with you, but I Neverlands are so protective (as they should be) that you can't really criticise the line distribution without being called a soyeon-anti. Shuhua's korean has been massively improving so she can finally have some parts, but for me she's been kind of relegated to the "bridge queen" position (her part here was the same as in Lion with a similar key). I think the main issue is that since G-idle like to experience a lot, they inverted too much their positions and a main vocalist like Miyeon finds herself with less than half Soyeon's lines which is crazy. The Characters
    SOYEON: LILITH
    SOOJIN: THE DEVIL
    MINNIE: EVE
    MIYEON: GOD
    SHUHUA AND YUQI: FALLEN ANGELS
    Theory: Soojin is the Devil. Her makeup, costume, and platform where she sits depicts her as a dark and eerie being. She was seen holding an apple, where in the bible, the Devil used it to tempt Eve. In a way, the chorus, was like a song to her. It depicted her ways of temptation.
    Soyeon is Lilith, as she was portrayed in scenes in Hell and she was close and praising the Devil (Soojin).
    Minnie (Eve) was being dragged in the beginning like she was being thrown in to the asylum-like white set which symbolizes the wastelands outside the Garden of Eden. Soyeon (Lilith) was also seen here, suffering the same fate after she refuses to obey Adam. The clothes she is wearing will gradually change, from being clean to being tainted or "corrupted" in the end, symbolizing the temptation of Soojin. Also she was seen in the mud, or Hell. The people dancing around Minnie symbolizes that temptation.
    Miyeon is God. The platform she was sitting on was surrounded by clouds and lights, and her face was full of sparkling diamond make up to make her appear divine. You can also see how her platform was higher than Soojin, meaning she sits in a higher position than the Devil.
    Yuqi and Shuhua are angels that served Miyeon, however, they were tempted and corrupted by Soojin, as you can see in Yuqi falling in to the void and Shuhua turning into Soyeon (Lilith).
    Very deep video and very good execution. Proud of my girls tohave come up with this work of art. 12/10

    here's my theory on the mv (written at 3am, mind my english)
    -miyeon : the protagonist, the god/goddess, the almighty (being on the higher pedestal and soojin on the lower one) (or maybe the only one who didnt fall for soojin)
    -soojin : the antagonist, the devil, seducing her "preys" by pretending to be good, soojin true self is always wearing black, but she changed into her white outfit when she was with shuhua, there's a scene where she is wearing white and the lighting changes onto different colors means she's able to manipulate and cover her true self to allure her preys, she's also holding a white apple
    -soyeon : already fell for soojin's charm, the mud scene and being surrounded by soojin's followers shows that she can't escape hell anymore even if she wanted to, if the member that was floating in the air was miyeon doing the hand pose (fans suspected miyeon was the one doing that pose in the concepts image) and soyeon lookin at her that probably means soyeon is still hoping there's a way to escape hell and go back to miyeon but it seem very far/impossible, if that's soojin like pd said that means soyeon will always be unde soojin's control
    -minnie : already had the taste of the sin too (showered by wine/blood) but in denial, she dont wanna become like soyeon, she's trying to escape from soojin's followers tempt, but in the end she failed, her hands became black, there're words that soojin whispered to shuhua painted on minnies face, and at the end she finally became like soyeon and trapped in hell
    -yuqi : she's confused, but enjoying the tempt at the same time, she was in paradise-like place (probably heaven) she's lurking around that place wanting more of that pleasure but also seeking for enlightenment (looking out the window/fence), and thats why theres a lantern between hers and miyeon scene, bcs only miyeon is the answer/ the only one who can save her, and then miyeon showed her "the consequence" of that sin by dropping her wine goblet(?) and showed what soyeon has became, but yuqi still ended up falling for soojin (symbolise by her falling, and the red eye make up in her 2nd scene)
    -shuhua : she's the purest out of the 4 of them, even when she's constantly tempt by soojin and her followers (surrounded by barb wires and the dancers) who are hoping she becomes like soyeon (symbolise by shuhua turning into soyeon after soojin whispered to her)
    yuqi and shuhua are probably miyeon's angels(?)/followers since both of them started with fancy settings and make up, shuhua stays faithful to miyeon but yuqi is curious and temped even tho she was already in heaven like adam and eve, judging by the white setting soyeon and minnie are probably fallen angels who used to be miyeon's angels, in conclusion everybody wants soojin who could blame them

    The white crosses looks like they're in a graveyard and then turn into white crosses "in the sky" like they are stars. This is what I love the most in kpop mvs. They're full of metaphores.
    We have here the story of girls who wants the sky, then fall.
    The fact they are their own godesses is amazing, by the way ^^

    Every so often I get the urge to relisten to the I Trust album over and over and in the end I watch people's reactions to Oh My God and Lion because those are easily two of my favourite Kpop songs to date, and finally I've come here. I don't know why I've avoided this channel for so long because I love how the way you dissected things and described things was so intentional, and breaking apart the editing on the music video and describing pieces I'd never catch myself and their intent is really cool. A lot of folks like to dissect the song itself, and knowing nothing about music I can just nod along and pretend like I know what's going on. But I know things about editing and cinematography so talking about those aspects included in Kpop is so refreshing and perfect for me.

    I definitely had that 'this doesn't feel complete' feeling too, but I found the sound and visuals so interesting that I listened to it again and again, and looping the song really makes it feel more complete (the idea of a loop, or a circle, has religious meanings that tie in with the song/mv, and this is even seen with Minnie beginning and ending the song). It's a song that wants you to press play again - to become 'addicted'. So the feeling of 'wait, it's over?' is on purpose imo. It's not going to be everyone's type of song, and I actually like that because Idle are taking that risk in order to evolve their sound. Another comment said Soojin is like Lilith, and beyond the whole 'demon/seduction' thing, they also mention 'sky' repeatedly and Soojin is seen with a lot of wind elements. This ties into the Lilith story (name often translated as meaning female demon/wind spirits, and in one version of the story she 'took to the sky to question God').
    Other little things I like: Miyeon's 'throne' is empty in a lot of the background shots, showing Soojin doesn't need her throne, she has her own dominion; and the other girls are shown as falling/descending, whereas the wind around Soojin is often raising her scarves/silks into the air, the roses are going upwards, even at 4:03 she throws her head back several times and you see her hair fly upwards. Also Shuhua seems to be the only one not showing any kind of resistance or nervousness about Soojin??? Which is just so Shuhua lmao.
    Anyway, PD, thanks for getting this out so quickly - I was really looking forward to your reaction to this one!
