@@NTxRE it is all apart of the customer experience, and you as a customer had a brilliant experience, you walk away with a lot more than just a day riding the rails. Its little things like this that mean so much more in the end.
The Kinki cars were built starting in 1985 and finishing in 1988, but in 1995, 20 more cars were purchased to meet increased ridership demands. Both are very similar in design to each other, but the later one has a stainless steel exterior for better lifespan and improved life.
Very interesting! I'm always surprised when TAs expand their orders when they see increases. I think we're all more used to them making more short-sighted moves than anything
We just got back from a few days in Boston. The "T" is a funny system - its neither fish nor fowl. Its not a bus system, its not light rail and its not a subway, but it has elements of all three. Like a bus, it runs at street level and has to stop for traffic and red lights. But like a subway it also runs underground and has block signals and spacing requirements, just like ordinary subway trains.
I remember how the announcements had a regular voice, then it would change to “Bus connection” in a voice that sounds like the person was ill, then it would switch back.
and when the announcment says ''change here for the silver line'' its the same voice as bus connection. im not sure if there is more announcments where that weird voice talks.
Not gonna lie, as someone who lives in a suburb of Boston, if I saw a giant greenline trolley car pull up right behind my SUV, I nearly shit myself thinking it was going to crash into me😂
I'd definitely be worried! Good thing they're all experienced drivers, as long as we don't do anything too crazy in our cars we should be fine. I can definitely imagine it getting my heart racing though!
This took me back to my teenage years working at the VA, riding my car on the tracks, gliding down to Mission Park where I spent alot of time hanging out. Taking the trolley down to fenway sometimes etc, but mostly we walked everywhere. I grew up in JP. Nice trip down memory lane. Thank you..
Btw the reason there is always a newer car and an older car coupled together is because the newer cars are low floor and the older cars are high floor. There was a big lawsuit against the MBTA for frequently running two older cars together, preventing ADA access. So now they always have one high, one low.
That's very interesting! I would have guessed something to do with signalling/automation compatibility but this makes a lot of sense. I'm glad they're doing that. Thanks for the info!
14:12, that’s actually not true they’ve had the type 8 LRVs since 1998. They had to be constantly taken out of service due to derailments and speed issues, etc. The last of them were put into service in 2006-07
I had no idea... At the time I was just amazed I found an employee who didn't hate me for existing. This gentleman was very kind and a blast to talk to.
Yeah.. it’s nice to meet operators like that. 17 years from that date was 2001. When those LRVs were in service, 🤷. They might upload a video of those when they were new. They did one for the red line trains.
Don’t get me wrong, the rehabbed ones are very nice, very shiny and very clean. 14:12, slight error: The Type 8s have been around since 1998, but they were in and out of service for several years due to multiple derailments, axle size issues and serious braking problems. The full fleet doesn’t enter service until 2007/2008. Ya, that’s almost TEN YEARS. The Type 8 LRVs’ reliability was true garbage. Some people call them “crap on wheels”. The T payed more than $220 million for those cars, crazy. 😮🙀
I would have loved to but I only had a day to pack in as much as possible. It was a super unique opportunity, and it pained me to pass it up, but I wanted to make sure I got a little bit of everything.
I can't remember which, but it was to transfer to the B or the C branch. I could have transferred earlier, but I got lost in conversation with the operator!
I assume you mean the operator... Unfortunately I didn't catch his name, but even if I did, I'd keep it to myself for his privacy. He was really cool to talk to though!
Except the tunnel? Sounds kinda backwards! In any case, as long as it's truly for your own personal use, you're legally allowed to record it. Operators that don't want to be in videos just make up the rules. I can't guarantee you won't end up talking to cops, but you have a legal right.
what a jewel of a driver. you can tell how much passion he has for his job and for what he works with.
I agree! Lots of fun to talk to.

It's definitely a cool system! Very unique and full of oddities like you mentioned!
The motor on that tram has same sound as NYC Subway's R142A, R143, and R188. Including MARTA Propulsion.
Indeed it does!

the best "cab ride" on the green line yet. Good job, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed! It was a lot of fun to film!

It is interesting to see how the trains interact directly with the traffic on this branch.
I keep coming back to watch this video it is awesome!!
Glad you liked it!
Great video, and judging by the conversation with the operator, we have the same employer and may have crossed paths at work.
Glad you liked the video! The name doesn't ring a bell at a glance, but I didn't work there too much later than when I took that video.

very nice of the driver to stay and chat. they let you film up front that was cool. awesome video

@@NTxRE if the trains don’t work they need to be scrapped or the infrastructure needs to be upgraded and taken out of service
Cool driver.
Yes indeed. It made up for all the other difficulties I had on my trip.

That's amazing! Thanks for the info! I only have what I skimmed from Wikipedia for the video... Local knowledge is always fun to have!
I hope to have him when i ride on the MBTA Tram When its over
When people get on the green line the train it is like a bus where you walk behind THE DRiVer but can touch and talk to the tHe driver
u know the spy ninjas? awesome me to
Why didn't you get a video from Lechmere to Heath Street through the Cab view window since you were in the same car?
I would have loved to but I only had a day to pack in as much as possible. It was a super unique opportunity, and it pained me to pass it up, but I wanted to make sure I got a little bit of everything.
North Texas Rail and Elevator ah ok, why did you not go all the way to Lechmere
I can't remember which, but it was to transfer to the B or the C branch. I could have transferred earlier, but I got lost in conversation with the operator!
North Texas Rail and Elevator ah ok. It was an awesome video that you kept going to park street
did you get anymore cab view ride videos?
I hope you guys got a chance to ride the PCCs at Mattapan!
I did! I have a video of the whole loop!
One thing about the Green Line is that the Type 9 doesn’t run on the E Branch only on the B,C,D
Interesting, I had no idea!
Cool Driver, Bro!
23:57, one of the last Non-Rehabbed Type 7 Cars, 3704.
Nice! This video is from quite a while ago... I wonder if it's rehabbed yet?
Man, it’s been rehabbed since 2019. I’ve seen it back in service after rehab.
I definitely filmed this before then... I'm glad I caught it!
MTA actually can with new cars bc the R211 was new and entered service on the A Far Rockaway Line
I heard about that! I'm excited to see them in person!
Is the throttle a lever you pull back and forth or is it the same as a NYC train
I can't remember for sure, but I believe it is a single lever control for power and all braking
Oh ok I was trying to figure that out every time I saw a front cab view video of this train @@NTxRE

Yep! That's me talking.

Yeah indeed, I thought that it was weird at first.
Weird propulsion...
It's a favorite of mine. Same as the better-known R188s on the 7 line in New York.
North Texas Rail and Elevator they sound very similar but not really the same
