i hear 2 measures of 4, 2 measures of 3, and 1 measure of 1/1 making the whole cycle of the intro. The 6 (or 3) you're hearing at the outset I'm hearing as triplets. Picture the beat to When a Man Loves a Woman; do you really hear that as 6/8, or is it a slow 4 with a triplet subdivision?
DAMN IT....EGG WHITES, would not process my debut card ( despite the availability of funds and checks and correct input) I will try to figure out the Pay Pal thing, though I am a techtard. Sir, not for a lack of trying.
@@mattphillips538 I think that to think about it in that much detail is often not worth it 😊And I definitely wouldn't go into that much detail for these videos In theory, you can make anything musical more complex. But most of the time, it doesn't need to be 🎶Only Nightwish themselves will have been involved in the rehearsal discussions etc., and only Tuomas will know how he thought about it when composing 🧠 But I definitely don't think it's 2x4 2x3 1x1. The rhythmic infrastructure - the chorus, percussion etc - of bars 2 and 4 (as per my statement in the video of 2x6/8 1x5/8 2x6/8) are identical. Having 2x4 2x3 1x1 would split up the main musical ideas Just my thoughts 😀
No one had analysed this song line you just did. I love it even more now. Thank you. I’m 63 and been a fan of Nightwish for more than 15 years. Were introduced to their music by my daughter , who sadly is no longer with me, I still go and see them whenever they are in london. Forever Nightwish. ❤
@@no_onein2024 YEAH! Lol. 😂 Thanks for uploading that documentary btw. I couldn’t find it anywhere else. Hope YT doesn’t.. ehm.. do nasty stuff to it - again.
@@SirHairless I think you would LOVE to watch FLOOR react to HERSELF in this video, she talks about her vocal coloring and styles she uses. React to her reaction LOL. Get HER perspective from this performance in Wacken, Germany back in 2013!!!
@@no_onein2024 It's more her remembering that night and describing her vocal choices throughout the song and why she chose them than what we think of as a reaction. It was very cool!
I was at this show, and it was a truely magical night. I almost would have missed it and would have probably lying drunk in my tent, if my wife didn't wanted to see them. I am forever thankful to her, that I was blessed to see this. Floor was part of the band for about 9 month and it was the first show for a central european crowd. So most of the people in the crowd had never seen her live with Nightwish. I can tell, that we were all blown away by her. I remember my jaw hurting from standing wide open most of the time. This show will be forever in my top 3 list of concerts I have seen. Along side with Queen live in 1986 and TOOL in 2019. What you should listen to next would be "Yours is an empty hope" live at Wembley and "The greatest show on earth" live at Tampere. Greets from Germany! By the way, you earned my sub with your humor and your deep understanding of music. Keep it up and enjoy falling into this deep rabbit hole.
Ich bin so neidisch... Wäre gerne da gewesen! Floor passt einfach extrem gut zu nightwish! Ich persönlich finde sie passt besser als Tarja und der Song wurde für Tarja geschrieben 😅
Tuomas is called Metal Mozart for a good reason. He is arguably one of the best composers of our time. Even us, musical noobs can hear and feel that Tuomas and Nightwish can affect feelings with their songs. Thank you for educating us. It's really good to see that pros like you explore and explain those bits that makes Nightwish special compared to other bands. There are many more songs like this, i'm sure the Nightwish Army will let you know about them. Keep up the good work!
Symphonic metal can be quite complex and musically demanding and is often completely underestimated. There are really first-class bands with top-class musicians, often profound storytelling, complex compositions and interesting harmonies. For me, it's "contemporary classic music" that you can and should deep immerse yourself in, and for me, if it's done well, it's pure relaxation.
This is exactly what we need more of in this world; top quality reactions to top quality music. Gems like this stands out from the big grey masses. Thank you Sir Hairless.
Man ... have seen many reaction videos to this live performance and you're simply one of the best, if not the best one. Thank you for your thoughts and insight. And for taking us through this epic voyage. Cheers !
When you said "sounds like a MIDI from a videogame from 25 years ago", keep in mind that the song is actually 20 years old, even if this performance is more recent, so for sure it has some influences of its times. I've been loving your nightwish reactions, I hope you do some more in the future!
Thank you so much. At last , an in depth musical analysis of this magnificent piece of music. Your explanations are well thought out and well constructed. It is very much appreciated and the fact that you avoid stating the obvious is wonderful. Thanks again, kind regards Mick from Aus.
Damn, this just made me realize that Floor has now been in Nightwish longer than any other vocalist including Tarja. Tarja was from the start (1996) to 2005 or about 9 years. Floor has been a member since 2013 but was on tour a year before that, so about 12 years now.
Oh my, I can’t even tell you how fun it was to see you react to this song. I absolutely loved it! It is so exciting to still learn more about the song even after watching a lot of reaction videos already. I think that Shoemaker would be an interesting (and shorter) one for you, but oh my, the Poet and the Pendulum will be the one I will really look forward to the most.
I normally don't pay that much attention to analyses but I have listened to every single word you said. Thank you for giving me all that information that I didn't know I needed. 😊
I've been waiting for this video so eagerly from the moment i saw your reaction to Ever Dream. I must be honest, I was starting to lose hope, but this was well worth the wait. While tons of youtubers have reacted to this song, very few are able to provide any sort of meaningful insight into it. As someone who understands next to nothing about music, I absolutely adore what you do. Thank you.
Thanks for sticking it out 😅 I knew this would be a long one to make and things have been crazy busy over summer. But I found some time for this one and boy oh boy I'm glad I did! Incredible song 🎵
I live next town to where Tuomas and the gang grew up in North Karelia, and I think the section that begins in 17:50 really captures the essense of this land. Its an enslessly expnading forest with unseen creatures lurking about. This music really reminds me of a stars and nothern lights lit winter night, with the forest and its inhabitants in a still slumber.
Love it when 'real' musicians analyze this song. You are part of a 'small' minority of reviewers that note, and explain, the complexity of their signature changes.
You definitely should watch the video Floor made during lockdown reacting to herself singing this at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. That and so many more presents Floor left on her TH-cam channel ready to unpack.
My observation of your observation tells me that your brain was working at 110% to not only dissect the song, but just to listen to the composition of the song. You put your education and emotions into your reactions. I appreciate that, as you admit not experiencing this style of music before realizing that the composition is indeed well thought out. 🌹
Yeah I definitely feel tired after filming one of these (and especially when it's a song like this!) I have to think about listening to the song as it's supposed to be listened to, but also noticing things I think would be good to mention in these videos. I always listen to the songs after I film the videos and find it very interesting hearing new things I missed the first time 🎶
@@SirHairless Watching your face twitch between an expression of almost suffering when you feel the music and then light up in pure joy is an experience in itself! And thank you for making me hear this beloved song with new ears again - I was always bad at picking out individual instruments in music classes at school but with the way you draw attention to them, it is somehow completely effortless.
Ok, after watching about 3596 reactions of this song, yours is now my top 1! The way you were invested in it and used all your knowledge to analyze this is really different from all the other reactions I've ever seen. Thank you for that and congratulations!
Its nice to see another person that actually does a breakdown and not just watch without saying anything and maybe talk at the end or, "i liked it" and then done.
Thank you for this brilliant reaction and analysis. So fun watch this in your company. I`v watch this version many, many times and never get board. Nightwish is for sure a liveband and one of the very best. They are all lovely people...down to earth....At the same time they send you to music heaven. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.
Well done sir. I have watched _far_ too many reactions to this song/performance, and yet you did indeed find new things to talk about. I do enjoy musical analysis at this level from someone who appears to know what he is talking about.
Yesss, it’s so good to have Sir Hairless coming back to visit the wild land of the horns sign🤘Welcome back and thank you very much for this wonderful visit, Sir H!🤟
I've watched reactions to this performance many, many times. Every time Floor gets to the "Hey" section I start trying to remember where I parked by longboat, because I'm convinced that we're all going to go out and pillage something. When she returns to the "My fall..." section, I'm fighting to hold back tears. It's a remarkable performance by the entire band.
This is the first video I have seen on your channel and I loved your analysis! I appreciate the technical descriptions - very informative for a layman who isn’t very knowledgeable about measures and counting and such. I wish you all the best as you continue your Nightwish journey. ❤from Nightwish Army of Minnesota USA
Thank you! I've done a couple of other Nightwish reactions which you can find in the description, if you're interested ☺ Hopefully see you around in my other videos!
How Jukka was suffering with severe insomnia and did put up a performance like that is beyond my understanding. Normally, someone under such a health disability is completely energy drained.
@@32a34a Exactly. It wasn't just the 16 songs here in this show. It was for the whole tour and even before the tour and after. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for Jukka to go through hell and back. He must be an adept of the old saying "The Show Must Go On" for sure.
This is the 13th song of a 15 song set , the stamina is amazing hence the small breaks , The drummer is incredible , this whole concert is worth a listen
Wow, I came in just to listen someone enjoy Nightwish, and found a thoroughly enjoyable musical analysis. Highlight of my day right here. Thanks for the effort!
My man - this is one of the best in-depth musical analysis I've ever heard on TH-cam. Great reaction to one of my favorite bands and great analysis. You've earned a subscriber - Best regards from Croatia 🤟
I would like to request a reaction to "Shoemaker". It is a tribute to Eugene Shoemaker, the only person who has been honored by having his ashes taken to the moon. Tuomas Holopainen said the song was inspired by reading the biography. I believe you will really like the song. The official lyric video is best. Nightwish is amazing.
the lyric video is best to analyze the song, but after the review, I would also watch just the ending aria, live from Hellfest to see/ hear Floor do that section live. It brings me to tears every f'ing time I watch/ listen to it!
Actually there's a backing track for the orchestra and choir stuff. This was recorded using the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir which they've worked together with for many many years. Oh and Floor has a fan in front of her standing on the podium that's pointed at her head which makes her hair flow differently. And yeah it's like a movie soundtrack aka movie score... hence Ghost Love SCORE 😉
This was the first out of countless reaction videos Ive watched through the years, that I did not skip a single second of. I'm sure other musicians know their stuff, but I hate it when they pauze and talk. Loved every minute of this. Liked, subscribed and looking forward to watching all your other uploads!
I was fortunate to be there and i loved it, to hear floor for the first time - after her having a hard time to learn the set list in such a short time.
Thank you for your amazing Review . This is the song I stumbled across a few years ago and started my decent into the Nightwish rabbit hole . Never been happier with a Band . I hope you will continue to discover everything about Nightwish and its Players as you move through this wonderful experience . Suggestion...Dead Boy's Poem , Buenos Aires 2018 . Masterpiece ! Cheers .P.S. you may need/want to set up a Nightwish Playlist Section as I'm sure you will need it . I know we will .
I LOVED this!! You have a very expressive face, which shows emotions and thinking(analyzing), which is beautiful: shows you're really invested, know your stuff, are authentic. Makes me watch you instead of the clip, because its interesting to see what you genuinely think: makes me believe what you say :) I loved that you brought up the bars and mini beats, key changes etc. that is definitely different and I learned something too :) Impressed, so Subscribed :)
I love that I can see your whole body tense and the cords in your neck stand out a bit when the heavy guitar starts chugging in the beginning. That means the music is working, delivering its intended emotional response. It's not a nervous or scared tension, more of an excited tension.
FINALLY! The song that got me hooked on metal, and symphonic metal in particular. Tuomas is so insanely talented as a composer. Thank you for an outstanding analysis!
Very precise and accurate analysis of this Epic Song. Thanks from a 75 year old fan. You are going down one of the greatest musical Rabbit Holes called Nightwish. Thank you again.
HAHAHA Now you understand that Floor is our Valkyrie Goddess of Metal! She defies normal physics! You are not the first man I have seen brought to tears by Floor & Nightwish. It is almost always a real experience rather than just a song. It is why they are best live - such power & emotions. 😊😊😊❤❤❤😊😊😊
Thank you for this intelligent, insightful, and darkly humorous analysis! It's highly enjoyable that you get hung up on small details, like the crowdsurfing, and audience reactions, too. Keep them coming!
Tuomas Holopainen's favorite composer is Hans Zimmer, which probably accounts for the fact that many mention that his music sounds like a movie sound track. But, movie soundtracks don't have these musicians and Floor. I was so glad to see this pop up on my feed. Love your Nightwish reactions because I always learn something new, even if I have heard the songs many, many times. Thank you so much for that analysis.
In terms of performance, I think you'll enjoy reacting to “The Greatest Show on Earth (with Richard Dawkins)”, which is their longest performance at around 20 minutes.
Nice reaction, and especially a very professional analysis, like it very much. Best comment though was about Floor's hair not obeying gravity :D And a bit surprised that you didn't mention, that the guitar solo before the interlude repeats and modulates the melody Floor sang before.
You may be interested in reacting to the second disk of their double album Human Nature, which is a 30 minutes orchestral only piece called All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World. Also Tuomas they keyboardist and composer of this song has a solo album called Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge, which is almost all instrumental also.
20:56 It’s the internet, so you are going to battle trolls! 🤣 Thank you for the video. Even dough I listened to many reactions/analysis videos, you were able to help me understand this song a bit more.
London Philharmonic if memory serves. They've got quite the track record in popular music, from The Alan Parsons Project to Alice Cooper back when there was a band as well as a singer of the name.
Thank you so much. At last , an in depth musical analysis of this magnificent piece of music. Your explanations are well thought out and well constructed. It is very much appreciated and the fact that you avoid stating the obvious is wonderful. Thanks again, kind regards Mick from Aus.
What an awesome reaction! I’ve heard this song literally a hundred times but with your guidance I’ve heard it with new ears. You have pointed out so many subtleties that I’ve never noticed before.
I love how it's all nautical themed, and when it comes out of the interlude, it almost sounds like it would fit right in with a pirate movie before shifting again.
Good to know that that is no synthetic choir. It is the Metro Voices of London contract choir group. They also sometimes use the The Young Musicians' Children's Choir. you heard the kids in Storytime. And last but not least, the strings and woodwinds and brass horns you hear are not from the synth keyboards. You are hearing The London Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom Nightwish collaborates regularly, recorded live at Abbey Road Studios under the direction of Tuomas and his former orchestra arranger, Pip Williams. The part you said reminded you of a video game: When I first heard it 18 years ago, it reminded me of a Celtic folk music vibe and still does. And the nearby section where the French horns are first heard loudly always reminds me of the 1812 Overture. In the 2005 live performance with the original singer, Tarja Turunen, this section was punctuated by a vast explosion of confetti cannons on both sides of the audience, adding to the 1812 Overture vibe! Great reaction! I have enjoyed all your NW reactions so far, as your analytical interludes are always, not only very informative, but also very interesting to listen to carefully! :)
@@charlesxavier.. Yeah, it's a Session Orchestra, a subset drawn out for a special session in studio. I think it was credited on one of the albums (Imaginaerum?) as "The Looking Glass Orchestra." But am I wrong in saying that the Session group is drawn from the London Philharmonic?
@@christomashofski9160 The point is as follows: Firtsly, Nightwish never mentioned on the credits albums tha orchestra . Why to avoid such a prestige thing? Secondly, on Nightwish compilation Hight Hopes It can be read on the booklet that for songs from Once album The London Session was used . Thirdly, Nightwish orchestra leader Gavyn Wright founded in 1993 The London Session. And last and the evidence is that Mikka Jussila (bands engineer )told me, by e-mail, London Session rather than Philharmonic. ...and thats all !! ...😊😊
@@charlesxavier.. OK, so the point is I'm a dummy. Forgive me for being far less familiar with terminology in the music industry than experts like you. So the ACTUAL point is two simple questions that remain unanswered: 1. Am I incorrect in saying that a Session Band or Session Orchestra is just that, constituted temporarily for a particular contracted session. Is that incorrect understanding on my part? And 2. Am I incorrect in saying that this Session Orchestra and the Looking Glass Orchestra musicians are drawn from the same group of professionals that work as the London Philharmonic? Or are they drawn from a pool that is totally unrelated to the Philharmonic employees?
Nightwish makes me even more proud to be a Finn, its nice to see their music being appreciated. Thanks for the breakdown, it makes me appreciate musicians and composers even more to hear all the complexities behind each piece of music. 🙏🏻
Great analyze, very entertaining and educational. This is the first video from you that I watched, so I have obviously no idea if you ever discussed analyzing Tool. But if not, it would be very interesting to see. I suggest Lateralus, Pneuma (Danny Carey cam), 46 & 2 and 7empest for their extreme complexity and uses of time signatures and of the Fibonacci sequence.
I adore your honest and unique detailed analysis as always! I’m sure you can glean more after a repeated listen, viewing. I imagine the turbulent beginning is the excitement to come as a ship goes to sea. Her initial siren call lures the sailors in and the symphonic interval is like her descent back into the sea. What happens next is the view of the captain of the ship IMO as he faces obstacles as the sea begins to churn.😋
I enjoy the way you take your time to share your knowledge analysing what this amazing band can make, they`re the best and your reactions too, had to subscribe! keep rocking and stay safe,,,,
Well, i love your analysis and I must say,, i only wish, i had a music teacher like you in elementary school, ..... heard this song hundreds of times.. but... you manage to show and teach me something new... thank you.
Well, the wait was worth it. I've been waiting for this reaction since trying to get you to react to it when first joining your patreon group, but having to settle for the song Ever Dream because of the length of this one. Thanks for getting to this one and I'm glad you see why so many wanted you to see this amazing performance by Nightwish.
This piece, this score, has carried me through some rough times during two decades. Not once, not twice, not trice.. but through all of them. And it's doing it again right now. This is my happy place. This is my escape.
I am so glad you listened to this one. I've seen many reactions, and I love your perspective. Your perspective is a little bit about Floor, but a lot about the musicality of the song - and it is an absolutely amazing piece.
Yes, I like to offer insights you won't find in other reaction videos. And I believe the harmony is the real core of music. Floor is amazing, but the music/song itself deserves recognition in detail
"Floor's hair apparently is not affected by gravity as every other thing on this planet...". Yeah, those damn Goddesses have these unfair advantages against us mortals 🤣 But it might also be, that there is a floor fan in front of her...literally thousands of them, but also on the stage, electric one with propeller 😊
@@SirHairless as for the next reactions, I can't wait to see your reactions to The Greatest Show on Earth and The Poet And The Pendulum. Latter one being the most personal song for Tuomas and some of the fans. Here is my version of the back story for that. It's not mandatory, but it helps to understand few things about that song and the whole history of this band. The Poet and the Pendulum (TPATP) is the first track from their 6th studio album "Dark Passion Play, which was the first album with the 2nd vocalist of Nightwish, Anette Olzon. It's a brilliant 14 minute composition with multiple parts, right there with "Ghost Love Score" and "The Greatest Show On Earth". It's probably the most personal song for Tuomas, and he doesn't have all the words coming through his in-ear monitors at live. The name of the song is borrowed from Edgar Allan Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum, the story of a man who's sentenced to death and tortured by the Spanish Inquisition, using - among other things - a razor sharp pendulum that, swings above him, getting lower little by little, and eventually cut him right in half. TPATP has quotes from that story (and more), so don't be too confused about some of the lyrics. They are metaforically describing Tuomas' feelings. It also has part "Mother and Father", which includes some words that Tuomas' mother said to him. So, TPATP is about Tuomas' dark times after guys fired the first Nightwish front lady Tarja (right after their "End Of An Era" concert in 2005). Tarja had already informed guys that she will leave after the next album, but somehow guys ended up humiliating Tarja, and fired her with an open letter. In the letter they told quite private things about the things behind the scenes, and of course it was only their side of the story. Tuomas got huge amount of hate from the fans, and he got really depressed. So the song is very dark. Just for the record (and against some pretty popular believe), Tuomas denies that he had any suicidal thoughts. You should read both of those letters to understand how bad it was, but bear in mind, that it was written by disappointed angry young men (or man). You can find the letter that guys wrote and Tarja's response with some Googling. The whole sound of first era Nightwish was based on Tarja's voice, which is why losing Tarja felt the end of the world for the most fans. Nightwish was founded in 1996, and it was supposed to be only acoustic mood music, just demo or two, maybe even an album, but definitely never live shows. When Tuomas and Emppu went to ask Tarja to sing on their demo, they had no idea that she had started her classical training (and they were a bit shocked when they heard her powerful voice in the studio). The girl they knew from high school had totally different sound now. That was where Tuomas decided that they might want to ditch the acoustic idea and try something else. So on their second demo they switched to electric guitar and asked Jukka to play the drums, and the rest is history. The record company liked that demo and wanted to publish it as it is, so it became their first album "Angels Fall First". About all the drama...you don't want to believe any of that "greedy diva who didn't care about the band or fans" bs you are going to hear. That open letter was incredibly childish and cruel way to handle this situation, and Marko has apologized that later (and he has also been touring with Tarja). He also said, that the worst part was losing a friend, which also tells me, that she wasn't that much of a diva after all. I think that the main problems were Tarja's husband Marcelo (which guys didn't like at all), and the fact that Tarja matured faster than boys. She didn't want to travel on smokey bus with bunch of drunken rock stars anymore, nor having a constant after gig parties. Can anyone seriously blame her for that? She also wanted a solo career, which she had trained for (they all have one or even multiple solo careers now, but back then guys wanted 100% devotion). Guys also didn't care about Tarja's needs (like privacy or decent food). They also booked gigs without Tarja's permission, even on dates which Tarja had specifically said she had something else to do, and she had given her schedules several months prior. I'm sure she could have done something better too, but guys were really immature at that time, and they have admitted themselves, that back then Nightwish was everything to them. I'm also pretty sure they all said a lot of things to each other what they really didn't mean. People tend to do that when they are tired, frustrated and/or angry. Any of that doesn't even matter, because the main point is that guys should have kept things clean. Tarja was going to leave after next album in anyway, so guys could have just told her that "ok then, we don't need you on the next album, and we can tell the fans that this was mutual decision". People also need to understand one more thing. Tarja is not only a singer but a great pianist and brilliant composer too. With Nightwish she had no chance to write her own music. So of course she wanted to invest to her own career. And for me it's clear, that guys were asking more from Tarja, than she had never agreed. But like I said, both sides could have done better job how to handle all this...and I'm sure Marcelo did more damage than good, even that he only wanted the best for Tarja. There are always at least two sides of the story. Speaking of which, there was this theory many of us old fans had, that Tuomas was in love with Tarja (or at least had a crush on her), and he was just too jealous to Marcelo. I still believe that this might have been one of the reasons why things went south. If you just think about all the songs he wrote to Tarja (She is my Sin, Ever Dream, Ghost Love Score, Wish I had an Angel, Beauty of the Beast etc etc), and think what he have written after her, there is a huge difference. And the demo version of TPATP has line "for eleven years I have been strapped on to this altar", which could refer that he has been love-sick for the whole time. Otherwise it wouldn't really make any sense. Who knows but Tuomas himself. There is also this line about 1000 pages of erased text, which could refer that he had written more songs to Tarja already, and maybe that was one of the reasons he was so pissed of Tarja's urge to leave. One can only speculate. Yes, I'm an old fan since 1998, and I'm still a big fan of Tarja, so you can think this is just a Tarjaholic talk. But I have watched huge amount of interviews and documentaries, and I've read pretty damn many comments from the people who have actually met Tarja, lived near her etc, and they all say that she is very lovely and down to earth, and she really loves her fans. And that is exactly how I have always seen her. So it is impossible for me to believe those accusations guys made. The reason I wanted to share my version of this is, that so many of these new fans tend and even want to accuse Tarja. It just feels wrong. How would they feel if this same thing would happen to Floor? Anyone can say it's different with Floor, but basically it was the same exact thing when it happened to Tarja. We old fans couldn't imagine something like this to happen, and we were devastated. I had followed their "Cinderella story" for 7 years, read all the articles, seen all the interviews I could, waited for their next albums release several times, and then they ended it in this disgusting way. I was pissed, just like most of other fans. She was the sound of Nightwish I fell in love with, and I will always be grateful of that, and cherish all those old recordings. And any of this is not to say that guys were just lying. They probably felt that she was diva because she didn't want to party and travel with them anymore. And this is not some "bring back Tarja" talk either. I love Floor. I just don't like that some new fans are trying to smash Tarja's legacy, and base their opinion solely on that stupid open letter. One of the accusations is, that she thought that she was bigger than Nightwish. That is also not true. This is solely based on the one quote Tarja had allegedly said during the argue with Tuomas, that she can leave whenever she wants and that she doesn't need Nightwish anymore. If anyone can just point me one single video, where she has done anything that proofs me wrong, please leave a link. Never in any video, concert, interview or whatever, I have seen her acting like a diva. Even on all of their last concerts she seemed very happy and she really tried to interact with other band members. And even at their "End of an era" concert where she was very sick, she didn't let that show out one bit, and she was definitely very moved multiple times. Like after Sleeping sun, you can definitely see her almost bursting into tears. Sorry about this long explanation, but as a new fan, I think you deserve to have a proper background story. Hope this helps to understand why this band has some controversy between old and new fans (and then there are middle fans as well). Luckily there are still many of us who can love all the singers they've had.
@@SirHairless It's not the wind doing it to Floor's hair, it's the midichlorians that give her that thing called, "The Floorce"....Also, us fans of Floor are also fans of Floor's floor fan...🙄🤣
Good reaction. When you finally get around to The Greatest Show on Earth live at Tampere be warned, it’s around 30 minutes long. Be sure to play it to the very end. I will prepare a picnic complete with plenty of drinks (alcohol free!) before settling down to watch😊
The selection of words, the dialect, the tiny pauses between many words... I don't know if this is an England thing or a hairless thing but I like it ☺ "Thä was this... hooon... sound blaring through." 😂😂 (5:59)
Again, I am impressed by your analysis! And again, you gave me the gift of a new song, a new type of music to feast on. Thank you so very much for enriching my music enjoyment. ❤

i hear 2 measures of 4, 2 measures of 3, and 1 measure of 1/1 making the whole cycle of the intro. The 6 (or 3) you're hearing at the outset I'm hearing as triplets. Picture the beat to When a Man Loves a Woman; do you really hear that as 6/8, or is it a slow 4 with a triplet subdivision?
try to listen Avantasia scarecrow th-cam.com/video/LTyxnUZMA1k/w-d-xo.html ,it's awesome
DAMN IT....EGG WHITES, would not process my debut card ( despite the availability of funds and checks and correct input) I will try to figure out the Pay Pal thing, though I am a techtard. Sir, not for a lack of trying.
@@mattphillips538 I think that to think about it in that much detail is often not worth it 😊And I definitely wouldn't go into that much detail for these videos
In theory, you can make anything musical more complex. But most of the time, it doesn't need to be 🎶Only Nightwish themselves will have been involved in the rehearsal discussions etc., and only Tuomas will know how he thought about it when composing 🧠
But I definitely don't think it's 2x4 2x3 1x1. The rhythmic infrastructure - the chorus, percussion etc - of bars 2 and 4 (as per my statement in the video of 2x6/8 1x5/8 2x6/8) are identical. Having 2x4 2x3 1x1 would split up the main musical ideas
Just my thoughts 😀
We need to see your analysis for The Poet And The Pendulum (OFFICIAL LIVE). We really need that!!!
This is the best live performance of a song I have ever seen.
No one had analysed this song line you just did. I love it even more now. Thank you. I’m 63 and been a fan of Nightwish for more than 15 years. Were introduced to their music by my daughter , who sadly is no longer with me, I still go and see them whenever they are in london. Forever Nightwish. ❤

Appreciate you!
@@SirHairless I think you would LOVE to watch FLOOR react to HERSELF in this video, she talks about her vocal coloring and styles she uses. React to her reaction LOL. Get HER perspective from this performance in Wacken, Germany back in 2013!!!
@@no_onein2024 I agree, this is just a so too much long, even own singer didnt so long video...
Ich persönlich finde sie passt besser als Tarja und der Song wurde für Tarja geschrieben 😅
don't make us too yealous! :)
So you are one of the magical people attending this Wacken 2013 concert live...
Amazing - memories you'll keep with you forever, I'm sure
I whole hearly agree with you that this was a Magical and also one that i will never forget.
Nightwish - The Greatest Show on Earth (Spirit Tampere [4K Upscaled])
This is the GOAT
Well, this performance is now 11 years old itself.
@@jaynecobb8356 yeah, time flies...

Sir hairless! Please do not jump into poet and the pendulum without reading about the events that led up to Tuomas writing the beloved masterpiece.
The entire 2013 Wacken concert is phenomenal 🔥
Yeah I definitely feel tired after filming one of these (and especially when it's a song like this!)
I have to think about listening to the song as it's supposed to be listened to, but also noticing things I think would be good to mention in these videos. I always listen to the songs after I film the videos and find it very interesting hearing new things I missed the first time 🎶
@@SirHairless To be honest there are very few things in your reactions that your briliant mind missed.. 🙂 Thank you for shearing us your knowledge.👏👍

What we're really watching is someone new fall in love with Nightwish and Floor 🙂
It's the #1 Floor fan, which is also a floor fan.
It was not.
This was the first out of countless reaction videos Ive watched through the years, that I did not skip a single second of. I love that I can see your whole body tense and the cords in your neck stand out a bit when the heavy guitar starts chugging in the beginning. That means the music is working, delivering its intended emotional response. It's not a nervous or scared tension, more of an excited tension.

Haha very good point
With Nightwish there is a full symphony orkest and choir on a tape playing❤❤❤❤
both from London!
London Philharmonic if memory serves. They've got quite the track record in popular music, from The Alan Parsons Project to Alice Cooper back when there was a band as well as a singer of the name.

London Session Orchestra , not Philharmonic...😊
@@charlesxavier.. they have recorded and played with both..
@@christomashofski9160 The point is as follows:
Firtsly, Nightwish never mentioned on the credits albums tha orchestra .

Oh, and Music Kingdoms "combined" version (studio + live). With this one you learn to appreciate the origin(al).
Sublime analysis, easily the best out of dozens I've seen of this song, by a substantial margin. I learnt a lot.

Yess thank you so much for doing this! A great analysis, as always.
"Floor's hair apparently is not affected by gravity as every other thing on this planet...". Yeah, those damn Goddesses have these unfair advantages against us mortals 🤣
But it might also be, that there is a floor fan in front of her...literally thousands of them, but also on the stage, electric one with propeller 😊
I knowwww but that ruins the illusion
Greatest show on earth, the poet and the pendelum or song of myself hed been great choices.
‘Floor Fan’ 😉
This like so many of their songs is absolutely amazing. I think my favorite songs they do are over the hills and far away and the islander
Phantom Of The Opera, with Tarja Turunen as lead vocalist.
20:20 That's always been my favorite shot!
Good reaction. When you finally get around to The Greatest Show on Earth live at Tampere be warned, it’s around 30 minutes long. Be sure to play it to the very end. I will prepare a picnic complete with plenty of drinks (alcohol free!) before settling down to watch😊
I‘ve been hoping for a while that you would discover Nightwish and do this reaction - thank you!!!
So, this is what a true analysis looks like!!!
Just so good as the music piece is!!
The selection of words, the dialect, the tiny pauses between many words... I don't know if this is an England thing or a hairless thing but I like it ☺
"Thä was this... hooon... sound blaring through." 😂😂 (5:59)
I've watched many reactions to this performance (o7 General Gabriel) - yours is one of the most insightful. Bravo.
I looove that you mentioned the Stranglers!
A band worthy of mention 🎶
Great reaction, SH! I enjoyed your comments and analysis.
Again, I am impressed by your analysis! And again, you gave me the gift of a new song, a new type of music to feast on. Thank you so very much for enriching my music enjoyment. ❤
