@@Sharky762... Na, our Valkyrian Goddess is impressive and an incredible world-class singer, but she didn't join Nightwish only a few weeks, or days, before Wacken Open Air 2013.
Wacken Open Air 2013 took place from August 1st 2013, and Floor joined Nightwish on October 1st 2012.
Still impressive though, the way Floor in just 10 months had given e.g. this song her own take, when you think about how complex many Nightwish songs are.

    • @STS125
      @STS125 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@AkkerDKthe best way to describe it, 10 months was not a long time to really establish which of the absolute classic Tarja songs to have her do at a level that makes people ok replacing Tarja. Floor is phenomenal but it is still a very tall order to replace someone who was already iconic to the sound of those songs. So yeah, 10 months can sound like a long time, but really wasn’t at all. Super impressive

I have a feeling that the organ thingy is just a prop around a normal synthesizer.
And since growling heavy metal isn't your thing, that never happens with Nightwish and should therefore fit snugly on your playlist. It's a lovely band that ties together two very different worlds effortlessly.

  • @nightmary

Loved your reaction. New sub. Nightwish is considered a symphonic metal band, but they perform Celtic folk to heavy, chunky metal, and everything in between. I really enjoy their music videos, but they absolutely excel in live performances. They have an amazing rapport with their audiences, each musician is top shelf, and you can tell they perform as a family who really love what they do. Every song is different and often surprising. I would love to see you react to other groups as well, but please include Nightwish regularly in your reactions - you will make a lot of people very happy.

Hello Cristina Russo ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "
For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community

For your information, Floor is Dutch and did 4 years of Rock Academy, one year musical theatre and one year belcanto. The last two at the conservatory ofcourse. She started singing in After Forever at the age of 16 and worked as a vocal coach for a few years. She had a burnout whe her band broke up and while still recovering, was called by Nightwish, to get her to fill in for the previous singer Anette Olzon, who left the band in the middle of an American tour. She flew over to the US, had only a day or two to learn all the lyrics and finished the tour.
The band learned to know Floor and they loved her and her musical talents, so they asked her to stay and become the lead singer. She officially joined at the same time Troy Donockley did. He's an English multi-instrumentalist, especially known for the Ullean Pipes. The bassist Marco Hietala (the guy with the white hair and beard) is a good singer too and he regularly joins in. He and Floor harmonize great together.
If you want to hear more of her soprano voice, I recommend her duet Stabat Mater Dolorosa with the band Epica of whom the lead singer is her long time friend Simone Simons: th-cam.com/video/nhtOORYTGx8/w-d-xo.html They do this in the middle of a metal concert and with a full orchestra back stage. During breaktime for the band floor jansen of nightwish, together with simone simons of epica, did an amazing performance of stabat matar dolorisea..very old hymne about Maria crying over death of her son..the metal audiance was in awe..

One of the many things that's amazing with Floor is that she knows precisely when to do something and how much. She never goes overboard just for effect. That's why we have Floorgasms, she knows the perfect moment to give us extra everything and she do it so well. Few other can do what she does with her voice, anything and without effort.

Great job on the NIGHTWISH reaction. It's nice to hear a reaction from a real voice coach. There are about 5 real voice coaches that give an honest reaction. GLS is the most reacted song on TH-cam. NIGHTWISH's first singer Tarja sang this song in a more operatic style. Floor Jansen is my favorite NIGHTWISH singer's. I hope that you do more NIGHTWISH videos from the same concert. I'm sure a lot more people reacting to your video will request more NIGHTWISH.

Loved your comments and insights! The bands composer, Tuomas Holopainen, is a big fan of music from soundtracks and cites Hans Zimmer and Disney as one of his influences so spot on with the Zimmer comment. The organ pipe thingy is Tuomas's keyboard stand (two Korg keyboards behind and a holder for a bottle of wine) and is modeled on the Sibelius Monument in Helsinki. Jean Sibelius, famous Finnish classical composer, is another one of Tuomas's hero's and musical inspirations. Loved your Disney vocal comment early on as well. During the pandemic Floor recorded some covers in her home studio to post on her YT channel. One of the first was Let it Go for her daughter and she later recorded Into the Unknown as well. Floor is over 6' and she says she has lungs like a deep sea diver which helps her achieve that impressive breath control. I have seen a few video's where you can see her diaphragm expand and contract as she supports hearth breathe. If you want to see her sing straight up opera their is a video of her singing O Mio Babbino Caro, th-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/w-d-xo.html and Vilja Lied on the Dutch singing show Beste Zangers, th-cam.com/video/JN80AfHiUTY/w-d-xo.html. Floor Jansen pronounced Yahn-sen is the third singer of Nightwish and she is Dutch as am I. Floor went to the Rock Academy while being the lead singer of a metal band at 17 years old. She felt something was missing and one day an opera teacher came to teach at her school. She took opera lessons for a couple of years as well as musical singing. One of the bands Floor was in was called After Forever back in those days she growled and belted even more. Floor was known all over the world except in her own country The Netherlands... that is until she was asked to sing PHANTOM of THE OPERA in a Dutch tv show. Floor sang Phantom of the Opera in a tv show called Beste Zangers with her childhood male idol who actually played the Phantom of The Opera Henk Poort. After thi s performance Floor was famous over night in her own country which made her decide to do a solo show in The Netherlands without Nightwish. She was also asked to perform at the German version of the show. Beste Zangers tv show with Floor in it a lot of reactors on TH-cam reacted to it as Floor sing Lady Gaga song and many others. Beste Zangers tv show with Floor is on TH-cam. It is a tv show were famous singers sing each others songs or songs of cover songs they like. One week one singer is picked and all the other famous singers sing their songs or covers of songs they like. The tv show for a change It is not a competition to win it is to celebrate one singer a week. These songs the other famous sing for them really mean something to them like songs when they went to a difficult time or when they lost someone so it is more of an emotional show than a competion to win. A lot of TH-cam reactors like yourself have reacted to Floor singing Phantom of The Opera, Lady Gaga and many more songs on tv show Beste Zangers. All episodes with Floor of tv show Beste Zangers are on TH-cam. P.s. After Floor got famous in her own country The Netherlands she was invited to sing the national Anthem of her country to open The Formula 1 racing the biggest car race in the world for millions of people on tv and on the track itself in a town called Zandvoort. Floor can sing in 6 different languages she can sing pop, rock, metal, belt, grunt, opera, musical theater and she also made a heavy metal version of Let it Go for her daughter who was crazy about that song.

An excellent reaction. Just for some references if you want to learn more about Floor and Nightwish, there are a couple of documentaries that might interest you which you can watch in your own time. The first is Floor reacting to her own performance on her own YT channel, it is interesting hearing what she thinks while singing the song. The second is a 2 hour documentary call Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours. It gets the name from the fact that Floor had just 48 hours to learn the full Nightwish setlist when the band sacked their previous vocalist mid tour. She had to learn I think something like 15 songs in 48 hours. It is in Finnish but has English subtitles. There is a third documentary that might interest you and that is when Floor goes back to her old Rock Academy for a reunion. She talks about her being in Nightwish and the breakup of her own bands and recovering from burnout. This one is in Dutch but has English subtitles. If I can I will leave links.

Nightwish, Épica, Within Temptation, and other bands with female vocalists are the perfect balance between angelic, soprano singers and tough and rough metal sound, Tarja Turunen (their first singer) is even more operatic\classical than Floor here, so with those two alone, you are in for a delicious musical treat

There are a few Nightwish moments that I never get tired of watching people experience for the first time, and Floor's top note in this track is one of them. Given that it's been (checks notes) over 24 hours, I'll assume that Gabriel and the rest of the Nightwish Army have already been here to recommend all the other moments I never get tired of seeing.
Couple of fun facts: Keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen composes the vast majority of Nightwish's tracks and cites Hans Zimmer as one of his major influences. Nightwish's first DVD even featured an instrumental track that incorporates a bit of Hans Zimmer's music from Crimson Tide.
And that is a choir you're hearing in the mix, but a pre-recorded one. Most Nightwish albums include orchestral and choral elements. Many of Nightwish's tracks have even had separate releases of orchestral versions without the band's parts. In their live shows, those orchestral and choral elements are mixed in as backing tracks.

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.1) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites:
    Energize me: th-cam.com/video/fjm4BrNAf6s/w-d-xo.html
    Monolith of Doubt: th-cam.com/video/3TmKHkQx45U/w-d-xo.html
    Dreamflight: th-cam.com/video/73-_F9prx4I/w-d-xo.html
Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). Here is a link to a part of a TV show (with english subtitles) of the reunion of the class of the Rock Academy with mostly backstage footage of the Tampere concert of Nightwish in 2015: th-cam.com/video/B3NIfu0qvtg/w-d-xo.html
'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples:
    Misery’s no Crime: th-cam.com/video/SNPesLFTnUg/w-d-xo.html
    Disdain: th-cam.com/video/tIqzPXzhEuw/w-d-xo.html
Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: th-cam.com/video/vhExkmWKMEU/w-d-xo.html
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see:: th-cam.com/video/bAiPeSsqD-4/w-d-xo.html
A suggestion to a christmas song sung by Floor. Here is a link to a performance in Finland with a special guest with the best seat you could imagine: th-cam.com/video/ym1Wc5dmUYc/w-d-xo.html
Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on TH-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa:, th-cam.com/video/QqdvFPBGN0c/w-d-xo.html
and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini: th-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/w-d-xo.html
As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered TH-cam in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish:. th-cam.com/video/QW_3F186_5Q/w-d-xo.html
Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of the presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career.
