Buxtehude's Trio Sonata in F major is his first ever publication. With musical stylistic elements and almost mystical harmonies, he marks his principle of ‘Soli deo Gloria’ right at the beginning and composes Jesus' entry into Jerusalem (1- Vivace), his suffering, death and resurrection (2.2- Adagio), the apparition and ascension (3- Andante) as well as the feast of Pentecost with motifs from his chorale preludes centred around the Holy Spirit (4- Presto).
It is a well-composed and fantastically playable sonata that contains both North German Baroque and Italian elements.

Stylus phantasticus?
Yes. Buxtehude was the biggest expert of this style in his time.
