Wayne’s dead right about poorly managed clubs having poor performances.
It’s not only the Broncos, you could add the Sharks, West’s Tigers, and the Saints into the mix, and more recently the Cowboys. And a few more. Look at the professionalism at the Roosters and the Storm. Little wonder they’re always near the top and win premierships. The bunnies are similar, sure, just one premiership in the last decade, but preliminary finals the last 3 years.

These blowout scores are horrendous. These rules to speed up the game are ridiculous and it's cost a lot of injuries to veterans and forced them to retire or quit the game (Jake Friend, Trent Merrin, Blake Green, Michael Morgan, Brett Morris, Boyd Cordner) as examples. They want to make it a faster, younger, safer game but the blowout scores just gives the game an ugly look. When your team was beaten by 50 or 60 in the past your season was done and dusted, not now. The teams have been conditioned to accept these heavy defeats and it's a stain on the game.

Good insight from the legend. I mean it can't be all down to the rule changes, some clubs are just not managed well, Rabbits, Roosters, Storm, Manly, Canberra (before this year) (and Panthers of late) have been managed well, they know what to look for in the rules and use them to their advantage, they have good lists because they know who to keep, who to get rid of and who to pick up. Look at how players play for the successful clubs, then look at when they leave. Kyle Flanagan is talented, but when he went to the dogs, he had pressure piled on him and he performed badly, now they will probably get rid of him. Broncos have no idea and are placing the blame on the players and coach instead of looking at what is wrong in the club. A lot of clubs mismanage their talent. The big clubs tend to know exactly what they are doing and what they want to achieve and set about it. I mean sometimes they go astray, the wheels fell off the Canberra train, Broncos have been down the shitter for a while....Sharks have been inconsistent.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaawnnnnnnn. Well run clubs with good recruitment, retention and player development programs are reaping rewards while the other ones lagging behind are not. I don't like the fact that there's so many rule changes at the one time and I think the poor adjusting to these rules is exacerbating some scorelines...
At the same time though what I really hate is people taking all the focus off the ineptitude of certain teams and also the brilliance of other teams, by simply moaning about the rules everytime a blow out occurs. Clubs like the Bulldogs, Broncos and Tigers have been bad lately because they have been shockingly managed and it is not the fault of the game if their own poor decision making internally sees them suffer on the field. By contrast the Storm have wonderful systems in place and the Panthers, a basket case not that long ago are now starting to benefit from building a team full of talent has come up through the grades and junior systems.

You run a good office with a smart recruit drive, it trickles down to the players and everyone else. For example the NZ Warriors have struggled this year but had some bad luck with injuries. They have been able to turn the office around, improve the recruitment department and it shows with the players they have been able to acquire on their roster.

Bennett has it backwards. He's right that a toxic club culture can make things worse but it's NOT the primary reason for the blowouts. That is due to the new manic speed of the game, which sees tough footballers trying to play a manic OzTag speed of the game. 10 out of the 16 teams don't have the roster to suit the new rules. Either Vlandys must go, or the teams need to restock with OzTag players.

I completely agree with Benno. Easy blame is the players, but the actual problem is the toxic environment. Well said Benno. It all comes down to club management! 👏👏👏

Bennett legend! Only he could speak to the behind-the-scenes chaos that is having an impact on the clubs, players and the score lines. After watching an interview with Cam Smith and learning about the 'Storm culture', I understand why Bennett calls out toxic environments ( I reckon he should of said toxic leadership)

He's spot on. In all aspects of life, the performance and success of any group, be it a family, a business, a team, an organisation is totally dependent on those making decisions at the top. It's why the Broncos along with the Free World are in disarray. Equality is not a given right it is a gift from above.

What makes a coach a genius? Just listen to this. I remember a quote from Wayne's bio, and I think it was Paul Morgan that said it, from memory so probably not exact: "We are not just building good footballers we are building good people." Says a lot about the current state of the game. If you chase the dollars only you will end up with nothing. I sure am looking forward to the difference Ben Ikin will make to the Broncos ethos.
