Bloody Legend. I looked at the bearing number for my model and found it was a scooter bearing very common. Just going to use the kids spare scooter parts and pop it in. This really helped. Thanks Champion !!!
Thanks @Built Different. That is definitely a win! Thanks for sharing with the community. Really glad the video helped. Thanks for watching the channel mate!
Many thanks Paulie D. That means the world to me. This is the reason I started doing this channel. Really glad it helped you out. I just had the circuit board replaced in ours and the electrician said that this model is still one of best. Hope you get many more years out of it! Thanks for watching the channel.
Thanks for doing this video. It was super helpful. I was able to buy a bearing from a Skateboard shop down at Manly Beach for $5. TIP: Make sure to get an all steel fully sealed bearing, not the cheaper bearings with a plastic case as those will most likely melt sending you back to square one.
Thanks @Mr VO2! Great tip on getting the all steel fully sealed bearing. Definitely need it. There is a lot of heat generated by high revolutions of the dryer and extended use time. Some cycles can go over the hour. Thanks for sharing and watching the channel mate🙏
Thanks did it today. # Removing back plate 1. Remove 2 phillips head screw beneath front user console 2. Remove console (secured by clips) 3. Remove 6 phillips head screws on plastic frame on tope 4. Remove plastic top frame 5. Remove 16x phillips head screws from perimeter of metal back plate, 2x from interior 6. Remove metal back plate 7. Clean interior # Removing Drum 1. Remove center nut from rear (washer is attached to nut) 2. Remove bolt from inside drum 3. Remove bearing plates from inside drum (4x pointy end screws outside, 2x flat end outside) - Bearing was gone in my case # Reassembly 1. From the back inside: nut -> backplate -> big bushing -> drum -> small bushing -> small plate -> nut
Thanks @supermajic! Thanks for sharing the step by step process! Love it. This will be super helpful for everyone watching. Thanks for watching the channel and sharing your experience also.
2:18 - I've got the bolt out already. Aahhhh! I can't get it out, because the screw turns with the nut. Would have been really nice to see how you did that!
My apologies @fmueller1 You are not the first to bring that omission to my attention…. I think I may have got one of my girls to hold the spanned (I think I used a socket) on the inside while I loosened the back of it. I hope you got it undone in the end! Thanks for writing in. I just shook my head when I saw it and thought how frustrated I’d be if I was watching it and hoping for some insight…. Hopefully I’m getting better with recording the key parts. Thanks for watching the channel!
hey watched and changes the bearing , the bearing is a 608z which would be great to put on your description straight up , also unless i missed it you should mention that the bearing spacers are two and where actually y0u need to put them . cheers
Thanks for watching Mannie and thanks for your suggestions! You are spot on. I have been asked many times where the spaces go…. I wish I had mentioned it. Despite being a few episodes in, this was the first one I ever recorded. Looking back there is so much that was missed. Like how did I get the bolt undone? Things that seem obvious to me now after making videos for a few years… missed opportunity for sure. I’ll add that number to the description as well. Thanks for sharing!! 🙏
Thanks for the video. Which way do the spacers go on the shaft? I had the retaining nut unscrew off the back of the central bolt (the drum then collapsed inside the machine) so I took the machine apart much like your video, found all the loose parts and put the spacers back on the bolt and tightened it all up. The machine ran but after it had done a load of damp clothes I noticed a fair amount of metal shavings in the filter and around the door seal. So I guess that I put the spacers back the wrong way around. I have since ordered a new bearing kit which comes with new spacers. So I am about to take the ED56 apart again and reinstall a new bearing and spacers but I could not find a mechanical drawing of how the spacers are supposed to go on the central shaft. Any advice would be most appreciated. Regards, Peter.
Hi Peter, Sorry to hear about your machine. It’s been a while since I did that repair but from memory the larger spacer goes on the inside and the smaller one on the outside. So either side of the backing plate that has the heating element on it. If you are buying your new bearing kit from a repairer, they should develop able to show you the exploded view. They use that to identify the parts but also shows in what sequence it goes together. I’ve just had the circuit board replaced in mine and the repair guy reckons they are still one of the best machines out there. So worth the effort to fix mate. Good luck and hope you get many more years out of it! Thanks for watching the channel!
Hi Kevin, Apologies for taking some time to reply. I have been waiting (hoping) to see your whole question but unfortunately it isn’t showing up for me. Admittedly, it is probably me, but I’m doing the things I normally do to answer the other comments and that’s not working for some reason. Would you mind re-sending your question? Thanks 🙏
How did you get the bolt out at the back of the drum to gain access to the bearing? There is a nut on the outside but when I turn it the inside just spins. The inside has a little hole but it doesn't fit an allen key, it is just smooth inside. I don't know how to lock the inside so that I can turn the bolt on the outside
Hi Jenny, Thanks so much for your question and also for the follow up. I was about to head up to the shed to check as I couldn’t remember how I did it except I remember trying to figure out how to get my arm inside the machine and also undo the back… Thanks for watching the channel and I hope the video helps you fix your dryer!
Hi Robert, I wish I had of recorded that!!! From memory I think I got one of my girls to hold a socket on it from the inside while I undid the nut on the back. I hope you can get it off! Thanks for watching the channel. 🙏
@@selfrelianceaustralia166 Knowing it can come off is a good start. I duct-taped the internal rotating disc to the drum and then could get the external bolt off. Mine just seemed quite tight.
Hello there and thanks for the video. I have a question pleas:. I was replacing a drive belt on this model and when disconnecting the bearing nut, a few ball bearings spilled out. Does the bearing kit include a set of ball bearings?
Hi Robert, Glad you enjoyed the video. The kit only came with the one bearing which is a sealed unit. However…… the balls fell out of the bearing races on mine as well. Actually it just disintegrated. If you have loose ball bearings rolling around you might need to replace the sealed bearing. I’m not sure what other models are like but wouldn’t think they would be much different. Hope that helps… Thanks for watching the channel.
That’s not great Naomi. A couple of things you could check (and you probably already have…) is the belt on correctly, can you spin the drum with your hand without power on? Hope you can get it working again!!
Hi Ingrid. Thanks for your question. I did this job some time back and even well before starting this channel so my memory is vague on this. From memory, the washers/spacers go either side of the back plate. The larger one on the inside and the smaller one on the outside of the backing plate. (I hope that’s right…) the backing plate has the heating element on it.

Not to worry, i worked it out. Just the friction of my hand on the inside section was enough to allow another person to get the nut off the outside
