    I don’t watch liproll much but I do love matt and Marisha. It seemed like the host was interrupting every time they answered a question with her own anecdote. It became less about the audience meeting and getting to know these new guests and more about the host almost making it about herself. I’m a person who thinks it’s important to listen to what others are saying, not necessarily inserting a “mm” or “yeah” ever few words they try and get out and then taking what they were saying and twisting it into making it about the host. Yes, it’s good to show that you are listening to the person speaking but I could not make it through this podcast with the number of interruptions made on the hosts part. I like the idea of this, but it’s a dislike from me.

      Seth, matt and marisha had a blast! I think they took the high road in being humble and kind and not expecting Valerie to know what D&D was. @@LipRollSeries Out of curiosity, did anyone on the staff show Valerie even a 5 sec clip of Matt / Marisha before filming?
      I totally understand that D&D is a weird topic for the uninitiated. But Valerie is a vocal coach, so there's still a LOT of common ground with these two. Why not discuss the challenges of Matt's many accents? Or how the CR cast can improvise these emotionally authentic performances on the fly?

But nothing about what she was talking about was interesting or related to the core of what if Critical Role is. Should've let someone who knew them lead the interview instead of someone grasping and trying to relate to small things that make her personally feel more relevant to the conversation just because she obviously doesn't know anything about the guests or the game or the community or the change it's created.

There was no preparation on her part and most of her questions were built on the most mundane stereotypes like she just doesn't know any better. And then she would cut them off and tell of this one time when she did something amazing and somehow nobody cared. Her references were strictly pop-culture or personal: Fortnite, Game of Thrones, "the Comi Con", "Star-Trek-y things", and "this guy who I dated in Germany", I'm an empath, this other guy I dated... Perhaps well-intentioned but very poorly executed.

    Just trying to give an objective opinion, but this wasn’t the best interview. It would help if the interviewer the least bit of cursory research into who they’re about to talk to and what it is they do. It would avoid cringey statements like “is it like fortnight?” It unfortunately meant that half the conversation where Matt and Marisha were introducing your listeners or viewers to the main thing they do, they instead were talking about fortnight and some throwaway event that does not really represent what they do or what they’re about at all, all because your main interviewer needed some point of reference to understand... due to her lack of research. This continued on throughout I feel, it became more about her trying to figure it out and relate it to something she can understand rather than the guests.

    Also constructive criticism right? We don't want to put people down we want to make people better.
    I can tell you do want to know more about Matt and Marisha and I think because they are from a different sort of culture than the artist you usually work with that you felt the need to find common ground which explains why you kept referring to your experience so you could find that commonality. Perhaps leave out the details of your experiences when you find common ground and leave it to the interviewees to ask if they feel they would like to know more. If not then move on. I am really bad at doing that, because the minute I find commonality I cling to it like it's a life line and tend to ramble on to sort of fill in dead air in a conversation. Isn't it just basic knowledge that if you are going to be interviewing someone you should at least do some research. It's clear she didn't care enough to do so... Even if she didn't care. She shouldn't have let it show... So disrespectful.

      Hi Ginny! Thanks for the kind words! We love CR and thought it would be a fun conversation and it was. Wish that translated into the comment sections, but we totally understand the criticism from fans of CR wanting this to go deeper into the world of CR. Regardless we appreciate you writing us!

    Nearly stopped half way through because, ma’am, I’m all honesty, you’re a terrible interviewer. You may have all the Hollywood experience in the world, but it’s not about you. An interview is about those you are interviewing. Know why so many people love the critical role crew? Because they care about others and even when they’re talking about themselves they are humble, kind, and never condescending to others. Take some time and listen to the show Marisha produces, Between the sheets. Listen on 1.75 speed because you must be a very busy lady.

      @LipRollSeries  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, thank you for understanding. We throw Valerie into all kinds of new situations and she's just happy to have a conversation. She's been training people like Noah Cyrus, Alec Benjamin and Reeve Carney of Hadestown since before they were famous, she sees a side of people that others don't often, and she likes to keep that fresh curiosity no matter who walks in the door famous or not. Matt and Marisha are so kind and don't seem to mind the fact that music is her life and training creatives how to use their voice absorbs a lot of her free time. BUT she wants to try D&D, which we are very excited for. :)

    Super awesome to see Matt & Marisha on your show! Although I feel like there was a missed opportunity here. The blonde woman had a chance to learn about a realm of entertainment that is wildly different than her own but, she talked about herself A LOT. She came across as un-sentimental and totally un-relatable... maybe a little bit of a braggart as well.

    • @LipRollSeries
      @LipRollSeries  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tiger: The blonde woman is Valerie Morehouse, host of the show. She's a boss and responsible for a lot of careers lasting as long as they've had, she cares about voices and loves them as much as Matt and Marisha love D&D. You are seeing a convo of people with different passions, different interests, and different goals talking and having a good time. I don't think it's un-sentimental to discover someone else's passion for the first time. BUT we love hearing your thoughts and having conversations with those who watch and listen, so thanks for engaging!

    SO, I just know off the bat there's gonna be a lot of a certain type of critters who will be like, "why does the hot keep talking about her own career?", "she doesn't know anything about the show or d&d why is she doing the interview?"
    This interview isn't really about D&D and crit role, this interview is about being in a creative field, getting burnt by it, and then being your own sort of pioneer of something new and creative that you build yourself or with a loved one or peers. I created a Podcast Network with my wife a few years back, and as much as I'm a big crit role fan and d&d devotee--were I at the table, I would most likely be talking about my own experiences creating something with my wife and friends, and maybe a little bit about the sociological, psychological, philosophical great things about D&D, rather than like, "Let's talk about the greatest hits of the show."
    So the host, while not super knowledgeable about the content of the show, is actually a great one because she's asking very specific and interesting things about crit role as a content producer and startup.

    • @LipRollSeries
      @LipRollSeries  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Eline we love to talk about this because I think this is a conversation that comes up often with shows like ours. We value different artists in any field who use there voice, the truth is Valerie is a full time vocal coach who trains lots of clients and doesn't even know there stories yet she helps them in their most intimate of performances. This show isn't hosted by a journalist or reporter it's hosted by Valerie because she enjoys learning about the things she doesn't know and the people she doesn't know and even some clients of hers who she's trained for 10 years. These interviews aren't perfectly crafted or overly thought out, they're just meant to show a different side of guests and to have some fun. We will flub things all the time and not know everything about our guests, but she's trained everyone from Sia to Ozzy Osbourne to Josh Brolin and has done so by connecting with the person that's right in front of her in the moment. We love to see her process of connecting with insanely talented people like Matt and Marisha and that's what we're trying to convey, her honest way of connecting even if it comes across like "Jeeze she knows nothing about D&D!!!"

      @@elinesophie6134 Totally, we spent about two weeks doing background research so it can be in front of Valerie as she interviews. Our crew members are huge fans of CR and that's why they were booked. They said yes not because Valerie knows a lot about them but because I think they value Valerie's thoughts and opinions as a professional voice coach. Valerie is constantly on tour or in the studio with her clients and so the only time that's left is about an hour before an interview. Rather than pretending like she knows everything she just asks honest questions. Thanks for dialoging, that is one of our favorite parts about the show! @@LipRollSeries Two weeks of research? I would think that if there was that much research time involved that perhaps she would have seen a few minutes of critical role. • @GreyCountyGrillin

    Matthew and Marisha deserved so much better from the host. If you're not familiar with your guests, you need to do some research on who they are, what they do, and how they have inspired thousands and thousands of people. Talk about the charity work they've done on the show, raising thousands of dollars for numerous foundations. As a former interview host, she did a lot of things wrong. When the guests are speaking, don't keep going" right...right" you just keep quiet. Stop interjecting your own anecdotes, you make the interview more about yourself than your guests, which is not the point.

    What a missed opportunity to gain insight on a growing community of gamers and roleplayers. This is what happens when you have an interviewer who didn't take the time to research the guests well enough, or understand the needs of the audience these guests bring. While personal anecdotes may seem relevent for the interviewer in her attempts to relate to the guests, it fails in the goal of the interview itself which is to give the audience a reason to listen. The reason was the guests, not the interviewer.

    The plethora of comments about the host (and perhaps the support or lack thereof she received from her team) should say something.... Everyone has an off day, but this seems simply tone deaf. Do some research on your guests and why you're having them on......... Not just her, if it wasn't just her that negatively impacted preparedness... ask the guests questions. Curiosity makes for interesting conversation. This is just uncomfortable
