    Great video! only comment to other users watching would be to close the bypass a little earlier when the indicator is in the zone between inactive and active. but...you made a video and i didn't so kudos for a great vid!

    Blaze king stoves were originally made 20 miles from my home now they are in walla I believe but they are the best most long lasting stove option.

    I would never do it like that. At 3:46 you just literally see a huge amount of smoke coming out of the fireplace into the room. I could never accept that.
    What I recommend is to put in these huge logs first, then smaller ones and finish with the smallest. Start the fire at the top. Swedish method it's called. Search TH-cam for that.

    I have a blaze king in NZ A Sirocco model from memory. We just place a small amount of kindling with a fire starter in amongst it at bottom of firebox and then fill firebox to capacity.Flip bypass to open and open the temperature control to full. Light and shut door.Within ten minutes the temperature is in active mode, flip the bypass lever back to close and set temp control to your liking. Done. That's it for up to 12 hours. Our one smokes if you try to top up so we make sure its burnt down before re stoking.

    You're making this way harder than you need to! When starting, I fill my BK(K) almost to the top like I would when reloading. Leave a couple inches for smaller 3/4" to 2" pieces near the top, then kindling, then throw a small piece of fire-starter on top of that. Turn the stove to high (6:00), light, and close the door (but don't lock it tight). After a few min, lock the door and wait for the cat to get into the active zone, then engage it (still on the highest setting). I let mine rip for a few min before dialing the thermostat from the 6:00 position, to 4:30 for a few min, then leave it around 3:00 or so (or whatever temp you need). The door only opens ONCE and that original load is good for another 12+ hours.

    Good information. Thanks. I lit a Sirocco 20 today for the first time. At the end of the burn, do you open the bypass to let it burn out clean. In other words, after a 10 hour burn cycle do you open the bypass because the indicator is no longer in the "active" zone. Obviously a person may not always be there after 10 - 12 hours to monitor the "end." Is that OK?

    Those upside down fires still impress me every time it happens 👍. It’s strange, I have a Princess 32 and my thermostat dial is not marked “warmer, normal” etc. It’s just a blank dial.

      @sirromjb24 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm new to the Woodstove life, do I ever need to turn that dial all the way down? Or just leave it in that normal zone?

    • @diggergeensen860
      @diggergeensen860 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sirromjb24 I’ve never ran mine that low. Generally the thermostat dial on my stove runs between 25% open and 100% open depending on the weather etc. If you do end up dampening it down like that just make sure you run a hot fire for at least an hour a day to unload some of the creosote buildup that running it on low will create.

      @@diggergeensen860 will my home get warmer if I leave the damper open longer?

    • @diggergeensen860
      @diggergeensen860 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sirromjb24 Yes. The higher the air controller thermostat is set, the warmer the stove will be. However, you’ll have to load wood more often to keep it that way. It all depends on the temperature you like I guess. I live in Canada, where it’s cold. Once my fire is up to temp, and the bypass is closed, I generally run mine between the midway point and 3/4 open (between 2 and 3 on the air control dial shown in the video) Running it within that range heats my 2000 square foot home no problem, up until the temperature being around -25 Celsius outside. Any colder than that, and my natural gas furnace will kick on here and there. Mostly from people coming in and out the door. Letting the dog in and out etc. During the fall and spring warmer periods, I generally run the air controller within a lower range to keep the house from getting way too hot. Just be aware when you do that, you’ll have to keep an eye on, and manage you’re creosote buildup (especially if you have any 90 degree turns in your stove pipe/chimney setup!)

It’s literally terrifying smoke comes out all the sides when it happens…. 😬 but sometimes it’s my only heat source so I’ve just been leaving the door unlatched to keep it from happening but then I have to refill the wood every 4 hours or so…

    Can you use those “cleaning” logs in a blaze king?

    • @therealgstroker
      @therealgstroker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. the chemicals in the logs will affect the catalytic converter (read multiple times). its best to burn well seasoned hardwood. if you're in an area like myself that only has pine, burn with a fire that constantly has a small dancing flame to ensure fume combustion (the catalyst will also help) and inspect/clean your flue often. i have a bottom up flue brush that connects to a power drill and clean my flue about every 6 weeks due to the pitch in the wood available to me.

    Step 1: clean the glass . . the radiant heat needs to go through it. When dirty it heats the glass more than it needs to and weakens it over time . . RTM.

    I get smoke coming out the back of the stove when using the damper, I let the stove warm up like your videos shows.

    • @Lifeonthe49th
      @Lifeonthe49th  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jason, If your stove doesn't normally back puff out the back you likely need a chimney cleaning. If it is always doing that, then you portably need fresh air or make up air for it. When it is damped down try opening a near by door or window and see if it looks like the stove takes a breath. If neither of those options fix the issue I wonder if you have an outside chimney? A chimney that goes out the wall and runs outside of the house. Outside chimneys have down draft issues and are not recommended for catalytic stoves.
      Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

    To my mind, if one has to use a fan to assist the stove, then I'm not sure that it is a very efficient stove. I'm used to Morso stove from Europe, which is super efficient (not needing ANY fan assistance), and is very robust. Also, it is so efficient I can usually burn every day and only clean out ash after 3 weeks or so, removing a single trayful (but leaving about 2cms worth on the floor for insulation - as recommended by Morso). This indicates that the conversion rate of fuel to heat is really good. Of course we NEVER use pine as fuel. The build-up of flammable material in the flue is far too dangerous, possibly leading to blowbacks. With stoves, my belief is that you buy the best stove you can't afford, and then worry about how to pay for it! This obsession about "fire up and forget" stoves is baffling. Feeding a stove with fuel every two hours or so can't possibly be regarded as a major inconvenience, surely? A 2 minute chore is hardly going to derail your day's schedule, not in my world anyway! However, it may be that there are good reasons why it is necessary for long burns before feeding, so I guess there is a need for such stoves. I just haven't come across them in my experience. That's my penny's worth. Cheers!

      certainly don't need the fan, it just helps with efficiency. i use the fan on my princess to heat a 2,300 sqft (214 sqm) home from 65 to 73 degrees (18-22 C) in about 2 hours then turn it way down or off all together to maintain the temp so its personal preference.

    Bought a Blaze King Princess 32 wood stove last January and I am so highly disappointed. We have not even been able to burn it for two months straight. It has been pulled out of the house twice now for warranty work. I think this product is sheer garbage, and the customer service is no better. They do not care about the customer at all. I'll never recommend this product or company to anyone.
