I have to be honest...I have consumed so much media..I can basically predict anything...but the end to Monogatari and Ougis true identity eluded me completely but once you know it..there are signs for it everywhere. literally all over the place.
The anime adapted Bake to Zoku Owarimonogatari but trust me, there are a lot more light novels such as Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Amarimonogatari, Yoimonogatari etc.

why does anyone argue about Ougi's gender - Ougi is Ougi. that's what the show says. Ougi is an apparition given a sort of permanent existence by Oshino, but is still not technically human and therefore not bound by human concepts of gender. whatever you think of gender otherwise, applying gender to apparitions can be dicey. that said there's something hilarious about the notion that the literal form Araragi's self-loathing takes is a girl. seems fitting. despite how horny he is, Araragi is ultimately a simp. so much so that he had to invent a girl to dunk on him.
It's ultimately up to whatever the hell the viewer believes/thinks. When I talk about Ougi, I refer to her as she. Not because she is a she but because it naturally comes out from my mouth when I talk about her. It doesn't exactly matter what any of us call her, because Ougi is, and always will be, Ougi.
Also more about ougi being male in hanamonogatari, since i'm currently reading the novels that still not have an anime adaptation (Dunno if spoiler but still put warning) Ougi is also a male in other novels set during kanbaru's 3rd high school year/araragi first college year. And basically araragi states that ougi just decided to be kanbaru's doppelganger, and so he became a boy. So, ougi-chan=araragi, ougi-kun=kanbaru (summing up araragi's word). At the end as gaen said, ougi is born from araragi's sense of autocritic, but they are not only limited to that. So while still being araragi now that ougi's saved by the darkness they can become the alter ego of other people too. And being not human at the end they don't have a gender. Also in musubimonogatari, set when araragi is 23 years old, ougi is a girl again, and now is basically a doppelganger of neither kanbaru or araragi, just a sort of guardian of the school and urban legend
