There is only one word to describe a guy who only had a musical career by being friends with Vince Clarke and Martin Gore, and that word is "genius" (or maybe "lucky", very very "lucky").
1. He's the road-manager masquerading as a bandmember - hence all the gags, he's only a virtuoso on one instrument, it's called Sage 50. Get him a calculator and a box of receipts so he has something to do during Martin's spot. 2. Scots guy makes fun of gingers - Icelanders tell dumb blonde jokes - funny old world inn'it.
Also, from what he's said wasn't Limmy the 'Fletch' of the web deveolpment co he owned with Donny? Just a little dafty mascot to have around for a laugh?
Vince Clarke wrote nearly all of the first album. I think Martin wrote just one song for Speak and Spell. After he left, Martin took control of song writing duties.
Just stick to 1984 to 1993. Anything before or past that, is not worth bothering listening too. If want to go past 1993, then just stick to the singles. The albums after 1993, aren't great after that period.
I've played in a few bands and not once did I think "hmm, I should get the financial advisor out to clap a bit". No, fuck off! If your good at finances then stay in the office!
Was at a dinner with Anton in 2001. I asked him why Fletch was in DM. He said, "because he is Martin's best mate." That's it. I just hate that Fletch doesn't even keep fit to look good. A rock star shouldn't have a beer belly. He is fucking useless. The logo at the beginning of the video says .hr. Means they were in Croatia
Being the least talented of a band shouldnt discourage you from contributing and adding to the art, honestly Ringo was a good pop drummer and complemented the song writing Beatles. Fletch really does seem to do nothing but be a mate lol
I don’t think Ringo is a fair comparison because his songwriting was pretty good and his drumming style is what moved the Beatles forward granted that they had a few drummers before him. The Beatles had 4 extremely talented musicians who were crucial towards each other. Shame that Ringo and George’s songwriting didn’t get to shine as much due to having well Lennon-Mccartney center stage. As far as Fletch goes, i’ve heard he’s more of the business manager which is equally important for a band to have because it prevents a band from getting screwed over financially. Even the Beatles as amazing musicians as they are, ended up getting screwed over by the the industry because none of them understood the financial side after Epstein’s passing. Even McCartney has stated that they never read contracts and fully trusted Epstein to manage and advise everything finance related. Without Fletch, Depeche Mode probably would have finished in the 90s. I still am curious as to what Fletch contributes musically/creatively towards the band.

Believe it or not, Fletch does play, just VERY basic stuff e.g. monophonic bass lines, pads, samples etc. Pretty much all stuff that could easily just be put on the backing track
Wasn't just Fletch but that was a small part of it. Wilder/producers was doing most of the work, when it came to making the songs. At this point he's probably just there to complete the line-up; for the photographs. So they still look 3/4s the same band as from '81.
