I lived abroad for many years . I adopted a French/British way of dressing. Now home in Texas ..people keep wanting to put my collars down for me... smdh
Nothing we can do about fakes…I could care less how many people have the same bag as myself…that makes it really spoken for.. I hate when people say they don’t want a certain purse because everyone has it….well everyone has a hole are we gonna get rid of ours because of that? Everyone one does something different with their *gtdupe* for example their style, your style will set you apart.
The biggest change I’ve seen in my 50 years of styling is the modern approach of mixing items of different levels of formality/dressiness/casualness in our outfits. In my teen and most adult years, in the 70s through about 2000, like always had to be worn with like. One wouldn’t wear a silk blouse with jeans, for example, nor a cotton tee nor sneakers with a business suit. I love this change and have adopted the less extreme versions of it, but I still won’t wear dressy stiletto heels with jeans for example. I dress in a classic, quite “Smart” style and incorporating a casual element or two prevents my outfits from becoming too stuffy-looking. It’s an easy trick to get a more modern look. I still can’t bring myself to wear sneakers with my midi skirts and dresses, though, I feel stumpy in them, as a petite. A medium, block-heel shoe is my daily confidence booster.
Marie Anne, I am well over 80 years old and taking a new look at the way I present myself, post Covid and all the personal turmoil of the last few years. Your style ideas are refreshing and give me a new way to dress. I do need some new clothes and now I have some new ideas. Thank you.
Bonjour Lorna - that is so wonderful to hear 😃 I hope you will share this new phase of your style journey with us here in the French Chic Community by continuing to watch and post comments 😘
Your style teachings are much more realistic and achievable than others. Thank you for being so down to earth where I am. Loved all the outfits, especially the ruffled silk blouse with the denim pants. A lot of work, I know, but hope to see you model all the outfits at some point. Merci!
So glad I found your channel! I’m watching from Birmingham, Alabama USA. I just turned 60 this year and love a quiet elegance. Love the outfits you demonstrate. Chic is my goal. 😊
I was loving this topic very much. My favorite contrast outfit, which you demonstrate is the black silk long skirt with the black sweater and the leather heels! I was so impressed with that look. I never in a million years would have thought to put that outfit together ❤️ like that! That was very unexpected. Reminds me of something an old Hollywood star like a Greta Garbo type would wear and look at home and comfortable in no problem! ****That's why you are a style EXPERT. A PERFECT EXAMPLE !
I am delighted to have discovered this informative channel just yesterday. Anne Marie is a true style expert! These tutorials are simply amazing, and infused with her boundless French passion! So savvy, pure, and grounded in foundational fashion guidelines. Not just based on personal preference, or random popular opinion.
I am sorry I was not able to join you live today, but have enjoyed catching up. When I knew the livestream was about contrasts, I just imagined contrasting colours but there is so much more - contrast of texture and vibe - it has been very inspiring and will enable me to think more freely about how I put my outifts together Thank you very much Marie-Anne. xx
Thank you! This is great!! I am 69 with a dowdy wardrobe. I retired before covid and got into some very bad clothing habits. I need to fashion myself more but I don’t want to spend too much money on an outfit that I might only wear 3x a year. Using contrast and accessories I my become presentable!!! Thank you, again!.
I just love the elegant silk skirt with the black or white sweaters and the metallic heels. The light and ruffled shirt with the orange shoes and jeans too! I feel like I’ve found the friend I always wanted when I watch your videos! As a child I attended very traditional schools where the de facto dress code was very “preppy”. Somehow I was wired differently and wanted to wear something more beautiful and fun-similar to what you’re describing as French chic. When I got a little older going to France was the thrill of my life! It’s so fun to play with colors, textures, and styles and you’ve got so many wonderful ideas to share! Thank you!
I love the motorcycle jacket over the floral summer dress. Marie Anne is an encouraging Internet fashion presence and she can laugh at herself. I can't stand a stylist who takes herself too seriously. I'm 65 and pretty much invisible except to loved ones, but I still like to look good and her chic sense is just what I need. BRAVA!
Arguably the most important video so far. I'm buzzing! I wanted to see you wearing those outfits, but... got the idea. Thaaaanks Merci Beaucoup lovely!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It is impossible in a live video to change into the outfits Sonia and quite often I make them up on the spot although in this one I had a few pre-prepared 😘
Great video! Regarding denim jackets, I agree, I’m tired of that super casual look. However, I have a white one that I bought YEARS ago and rarely wore. Sleeves too tight and it never did anything to elevate an outfit UNTIL one day, I cut off the sleeves sleeves completely and wore it over a brown cotton tank and a long brown slim cotton skirt (beautiful Indian fabric) and sandals. Got loads of compliments. Moral? Don’t be afraid to reimagine an article of clothing that is not working as designed!
I don't wear jeans or any trousers but I love the look of the silk blouse with the jeans. I might wear it with a denim skirt. I also like the floral dress and leather jacket but where I live, it's way too hot for a leather jacket even in the evening.
So very delighted to have found your channel. Learning so much and really like your persona. The more I watch the more I am drawn in. After decades of work as professional business woman, working over a ‘40 year span of fashion’ in English Canada; I am retiring soon and now have the time to learn and play with dressing myself for my next phase of life. Yes to masterclass. Donna
I watched you video yesterday, on how to make oneself look taller. I have been struggling a lot with my style as I am losing weight to enable an operation on my very arthritic knees. During the last few years I have lost two and a half inches in height - from my legs! I immediately went online to order some winter clothes, following your rules and am so excited to look better and more elegant. My husband is kindly going to buy them for my birthday in September 😊
Thank you for your interesting and informative videos and generosity sharing your personal style. Yes to the masterclass. I liked the white on white outfit with the fluffy white top. BTW l really like your glasses frames - l went a bit crazy wearing large red framed glasses but now want something a little understated. ❤️
I love this 'contrasts' topics. It so amazing that adding a contrasting item, can lift an outfit so much! I love the advice about masculine /feminine contrasts and also the tips on textures. It allows a relook at whats already in your wardrobe to get an effect, without necessarily having to buy new stuff! Jx
Loved this video!!!! I have been watching you for a while and I picked up on the contrast !!!! I have found that sneakers work well with slacks!!! I have worn my lace tops with blue jeans and a tee shirt under the lace!!! Since watching you I have so much fun with the clothes, Thank You❤️❤️❤️
I missed the live stream, but it’s lovely to catch up with you all. Marie-Anne: You definitely look youthful and a little edgy with real class! So enjoying your videos, its fun and the other followers are interesting ❤
I must respectfully disagree with regard to a denim /“jean” jacket. I find that it adds a contrast between casual and smart, as well as a contrast between masculine and feminine. Of course it depends on the particular style of jacket; I have been wearing one from Eddie Bauer for years and years, that is very simple (no embellishments, embroidery, etc.). The shade of blue exactly matches my eyes and makes them really “pop.” So for me it’s a “wow.”Maybe not exactly French chic, but it reflects my style essence of elevated classics, but with a bit of current whimsy to avoid an overly classic, stodgy, boring look. Example: black jeans, black cashmere or merino sweater, and red kitten heels. To each her own! ❤️🇨🇦
YEs, I agree. It’s perfect for rule of contrasts. A pencil skirt, loafers or pumps, a silk blouse and denim is just so chic. It’s a fave go to of mine.
Thank you Marie-Anne for a fantastic video. You taught me quite a bit about contrasting fabrics and new ways to wear clothes. Yes, I'm all for a master class. I love the blouse and skirt made by Adeline.... Wishing you a nice week-end.
The first outfit is reduced by the trainers. I think you could go casual in footwear but in a very classic outfit it might be a good choice to use a classic material such as leather in a more casual shoe. Also some sneakers are made in a wedge which elevates (literally) the outfit and incorporates the casual/dressy contrast. A two toned oxford perhaps. What do you think? I love the black belt and the off white but any colors in a belt and matching shoe would add pizzazz. I love the fabulous jean and dress blouse. What I learned today is that contrast can be achieved with fabric and style as well as color.
@MarieAnneLecoeur I love trainers! I am the same age, and had always worked in a corporate world wearing corporate styles. I am now mixing jeans with silk blouses, and a nice pair of trainers are a life-saver when it comes to making your outfit more youthful! - especially with corporate styles that can age you 10 years!
Alison: Los Angeles New to your "classes". Have been "binge watching" for 3 weeks. I have learned so much! Redoing my closet, it looked like a circus threw up in it.
Welcome to the French Chic community! H ha, love your comment😂. I too binge-watched Marie Anne’s posts and videos when I first came across her site. And I’m sure that you are finding that even the older posts/videos still offer advice and comments that are just as applicable today. ❤️🇨🇦
Hi from Florida. I binge watched about six months ago when I found her. She’s amazing. You made me laugh so hard with your circus comment. My closet looked like that, too. Things I thought looked good did not when I looked with M-A’s eyes. I keep donating…..😂
Hello Marie-Anne, it’s so nice to see you again. I’m healing taken me 2 years!! and I’m beginning to enjoy life again, I just painted my own nails “French tips” is that really French? You look fabulous, you’re so inspiring ❤ 😊
Bonjour Lisa - it is lovely to see you again and I am glad to hear that you are now better. I understand the term came into use in the 1930s when the neutral nail, white tip look was marketed by Maxfactor for their French fashion issue. The term ‘French manicure’ was used by Jeff Pink when he renewed the connection by distributing kits for the manicure to French runway models in the 1970s. This could all be street legend though!
Good day, I thank you for sharing your creative, talented knowledge. I love to mix layers. It’s textures and colors ( contrasting ) are a must for our minds, body and souls. It’s like designing my home- inside and out. landscaping with layers and textures and colors all changes with the season … or not 😊 CONTRAST! For me, it’s perfectly fine to wear a light weight dark color sweater during the summer or a light weight warm color sweater during summer evenings or maybe a loud abstract colorful scarf. with simple affordable elegant accessories.😉 Very long off white flowing curtains during winters are nice. It’s pleasing to the eye so much so that I can have a quiet, comfortable nights sleep in my blue thin pinstripe satin PJ’s with pockets. (a must) 😅 My living room, kitchen, bath etc., are also mixed with modern, antique furnishings, chic or contemporary colors. I like all my clothes including underwear and lingerie (Silk, satin or flannels are included.)😉 to be comfortable against my body. I want my furniture comfortable for my body and my paintings to connect and contrast throughout my home. I love to have fun (playtime)while deciding on what designs will work for me. It is satisfying. If it’s overwhelming, it’ll become complicated and the anxiety isn’t worth it. ❤ I cannot forget, I actually am on a budget.😅 I did go on a bit of a tangent. I apologize. I do appreciate all of your knowledge and experiences throughout your life. Completely important and impressive. With much love, I Thank you.❤
I think your choice of contrast for an outfit (and your examples) are absolutely perfect. However, my personal question would be “How to make your choice of contrast in choosing footwear, eg. Flat shoes as opposed to something with a high heel when the length of the trouser is too long to wear with a flat shoe / trainer, converse etc.?”
A good question Barbara - if you do not want to go the the trouble of re-hemming your trousers you may not be able to. When I find a pair of pants that really suit me I buy two and have different lengths for different footwear - but that is an exceptional case and I grant that many couldn't afford this option. I have a really long pair of pants that I can only wear with a pair of platform boots and the pairing is so good I don;t mind only being able to wear them with one pair of shoes!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Thankyou for your reply MarieAnne ……….. I thought there might be a “perfect” length that would suit both, and did not want to be extravagant when it was unnecessary, however your answer is what I unconsciously knew. I am an avid admirer of yours and like you, if I have an item of quality that I have had in my wardrobe for “many” years I do not get rid of it just for the sake of it “ I find a fresh way to wear it”.
Brilliant, really enjoyed and will be using some of this knowledge you have shared. Always tried to match but now like the contrast better, and will give confidence. Thank you
Love your videos! thank you so much for making them. I must confess I do not have a floral dress. I’m 66 5’2 and 115 lbs, I have tried to wear floral but I find I end up looking like a child or a granny! I do dress a little younger for my age, perhaps sometimes a little younger than I should. I like an elegant / sexy look, Versace meets Max Mara🤭 I would love for you to do a video on this type of look❤🤗Someone said I dress like a French woman. Made me feel so good!
Hi Marie-Anne thank you for your terrific ideas. Always to helpful. I’m afraid I just can’t come at sneakers especially when there are so many gorgeous shoes. I often see women beautifully dressed and then they add sneakers 😫 I love coloured feminine shoes and loafers and brogues. Personally I think Yves St Laurent was the most skilful contrasting colours. So much fun.😊❤❤❤
I've had a black "biker" jacket for about 20 yrs, I'm so happy it's chic and I'm not too old to wear it with a flowery dress (which I also assumed was "too old" to wear.) Merci!
Je vous découvre xxx. My wardrobe has now multiplied exponentially. Thanxxx so much !! I relish my honeymoon in Paris in 1976. Vive la France et Bonnes Olympiques ! 😘✌️
I've noticed a lot more of these contrasts the last few years. It really became obvious when everyone was wearing sneakers with just about anything (same with leather jackets). It looks great, but I don't see myself doing a lot of that. It was a stretch for some of us to get away from the matchy matched outfits (some people still do these and it really looks wrong these days). I do tend to stick to a color palette, no prints, two-three colors, but the unexpected surprises are still a bit of a challenge. Thanks for the video!
I just found you with this video. This is great. I contrast all the time but didn't know it - rock tee with suit, Converse, etc. I got so many ideas from you. My favorite is the jeans with ruffle blouse. Love it. I wish I could get those jeans in the states.
Wonderful topic! Thank you❤. I have too many smarter pieces that don’t fit my lifestyle anymore but with your contrast tips I can wear something a bit smart with my jeans and sneakers and it looks fantastic without making me feel overdressed 👍
@@MarieAnneLecoeur .. Hot flashes! 🥵 I would love to be more polished. As soon as I pull on that pretty sweater or that pretty blouse with sleeves.. it's a matter of moments before it all comes right back off again.
Marie Anne is the inspiration for quiet luxury. She's an OG and an icon.
Merci Juliana 🤗

I get it but prefer stylish comfy shoes to tennis shoes (like Fly London) to tennis shoes, ugly!
I like block heels also. Won’t wear sneakers with a dress.
Knowing your own needs and adpating to your style is very French Chic Kimberly 🤗
I agree, especially sneakers with a dress as a chunky, 68-yr-old petite - to me it reminds me of how a granny dressed when I was younger. 🤣
Flats do nothing for a women’s figure…can’t abide sneakers with dresses or skirts…sigh. Love this channel.

Yes to more Master classes with contrasts! Also, what purses and handbags would be helpful!

YES to masterclass please. I’m 37 but I learn a lot from you. French Chic style goes with almost any adult age. I love your work Marie-Anne❤️
Definitely an impressive surprise.
As we age we must protect our health and our mental health too. If you dress well then you feel better and people respond well.

A master class would be wonderful!
Good day,
I thank you for sharing your creative, talented knowledge.
I love to mix layers. It’s textures and colors ( contrasting )
are a must for our minds, body and souls.
It’s like designing my home- inside and out.
landscaping with layers and textures and colors
all changes with the season … or not 😊 CONTRAST!
For me, it’s perfectly fine to wear a light weight dark color sweater
during the summer or a light weight warm color sweater during summer evenings or maybe a loud abstract colorful scarf.
with simple affordable elegant accessories.😉
Very long off white flowing curtains during winters are nice.
It’s pleasing to the eye so much so that I can have a quiet,
comfortable nights sleep in my blue thin pinstripe
satin PJ’s with pockets. (a must) 😅
My living room, kitchen, bath etc., are also mixed with
modern, antique furnishings, chic or contemporary colors.
I like all my clothes including underwear and lingerie
(Silk, satin or flannels are included.)😉
to be comfortable against my body.
I want my furniture comfortable for my body and
my paintings to connect and contrast throughout my home.
I love to have fun (playtime)while deciding on what designs
will work for me. It is satisfying. If it’s overwhelming, it’ll become complicated and the anxiety isn’t worth it. ❤
I cannot forget, I actually am on a budget.😅
I did go on a bit of a tangent. I apologize. I do appreciate all of your knowledge and experiences throughout your life. Completely important and impressive. With much love, I Thank you.❤
Very many of us are on a budget Christine 🙏 French Chic is perfect for that - as style does not have to be expensive 😘
Thank you
You are very welcome Rosalind x
Cher Marie-Anne, love your technique of inserting French into your dialogue. A bien tot, ma cherie X:)
Merci Vyvien 😘
Excellent work in explaining and teaching. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it Lulu 😃
Love your videos! thank you so much for making them. I must confess I do not have a floral dress. I’m 66 5’2 and 115 lbs, I have tried to wear floral but I find I end up looking like a child or a granny! I do dress a little younger for my age, perhaps sometimes a little younger than I should. I like an elegant / sexy look, Versace meets Max Mara🤭 I would love for you to do a video on this type of look❤🤗Someone said I dress like a French woman. Made me feel so good!
That combination sounds wonderful Clarissa 😃
Finally! Love it. Thank heaven zI sent to charm school when 21; now 70. Still there.
❤️
You looked absolutely gorgeous in those classes you were wearing at the beginning!

I love these videos Marie-Anne, thank you so much!
You are looking very well. Perhaps the spring? 🤩
It must be spring Bodesse 😃
Your summer dress with the leather jacket made me excited to try my eyelet lace white sundress with a denim jacket. I'm excited to see if it works.
Let me know how it goes Tina 😃
I also love the dress with leather jacket. Can I ask what shoes did you wear with it?
Love the Clarks with the pencil skirt!
No worries at all - rock your shoes and leave the sneakers alone - stand out in your style 👍
Wow!!! I'm enlightened! It's a joy to watch your show. Thank you.
I am glad you enjoyed it Vickie 😃
Your hair looks amazing!
❤️
Thank you, Marie Anne. Very good information...Blessings...
👌🏿
I loved the video!! Thank you!
🤗
I love Marie Anne and all the videos you give us! Merci beaucoups!
🤗
I've had a black "biker" jacket for about 20 yrs, I'm so happy it's chic and I'm not too old to wear it with a flowery dress (which I also assumed was "too old" to wear.) Merci!
I bet you will rock it Etta 😎
Thanks for the encouragement! What's your lipstick color? I've got your coloring
Hello Marie Anne. My favourite was the jeans with the frilled top and orange shoes and 2nd the off white pants and sweater lovely video x
🤗
I' love texture in art as well as in clothing. It makes people wonder what I'm up to or what kind of statement I'm making. .
Style is Art Kimberly 😃👍
Wowza! You’ve introduced fashion to this gal
🙌
Wowza indeed.😉
I have a great leather jacket similar to yours. I wear it with dresses too. It looks fab
😎
Very funny Marie Anne I love your presentations and I always gleam some wonderful clothes tips ❤️
Glad you enjoy them Lyn x
Thanks Marie Anne. Cheers
Bon jour Marieanne❣️I would wear pumps or heeled sandals with the suit and a blouse.🥰
Great idea!!
Je vous découvre xxx. My wardrobe has now multiplied exponentially. Thanxxx so much !! I relish my honeymoon in Paris in 1976. Vive la France et Bonnes Olympiques ! 😘✌️
Merci Johanne x
I've noticed a lot more of these contrasts the last few years. It really became obvious when everyone was wearing sneakers with just about anything (same with leather jackets). It looks great, but I don't see myself doing a lot of that. It was a stretch for some of us to get away from the matchy matched outfits (some people still do these and it really looks wrong these days). I do tend to stick to a color palette, no prints, two-three colors, but the unexpected surprises are still a bit of a challenge. Thanks for the video!
It is a question of experimenting at home Julie and trying things out 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Yes, that's true, but the unexpected pieces are part of that too.
Hello. Lisa from Alaska. YES for master class.
👋
I wore another dress again yesterday Marie Anne. 😊
😃👍
I just found you with this video. This is great. I contrast all the time but didn't know it - rock tee with suit, Converse, etc. I got so many ideas from you. My favorite is the jeans with ruffle blouse. Love it. I wish I could get those jeans in the states.
Bonjour Lara and welcome 🤗 I am glad you got some good takeaways and hope you will continue watching 😘
Just love summer dress with leather jacket. 👍❤️
😎
Please tell us more about your books.
I have two best sellers and three others 😃 They are available on Amazon 😘
Wonderful topic! Thank you❤. I have too many smarter pieces that don’t fit my lifestyle anymore but with your contrast tips I can wear something a bit smart with my jeans and sneakers and it looks fantastic without making me feel overdressed 👍
Sounds perfect Jane 😃
I enjoy watching your channel. In the end, I'm sneakers, jeans and t-shirts just like I've always been. Still fun to imagine myself in something else.
You are very welcome Hedy. Why not try throwing on a jacket with that ensemble and feel the lift 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeur .. Hot flashes! 🥵 I would love to be more polished. As soon as I pull on that pretty sweater or that pretty blouse with sleeves.. it's a matter of moments before it all comes right back off again.
