I installed the Fulton Panel Max Glue Press in my shop so I could glue up large panels and table tops and not use up floor space. This clamping system takes advantage of the wall space and applies pressure in 4 directions.

Thanks so much! It does save on stress so long as you don't try to glue too big of something while your glue is setting up. ha ha. Glue ups can always be stressful.
I have this system and it works great. A couple of tips I have found. I ended up writing numbers on all of the holes to make it easier to make sure the bottom pieces were all in the same position. I also used some small bungies to keep them closed when not in used. I also use extra clamps like you did.

Interesting! Enjoyed the look at that product. We usually cut our titebond just a bit, to extend its set time. I know the practice is generally frowned on, but we’ve never had a glue up let go. We also choose to forego any joinery. Nothing wrong with using biscuits or such, but for a production shop they just add time. We have a ton of old 6’ bar clamps, lay out the glue ups on horses, throw on the clamps, pivot them off the horses, and go to the next set. They all just lean against a wall until they’re dry. 😊

Yep! ha ha. It's all a process...trying to do all the work and it is just taking some time to set stuff up.

interesting product! i used something similar a few years back when i did the Jory Brigham class, but it was a little bit different than this. this one looks like it takes up less space for sure 👌🏻

I have the same clamping system. I use the bar clamps at the bench to hold the piece together, then lift it into the wall camps.

I just did my first glue up in this system. It was a 20 inch board out of 4 pieces. Super simple. However I had the clamps positioned to low. No big deal I got it out and back in but on a big glue up that would be very frustrating. Nice save.
Thanks. Yeah, I have learned my lesson that. Need to prepare ahead of time a bit more and for large ones, I like doing it in two stages so the glue doesn't dry out on me.
Hi Bruce, I had my doubts about this system and wanted to buy the Plano, but seeing your video, I ordered directly these Panel max system, much cheaper as Plano.
Thanks for sharing, I cannot wait getting these. I have a huge project, for 2 kitchens I want to glue all cabinets ,doors, fronts and top with solid wood instead of these laminated plywood parts!

I think you'll like them. If you're doing really wide panels, you might consider doing them in two different glue ups. It gets a little hectic to get a large one done and in the clamps before the glue starts to dry.
Did you use a time machine to install this? Glad you have some old footage to keep things going. Hope your new shop setup is going well!

Hey Bruce, got here from the Jennie & Davis blog. Just out of curiosity, did you contemplate building your own panel glue-up - clamping area? I will have to look into the setup you have and compare costs and time. It looks super handy and you don't lose a horizontal surface like you do with conventional clamps.
Panel glue ups were always done on the floor or on a bench before I saw this system. Having it up on the wall is a huge space saver!
I have a Plano system which is a carbon copy of the Fulton. It seems to work well for edge joining like you did but not so good if you are laminating to make thicker stock. I'm thinking this clamp is too lightweight to squeeze the bars together. I'm interested in the Frontline 4way clamps which appear to have a better mechanism for pulling the bars together (but at twice the price).
Hmmm...interesting. I've never tried to laminate stock together to make thicker with it.
Hi Bruce. I see it is over a year since you started using this system. Can you give a quick summary of the pros and cons of this that you have learned.
I would especially be interested in whether this is as effective as using cauls to reduce/avoid bowing during glue-up.

I have not been using it in my shop recently. Don’t have room for it at the moment. My friend has a production shop and used it all the time. It does a pretty good job at keeping them flat without cauls. He often takes countertops out of the clamps and straight to sanding.
Do you find now the clamps are effective as initially thought - that is, do you recommend them?

I will say, I can probably get them tighter and get any error out of them a little easier with just parallel clamps, but for the reason that it is on the wall and not taking up floor space, and then it can dry there out of the way, I would say it is a good way to go for large panels. I know a production woodworking shop that does a lot of countertops and tables and they use it all the time...way more than I do.

Hey Bruce, do you still use these clamps? If so, what are your thoughts 2 years on?
I actually don't. I moved shops/states a couple of years ago and have not had wall space for them. I've been in a much smaller shop. They do take up a good bit of wall space, but they do work well if you do a lot of countertops/panel glue ups.
Why not remount it rotated clockwise so you can swing the arms open like a door instead of lifting everything up and over it? ;)
Not a bad idea. I feel like you would fight a lot of gravity that way.
Seems like a good but somewhat frustrating system to use. I can see the glue setting before all panels in place
If you don't watch it, I could easily see that happening. Definitely easier with two people. And I found it was easier to glue in sections, rather than trying to do an entire tabletop in one go.
Looks like it's way more trouble than it's worth - which is summarized below in that it's no longer being used.

Dang, that looks not user-friendly at all. When I first saw this system on Amazon the first thing I thought was that the top knobs look really difficult to work with, especially when under the pressure of glue beginning to set up. You convinced me to not get them. Thank you so much for a great video.

Overpriced and unnecessary. You can diy as good or better for 1/5 the price
Nearly everything in woodworking is extremely overpriced. I honestly expected to see this price closer to $1000
