Loaning players in football (soccer) is typically done when a top talent is having an off-season performance. A team might send a first-round pick like Zion to the Spurs to help him regain confidence in his game and improve as a player. Alternatively, if a player is returning from an injury and the coach thinks he is not ready, they might send him to a team that's lower in the conference to get more playing minutes. Another reason for loaning players is to reduce cap space for a year on a player's contract and have the team loaning the player pay the salary.
58 game season. Everyone plays each other once at home and once away from home. Just like soccer and various other sports leagues. 82 games is too many for fans to care plus less games would cut down on the airline emissions.
I think 41 games is a bit drastic, but I can not understand why the league has 82 games instead of 72. With 72 games, you play every team in the other conference twice and your own conference three times. It reduces the load while being able to build cool narratives.
If the ball gets blocked near the basket and knocked out of bounds, the defender that blocks the play should get possession. Big blocks should be rewarded more.
I feel like the renting player solution would be such a chemistry killer though, firstly you don't have time to develop chemistry with your knew teammates, then you gotta turn around to play with teammates you haven't played with in a year?
Could have it like football, where there's a specific period where you can loan out the players. Spending half the regular season on a team should be enough to build chemistry for the playoffs. If it works there, why can't it work for basketball, especially since it's more games, so more time to build chemistry for the playoffs.
@@gabez_og Except players don't usually care about what's best for the team that way. Fans GREATLY overestimate the loyalty players have to teams outside of the actual games they're playing in. The number of times I've seen players in interviews or podcasts get roped into conversations around stuff like this, only to respond with "Nah, it's about getting your bag" is hilarious. No player is going to care about helping the organization they are contractually obligated to play for get a better draft pick. It's like going to a career fair to scout someone to take your job.
The NBA should relegate teams and promote teams like in the Premier league. The bottom team of each conference drops into the G-League and the best 2 from the G-League enters the NBA. Makes the middle and lower ends of the conferences more interesting and discourages tanking.
The very first thing I would do as commissioner is ban official sports betting. Gamble on sports in your neighborhood, at a sports bar, at home, whatever. NBA Cup winners should be able to choose their playoff opponent in the first round. (Teams have to qualify for the playoffs in the first place). And if you somehow win the cup but don't make it into the Play-In, you get the 10 seed
I do agree that the number of NBA games needs to be cut down. However, you have to think about when your playoffs start as well. If it was just 41 games then that means the playoffs start right now. Well what’s going on right now? The NFL & CFB playoffs. Essentially you are taking a risk of fans of both basketball & football needing to choose your sport to watch over the other. And considering football is a one & done playoff league that means more fans will be willing to watch what’s basically elimination games every week instead of their favorite NBA teams who might be 2-2, 1-0, 2-0, 1-1, etc. in a best of 7 series.
@ not a bad idea but then you’d be dealing with the same issues that the NBA Cup is trying to fix but worst. The reason the NBA Cup is a thing in the first place is because no one cares about the first 10-20 games of the NBA because no one knows who’s contenders or pretenders then, and there’s so many more games to be played. If you start around Christmas now your first 10-20 games are competing with viewership over the CFB playoffs & the last few weeks of the NFL + their playoffs. And I don’t have to tell you which of those things fans would be more interested in watching. Leading to possibly even bigger dips in rating & viewership at the start of the season.
In the EPL I believe they have a rule where players can’t play against their “parent” team. Would be an awkward dnp especially if teams matchup during the playoffs
@therightfulheir not quite. Players absolutely play against their actual team when they are on loan. Leads to some incredible stories when a team gets knocked out of a cup tournament by their own player's goal.
Basically this is what would happen LaMelo will have the most assists Wemby will break the scoring record like they said LeBron getting booted off the Lakers and the Cavs gonna take him 😂 lastly WHAT ABOUT THE 4PT LINE 😭
Cut the games,One at home, one away, with a champions league esque tournament troughout the season(the old format, with the 32 teams, expand the league). Love the loan idea.
Move Memphis to the east, add Seattle and Vegas to the west. 8 divisions of 4 teams each. Play the 3 teams in your division 4x each, the other 12 in your conference 2x each, the 16 in the other conference 1x each (half home and half away) for a 52 game season. NBA cup groups are by division. Less games = more intensity, much less travel for teams, more local rivalry, no back to backs etc.
NBA needs to bring back rougher defense. Not calling every touch etc. Its eventually going to lose popularity if the 3 point shootdown wont stop. 25x 3 pointers tried per game should be enough for the game to be interesting. When hand checking was alive and well, defenders had more impact.
The modern players can defend just as well as the 90s players, they just need the ruleset to cater for them, just like the 90s players. I'd start to watch live games again if they did something along those lines with the rule changes.

All Star format renewed east vs west + 3rd team of "snubs" round robin competition over the weekend top two teams Keep/Gain all star status bottom team loses all star status makes it competitive e.g. contract bonuses, pride, rivalries between players
Nah, all you need is this: - East vs. West - whichever conference wins gets 2x the amount of wins with every victory over a team from the opposing conference - whichever conference loses gets 2x the amount of losses with the same parameters - lasts for 5 games against teams from the opposing conference
Here the changes i would make personally: ***My 9 NBA Changes*** 1. The regular season would be 75 games. The first 25 are from the first week of October to Christmas day, then break, Next from first week of January to the all-star break and final stretch is post all-star break. 2. To qualify for regular season awards you must play 50 of the 75 games and you must play for 30 minutes in all 50 games so no trying to only play a few minutes from game to game you gotta get a half of basketball per game. 3. The first round is a Best of 5 series no best of 7 and the first 3 of the 5 games are played in the higher seeds home court and the final 2 games if needed are played on the road 4. All regular season awards are handed out before the playoffs 5. Under 2 minutes ALL points except for free throws or foul shots are 3. That means a lay up, dunk, mid range or 3 point shot are 3. Yes that means the final score will be jacked up in numbers but it makes EVERYONE an option down the stretch so no trying to camp at the 3 point line. Imagine a team down by 9 with 2 to go and they get three straight dunks to tie the game up. 6. For the All star game its a "first to 75 points or more game. All 3s are 2s and all 2s are 1s. Also the all star teams would be 15 players each because every 25 points you have to rotate the entire roster. So for example say you play: Lebron, curry, AD, Luka and Jokic to start for the west, once they score 25 points or more you have to pull them out and with the remaining 10 make a new 5 man line up, ans once you hit 50 you sub them our for your final 5 and they have to close so each group of 5 gets one chance to play so you have to be careful who you start and switch. Also the line ups have to be made right before the game starts so no one knows when they play. 7. Brinf back hand checking and remove the 3 second defense violation. Im 24 so i wanna see if that actually makes a difference in the game 8. Flopping will be punished!: - first offense is a foul the opposing team shoots 2 free throws - second offense is a foul and tech 1 the opposing team shoots 3 free throws - third offense is a tech 2 and foul out the game and the opposing team shoots 3 free throws and gets possession So if you flop 3 times you: • Foul out the game • give the opposing team 8 points and the ball 9. I call this "Timeouts for time" under 2 minutes to go if a team has any remaining time outs they can exchange time outs for time. Each time out is worth 15 seconds and this can only be done in the 4th quarter when under 2 minutes so if a team has 2 time outs they can exchange them for 30 seconds more or maybe a whole minute if you have them.
