That’s Nick D’Virgilio. He’s played with Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Spock’s Beard (my personal favorite), Big Big Train, Cirque du Solei, Totem show, he’s a multi instrumentalist who can play drums, guitar, bass, piano, and this year, he has a new album out called Invisible. It’s an incredible record!!!! I should know because he gave me a signed vinyl record copy of Invisible!!!!! Every song on that record is amazing!!!! My particular favorite is Where’s the Passion. I have no doubt in my mind that Invisible will achieve Platinum status!!!!
Nick is pretty much the best person I could imagine to demo drums- based on the videos I have seen of him on this channel. Class act and amazing player! Oh yeah and these drums look sweet.
+Chris Munton He is actually quite an accomplished musician. Go check him out on wikipedia. Spock's Beard is insane prog rock (he didn't even play the drums!)
So many people think this kit sucks because it says Pearl on it. If Sweetwater played a joke on everyone and changed the front kick heads, shell hardware, and badges to DW, and nobody knew, everyone would say it's an awesome kit. Personally I think Pearl make awesome kits, and this kit sounds fantastic!
I did a kit shoot out between the Pearl Reference Pure and a DW Collector's (With a rare high end finish, no less), and I *strongly* preferred the sound of the Pearl kit. The Reference Pure has a much more deep, rich tone than the DW. I think DW has the best brand in drumming right now, but really, at this level of kit, none of them are bad, just different, and it's a matter of preference. Hating on the Reference Pure because it's Pearl is just being close-minded though.
Didn't know people hate on pearl. I just don't care for these toms, not enough tone fir me. With ambassadors there should be more tone than this. With emperors like I like to use these would sound dead
I believe that the Pearl company has led the way in drum innovation for many years . My first Pearl kit was about 48 years ago ! (I am old !!) . Like most Japanese products they gave themselves a bad name with sub standard products when they started and that reputation unjustly still lingers . Case in point Yamaha's pianos , as good as a Steinway ! ( Great drums too). These reference kits are heavy but what a great musical instrument and hardware is the best.
A kit like this would be useful for either a touring band with roadies or it will be sitting in someone's house. No drummer is schlepping this kit around. That's for sure..
Thanks for explaining the mic setup. I am becoming a big fan of overheads and kick(s) only. Wide open drums without close mics sound so much better to me.
You can really tell the difference in tone between the 10 and 12" toms. They DO sound like they each belong to a different kit. I seriously think the 12" tom sounds the best out of all those drums!
Beautiful sound, but the best VALUE kit I’ve come across and sounds fabulous as well, is the Mapex Black Widow. It’s very affordable, compared to the very expensive drums around today.
Awesome and beautiful kit. Only problem I see with kit is the position of the ride cymbal, almost at an uncomfortable playing angle. Then again, it was set up for display and features.
thats Amazing drumset i just Wonder if she ll depts are preset already ?..like if want a 12x5 or 12x12 Tomtom or 24x24 or 24x22 bassdrum i can do it? as u can tell those are kinda weird sizes ....
@@clever8088 lol yes actually. He does tune them in other videos before starting the video but here, he didn't to show how the drums sound right out of the box
Hey sweetwater, or anyone reading this comment, I know I'm late, but could any body tell me what microphone stand is being used to hold the overheads? Thanks.
lmfao! you want $6000 for a reference kit?! for a little more you could get a masterworks with any options you want. If you want a killer deal have a dealer look at Pearl's B stock list. Back in 2002 I got a B-Stock double bass 8 piece Masterworks kit for $1400
Mienl cymbals are shit as far as im concerned ive not heard a good cymbal they have made plus they sound to cheap and look cheap.. I like the paiste pst8 reflectors in the 18inch. But thats me.
Why do pearl toms ALWAYS sound like cardboard boxes to me?? I cant figure it out. No matter the heads, sticks, or player, just no tone. I actually gave away an Export ELX set because I couldnt get any tone.
I did a similar order myself recently - I got 6 toms, 2 kicks, 4 octobans, and a snare, with gold hardware, and that was around $10,000 USD. If you ditch the gold and octobans, you're probably looking at around $8,000-$8,500.
Ah, I saved up for a good few years to be able to justify that expense, hehe. But, I think it is right around $1,000 USD per shell, so a standard 5 piece (3 toms, kick, snare) would run around $5,000 USD, perhaps slightly more. It's expensive to be sure, but the sound is second to none from the kits I've played and heard.
Really irks me when he says the dimensions backwards. Example: standard snare is 5x14 when it's actually to most drummers14x5. Diameter by depth not the other way around
SiREN-DRUMS no doubt brother maybe you should suggest that to the sweetwater nuclear physicist engineers lol jk I'm a Keller /tama /dW guy and for being wide open these pups sound kinda chocked
Finally - a drum demo video with a drummer who actually knows how to hit a tom.
Chalres Leavenworth ikr
You mean there is only one way? Lol, that is absurd

Amen, Randy!
I like pearl, DW, and Ludwig they all look great and sound great

Unless you're a cathedral organist, drumming is the most expensive instrument to play
Or a Violinist! 🙂
Violins and other orchestral instruments are like a million dollars each. Same with people who’ll only play grand pianos.
A lot of orchestral woodwind instruments can get up there in cost too.
There are pianos out there that cost more than a house.
Any professional instrument will be expensive
Beautiful wrap on those drums.
18" floor toms
Get down low where you need to go.
YES!
That's nothing-
I have 20" floor toms!
20-inch?! Wow!!
Matthew Paluch
That's crazy.
I've got four 18s, but never have I tried a 20.
One day...
Dude my bass is 18
I Have always craved a 18" Floor!! But 20" Thats like whattttttt

Killer sounding kit!! Great demo too.

Underrated comment
Really?
Thank you Nick ! Excellent video and demo. Thank you for not going crazy on the cymbals and stuck to the drums!! 🥁
Nick's got some killer groove!
Wow that snare sounds so so good
Nick is a beast and totally underrated.

Nick has the best job in the world.
I love the Reference series, but that snare!
I see Nick's breaking out the big guns! Outstanding drummer!
This is what a proper drum set looks like
Sorry I don't have $7000
BustaBeats Drums lmao same, but I'll stick to my custom made SJC kit which is like $2000 cheaper
CR7TheGunner $5,000 is still very expensive!
Aw. Get a job then you can save money and have $7000 and not whine on TH-cam.
69th like 😏
I found a kit for 779$
very beautiful kit nick.
Fantastic drums. Great demo Sir!!

These sound really clean man!
I only watch these videos so I can hear nick's playing
Absolutely gorgeous. ☮️
excellent presentation!
I'm obsessed with this video. Lol.
Damn I really wish they sold this kit still. That is a fine kit right there
Nick is awesome!
Nick is fricken Jammin on drums!
Nick, you kind of sound like Casey Kasem when you talk. you could always get a gig doing America's Top 40 on the radio. LOL
Bryan Forth yes or shaggy lol

As they would say in Boston..... FAAAKIN' BAUUUTIFUL!!!

Great demo Nick! I'm not a
Pearl fan but I really did enjoy
your playing!
Well sir you need to realize Pearl makes great drums by the way. You guys are over exaggerated about Dw. Your skill on the drums matter the most ok.
i can see why its got city in the name this is my first choice when it comes to drums in the city
Beautiful sound, but the best VALUE kit I’ve come across and sounds fabulous as well, is the Mapex Black Widow.

Beautiful just like me!
Nice video!
Song: Life is a Lie by Auf Das Dussel (live at Home Of Gregolo 2008)
Awesome and beautiful kit. Only problem I see with kit is the position of the ride cymbal, almost at an uncomfortable playing angle. Then again, it was set up for display and features.
With the tuning and the mics and mixing,
Nick could make a kit from Walmart sound good.
“Let’s get to those sizes right now”!
Idc nothing about the kit I love the snare drum
that's a lot of drum!
Sounds like a $6k drum kit, all right. Click the link and it's already been sold.
It seems that you can only order wrapped kit with this program.
No lacquer finish at Pearl music City?
Tnx
This is what I want next I'm just a little intimidated by putting it together. Putting my alesis together about drove me crazy.

Hi NICK,,,what snare and heads on it,,,also what sticks are you using?
I love watching your reviews ... could you do a Pearl Reference kit sometime?
Pearl REFERENCE, not Reference PURE.....
Can you do a video on how to tune it? Plz, im struggling trying to tune it
i really like this guy but i just hate the way he tunes drums
Carlos Bandala they always sound thin right?
Carlos Bandala he didn't tune them. The kit was tuned like that out of the box.

How about your no leg hihat and clamp?
Rubber claws on bass drum hoops? Niiice
Ribbon mics on the kicks? Who set this up?
As good as any top end dw
In that price range it all comes to personal taste
Ya for 10.000$ this kit can be all yours
Is that drum complete
Hey Nick do you give lessons?
what is the best gretsch drum shell that isn`t to expensive or cheap
toon putteman Catalina's or Energy series
Those drums would be great for recording purposes. For live situation those shells won't cut through like maple shells will.
Funnily enough, almost all drums include maple in it.

This particular kit in the video is $6,762.00
Sweetwater Savings: $4,508.00 MSRP: $11,270.00 (From their website) for the 8-piece
Dare I ask? What's the cost!
how much does a drum kit like that cost?
Abel Robles $6k-10k
Bring back the Big 24" Duel Cannons and mount the floor tom hanging over the other two. Peace out.

Something about the sound of pearl drums just my opinion I just don’t get it just two boxy not enough warmth
Those tom triplets sound like the jesus of suburbia tom fill
