That’s Nick D’Virgilio. He’s played with Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Spock’s Beard (my personal favorite), Big Big Train, Cirque du Solei, Totem show, he’s a multi instrumentalist who can play drums, guitar, bass, piano, and this year, he has a new album out called Invisible. It’s an incredible record!!!! I should know because he gave me a signed vinyl record copy of Invisible!!!!! Every song on that record is amazing!!!! My particular favorite is Where’s the Passion. I have no doubt in my mind that Invisible will achieve Platinum status!!!!

Nick is pretty much the best person I could imagine to demo drums- based on the videos I have seen of him on this channel. Class act and amazing player! Oh yeah and these drums look sweet.

Violins and other orchestral instruments are like a million dollars each. Same with people who’ll only play grand pianos.
A lot of orchestral woodwind instruments can get up there in cost too.
There are pianos out there that cost more than a house.
Any professional instrument will be expensive

So many people think this kit sucks because it says Pearl on it. If Sweetwater played a joke on everyone and changed the front kick heads, shell hardware, and badges to DW, and nobody knew, everyone would say it's an awesome kit. Personally I think Pearl make awesome kits, and this kit sounds fantastic!

I did a kit shoot out between the Pearl Reference Pure and a DW Collector's (With a rare high end finish, no less), and I *strongly* preferred the sound of the Pearl kit. The Reference Pure has a much more deep, rich tone than the DW.
I think DW has the best brand in drumming right now, but really, at this level of kit, none of them are bad, just different, and it's a matter of preference. Hating on the Reference Pure because it's Pearl is just being close-minded though.
Didn't know people hate on pearl. I just don't care for these toms, not enough tone fir me. With ambassadors there should be more tone than this. With emperors like I like to use these would sound dead

I believe that the Pearl company has led the way in drum innovation for many years . My first Pearl kit was about 48 years ago ! (I am old !!) . Like most Japanese products they gave themselves a bad name with sub standard products when they started and that reputation unjustly still lingers . Case in point Yamaha's pianos , as good as a Steinway ! ( Great drums too). These reference kits are heavy but what a great musical instrument and hardware is the best.
I want every kit Nick demonstrates because he makes them sound SOOOO GOOOOD!!

A kit like this would be useful for either a touring band with roadies or it will be sitting in someone's house. No drummer is schlepping this kit around. That's for sure..

You can really tell the difference in tone between the 10 and 12" toms. They DO sound like they each belong to a different kit. I seriously think the 12" tom sounds the best out of all those drums!

This is what I want next I'm just a little intimidated by putting it together. Putting my alesis together about drove me crazy.
Awesome and beautiful kit. Only problem I see with kit is the position of the ride cymbal, almost at an uncomfortable playing angle. Then again, it was set up for display and features.

lmfao! you want $6000 for a reference kit?! for a little more you could get a masterworks with any options you want. If you want a killer deal have a dealer look at Pearl's B stock list. Back in 2002 I got a B-Stock double bass 8 piece Masterworks kit for $1400

Mienl cymbals are shit as far as im concerned ive not heard a good cymbal they have made plus they sound to cheap and look cheap.. I like the paiste pst8 reflectors in the 18inch. But thats me.

Those drums would be great for recording purposes. For live situation those shells won't cut through like maple shells will.
Funnily enough, almost all drums include maple in it.

You must have the Roadshow jazz kit with the 18 kick.....I have 1 of those kits as a secondary kit while my main kit is a Pearl EXR custom configuration....Great sound and quality for a beginner series in the Roadshow kit....

What would a kit like this set you back?
I did a similar order myself recently - I got 6 toms, 2 kicks, 4 octobans, and a snare, with gold hardware, and that was around $10,000 USD. If you ditch the gold and octobans, you're probably looking at around $8,000-$8,500.
Rich man you are lol it's a bit out of what I can afford but still a nice kit.
Ah, I saved up for a good few years to be able to justify that expense, hehe.
But, I think it is right around $1,000 USD per shell, so a standard 5 piece (3 toms, kick, snare) would run around $5,000 USD, perhaps slightly more. It's expensive to be sure, but the sound is second to none from the kits I've played and heard.

Why do pearl toms ALWAYS sound like cardboard boxes to me?? I cant figure it out. No matter the heads, sticks, or player, just no tone. I actually gave away an Export ELX set because I couldnt get any tone.

Really irks me when he says the dimensions backwards. Example: standard snare is 5x14 when it's actually to most drummers14x5. Diameter by depth not the other way around
