KALLAMITY 1/35 "The Otter"-Full Scratch Built Original Mech

  • This is my newest project I'm currently working on. The Otter is an amphibious versatile mech, designed by I.C.A. (See Abakan 2301 art book for more informations about the background story) both for underwater and on the surface tasks and for amphibious military uses. It's in 1/35 scale and it'll become a Kallamity resin kit for sure. So excited about this project!
I’m planning to do couple of versions of it, so it will be possible to choose which kind of Unit modelers want to build, adding some option parts in the resin kit box.
I seriously can't wait to paint a copy of each versions.
This first Otter video is around concept art and earlier steps of the scratch building of the master. Second part will be out soon!
This design is very different from other designs and mech I created previously. The Otter belongs to the same I.C.A. faction of the “PINKMAN” and distinguishes a lot from other Weingart Units I did previously like the “Briegel”, “SchnabelGun” and “Wachtel“ and represents an expansion of Kallamity and Abakan saga Universe!
At the end of description you can find a list of related links.
As usual a BIG THANK YOU goes to PHONOREM, who provided again a great atmospheric music for my videos.
He’s launching his new Album, if you like to give a support to him:

Thank you! I grew up with this wonderful Japanese scene , since i born in Italy this amazing world was not popular and i’ve learned basic techniques through Hobby Japan Max Watanabe articles, but from pictures only 😀. That’s why i love your style so much in scratch building, this reminds those old good times. Thank you my friend

Oh yes, you definitely need a hole in the table 😅connected to vacuum. Check for one that won’t be affected by thin powders. I have a Dyson under table, i know it’s expensive but it’s working all the day since 2008

Great stuff, man. Making my first scratch-built mech presently.
I've got the base, frame, legs, arms done. Just adding more greeble & maybe more plating.
But it's a small boy (less than 100mm tall) but it's not bad for a day's work.
Will have a vid out on Friday hopefully.
Looking forward to seeing more of your mech, dude.

How on earth do you manage to keep everything matching and so symmetrical? I'm currently in the midst of sculpting a Kow Yokoyama style mech (so large organic curves) and maintaining the symmetry is....a challenge...(I also desperately need a little dust extractor like you have here for all the apoxie dust). Love these build videos - seeing the process is so valuable. Many thanks for sharing!

I was just thinking instead of making two identical parts, could you have started from a single base peice ,then cast it in resin ,to get the mirrior. Then modify that to get the left and right. That way you don't spend as much time getting them symmetrical.

    • @KALLAMITY2288
      @KALLAMITY2288  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello! Good question. Thanks! Scratch building the final shape of two symmetrical pieces is not a big deal. Hip attachment and outer hip are mirrored in this case, so are some other details. This means that casted parts would receive a re-sculpting of 40-50% of the piece. This is the actual waist of time and material since i won’t use those molds and sketchy parts obtained from it for any other future builds. Also, doing symmetrical parts are always a good exercise to become a better sculptor 😃. I do casting of my parts everyday (please watch Sazabi video) but just when they are ready to use.

Well, I like to see the process in making the sculpture even the tedious one. If you dislike the process, that would be your problem then.
