@@willn8664 of course you know by now but you have to take the top off, or at least unscrw the bolts that attach the front to the top. i recommend taking it off anyway, gives you more access to reach everything.

I had that same problem with my older , non electronic dryer. It lit up but no motor sound. I thought it was dead so I went and ordered a new dryer. I took the dryer outside and decided too take it apart just for grins and I took the top off first and lo and behold , I had a 2 piece belt. I went into town, got a new belt and fixed the machine for $39.00 . I cancelled my order for a new dryer. Great video. thanks.

Thanks for the video. Another tip is to take photos of the circuit board before you remove the cables so you know where they go back when you're done. Also if you have a hard time remembering we're all the screws go back it never hurts to make a little sketch and lay the screws out on it.
The problem I had with my dryer was it was making a screeching noise. So if you remove the front panel with the door there are two felt pads along the top. For now I just flipped them around so the non-worn outside is now face up. That seems to have done the trick and there is no more screeching. I also took the time to bust out the Shop-Vac and give everything a good cleaning while I had it apart. I was surprised how much dirt and dog hair was in the ductwork beneath the lint trap.

I had the same clicking noise when I pushed start but I thought it was a broken drum belt and that is what it was...Your video was great in helping me take apart the dryer and replace so thank you for putting it up. The one addition I can make is that it was very tough for me to move the tension pulley with one hand but after some fruntration I realized I was able to reach under the drum with my other hand and that made it easier for me.. Thank you again

Ty sir , my problem was a lil different . I took off the heat deflector thinking it was just like the older ones. I found out quickly it’s not . I used your video to learn how to take it apart and common sense I seen it had to line up with a piece behind the drum.
So if anyone has lint behind the deflector don’t be like me and take it all the way off. Or maybe thats common sense to . Lol

Jake you saved the day!!! And the wallet!!! My repair started the exact same way you described, and what I mean by that is my wife yelled from the basement and told me the dryer would not start (I know, husbands are tools, oh well). When I found your video it was a bombshell, because not only did I have the same issue, but I also have the same dryer. Can’t get much better than that! Anyway, I skipped the diagnostics, disassembled the dryer, and like you found the belt was broken. 2 hours later (including the trip to appliance store), I have a spinning dryer.

Hi, thank you for the video. I can’t seem to get help from GE because i bought my dryer off facebook marketplace. worked fine for 2.5 years until a few days ago.
followed your video and like you, the belt was indeed broken - ordered a new belt, took everything apart and put back together with new belt.. turns on and will now go through a whole cycle, but the drum still won’t spin.
like i said, GE won’t help me when i call, your video is quite literally, the only in depth video i can find for this model (we have the same one). i have pictures of the belt reattached to the lever/motor/drum and it all seems correct.. is there anything i might have missed??
thank you in advance if you answer this. ❤

Mine was doing the exact same thing today. No codes or anything. Replaced the belt and still the same thing, but I am going to replace the switch tomorrow and see if fixes my issues. My relays on the board seem to be working and clicking just like yours. Helpful tip, I found out that on this model the service manual is wrong about getting it into diagnostic mode. If you press and hold the start, twice the knob 180, then wait 3 seconds seemed to do the trick every time.

If you don't mind me asking - how did you wind up fixing your dryer? Mine was showing the same initial clicking symptom with no drum movement but when I opened up the case, the belt was intact. I kept digging until I got down to where I could remove the idler switch to test continuity, and it seems to be working as it should during an open and closed situation. At this point I'm a little stumped as to the next step - motor?

My dryer of the same model has a different problem. Often the heating does not work, but sometimes it does. Could you tell me why this is happening?

Jake, you’re the man! Thanks for making this detailed and helpful video. This evening our dryer made a loud BANG then the drum wouldn’t start so we will be following your instructions tomorrow. 😅

When I was running service mode test my door was consistently saying DO meaning door open when it was closed from what the eye could see? Any fix for this.

Hi what if the power won’t turn on? We had to change the 4 prong to 3 prong and plugged it in, but no power. Please help!

Thanks for the video! I have the same dryer, I can’t find the model number thought. We are having a similar problem. It is making a really loud squeaky sound, so I assume it’s also the belt. What exactly did you look up to find the belt?

I have the same dryer and was wondering if you had any tips on how to clean out the lint trap without taking it apart like you did or if that’s the only way to get it cleaned properly?
