Apparently I mispronounced the title of the book in an alarming way. Not my fault. They shoulda spelt it better. By they I mean whoever. Plus I've never heard another human say the word out loud in my life. Nor have I ever seen the word in print (and I read a LOT) other than on the title of this book
"Sword..." was my first major novel to read (though, as a tiny kid, my family members took turns reading segments of classic adventure stories like "Merry Adventures of Robin Hood" and many Roald Dahl books), and, I, too, waited many years for the sequel, loved the "Landover" series, and more. And, years after "Sword..." attracted me to write my own fiction, I spoke with a Del Rey rep who mentioned to me that Mr. Brooks originally had written the four of this second series as one 1,000 page book, but the publishing company asked him to split it into four volumes for sales purposes. I think the series suffered because of that, especially in "Elf Queen..." - there was a lot of filler as each book covered the activities of characters who, if they had been in one volume, would have been in different chapters, in a tighter form. I also recall that in "Druid..." Walker opens the story where it left, after cutting off his hand to stop the Black Elfstone from turning his arm to stone. Buuuut, in that opening, the editor dropped continuity and one reads that Walker falls on his "hands" - it's in the first few pages, I think. That was quite the error on the editorial side! Thank you, Brian! God bless, man!! Love ya!
I started reading again on a regular basis in 2023. I started with that series. I read the original series back in the late 1990s when I was a teenager.
@ nope. scion noun sci·on ˈsī-ən Look it up in a dictionary. I find it very very strange that English speaking people don’t know how to pronounce this properly.
Ive tried to read this around 4 times. I think the first was when i was in seventh grade, when it was fairly new. I just couldn't get into it. I liked Elfstones, which I read a few years ago.
Have you read the late 80s Fantasy series ´Legends of Lone Wolf´ by Jon Dever & John Grant? A continuation of the universe where the Game books are set. From a time without moral relativism and celebration of the pathological, I use these books like a Junker uses drug I think, escape to a better world. They´re going for a total injection of Current day(TM) politics into every book, comic, TV show or movie so I have been steadily regressing in order to not be lectured about how bad I and my family are and it have been bliss, not always great literature but then people get HUGO awards for worse nowadays so I enjoy my escapism.

I blame the Bri´sh, that usually make me feel better when I misspronounce something.
THE GOAT!
Shannara is my comfort food. I love that series. Same as you, it was the first book I ever bought at 10 years old. I think I read it 3 times in a row.
I love that, yes!
I just love that you are reading older books and this bringing new books to my attention
I, too, loved Shannara but the Sword of Shannara was the fellowship of the ring all over again.
Love this series, especially Druid.

Great review!! Keep it up mate!
Loved that series. It’s funny, for almost every character, you pronounced the names totally differently to how I do.

Love you Brain, but surely you don’t actually think that’s how the word SCION is pronounced?

Parkinson is great, font or title design is great.
On audiobook it's said Sci-ons. (Psy-ons) It's similar to Zions, since you live in Utah. We forgive you.
I hate the Shannara stuff, but I like your videos. Judge me... 😉
Shy ons. {Scions}
