It all started with BTS of course and their loose treatment of those terms. Also, vocal guides - absolutely true but not the ad libs and background vocals, they use whatever vocal fits the song more.

BTS has 7 very talented members, all with very different styles. However, together there is a reason they are the biggest group worldwide, with 7 high level performers and talents. Definitely check out all their solo work, but don't miss out on the group BTS work. They began in 2013, so there is a massive back catalogue of music for you to explore. BTS is not like pop bands we have in the west, they started as a hiphop group, but now cover many genres of music, including rap, pop, latin pop, edm, hip hop and much more. A lot of their best music is in Korean, so just put your subtitles on as the lyrics are very meaningful. They write, compose and produce their own music and write about social issues like mental health, social anxiety, societal expectations on young people and self love. The group is made up of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists, all extremely skilled and experienced. They are amazing dancers also, so their choreography is known to be some of the most challenging and complex on some of their MVs and live shows in particular. They are all undertaking mandatory military service in South Korea at the moment (apart from Jin, who has just been discharged). They undertook solo projects just before they enlisted, but will be back together as a group mid 2025, when they all have finished military. While they are in the military they can't do anything else, or even promote their music, so they prepared lots of music to come out throughout the 1.5 years of their military service (their record company can release it if it was produced before enlistment, but they can't promote it themselves). BTS have global fandom, called Army, with approximately 90 million people of all ages as fans. They sell out stadiums worldwide now as the biggest group in the world currently. If you want to really see how diverse and talented they are, try a few of their korean songs. They made 3 english songs during the pandemic to cheer people up, but the korean ones are amazing and I prefer them. ARMY doesn't really like to compare them against one another. They all have their own sounds and have all had successful solo albums. Except for Jin, who's working on his first album. We're just waiting for 2025 when the all come out of the military
Solo stans will tell you one member is more popular than the other. The truth is that the fanbases for individual members are different demographics who behave differently. ARMY as a whole loves and supports each member, even if we have a "bias." Also, members have different styles -- rap vs jazzy vs pop rock vs alt rap vs straight pop vs rock rap. They really cover the whole board, but the pure pop always does better on the charts. The combination of all their different flavors makes an explosion on stage.

Same but isn't the way with BTS each one is our favourite no point trying to be THE favourite because it just doesn't work. They are a team a brotherhood a force that no one can match up to. The Super Group of 7 extremely talented men who have similar and very different talents and tastes in music and you never know what you are going to get next so that keeps it fresh and surprising.

loving your BTS solo reactions! 💜I really appreciate the fact that you're so open to all of it. I love JK soooo much. He was the one who drew me into BTS. I could talk about his talents all damn day. In my opinion, SNTY is the best song of 2023. Having said that, my advice is to resist comparing the members. Many commenters will tell you one of them is the "best" ... dancer, singer, soloist....and IMO that's just not accurate. Each of the 7 is amazing and irreplaceable. Some will also say one is the "main" or "lead" in something without defining what those terms mean. In BTS, the singers all sing main parts of the songs, and the rappers all have verses, pretty much equally. So when someone says "he's the lead singer" or "he's the main singer" to a western music fan, that conjures up the wrong picture. And I'm not just talking about comments on this reaction -- I see it a lot, referring to different members. Anyway, love you guys and I'm a new subscriber!

You should watch Jung Kook performance live at TSX in Times Square, NY from last year. He performs 5 songs off his all-English album, GOLDEN, live and it was FREE and basically unannounced. He packed the streets. He also did this song live on iHeart Radio (there's a video of this). I only listen to BTS as far as "K-Pop" is concerned. BTS has been around since 2013, and their discography as a group and as soloists is crazy...in a fantastic way. There are 3 rappers and 4 vocalists in the group. Jung Kook has been their Main Vocalist since the young age of 15 when they made their debut in 2013. Also, both Jimin and Jung Kook have performed MJ's Black and White dance which is somewhere on YT. Their main channel for dance practices and behind-the-scenes is called BANGTANTV. HYBE is their company, which Big Hit is part of now, so their MV's are on the HYBE channel. Anything not on those 2 channels is not an official video of BTS, and there are a lot of fan-made videos (just to let you know). Check out their Live on BANGTANTV channel of 2 songs back to back from October 2022 (the last time they performed together as a group before mandatory military started over the following year) and it was called the Yet to Come concert in Busan, South Korea (a free concert too). Anyway, the songs are Mic Drop followed by "Run BTS". Both are high energy songs. Mic Drop has an MV, but Run BTS (the song, not the show) was off their Proof album from 2022, has no MV and this live concert was the first/only time so far that they performed that song. There are also dance practice videos for that performance. Oh, and you also need to check out Suga (aka AgustD), RM, Jin, and V.
Suga said (I'm paraphrasing here) that as flattering as it was to be compared to the Beatles ("the Beatles of the 21st century") they preferred to be called the BTS of the 21st century. In other words, stop comparing them to other people and evaluate them as their own package. People keep trying to put them into boxes, ignoring the entirety of what they can do, either as a group or as soloists. You admit that you ignored them because you had them labeled as a "boy band", now you're labeling them as MJ or the Weekend, but that's just a bigger box. Just crank open that door in your brain and say, "here's a really amazing group that's worth listening to".

oh just a side note tattoos are not thought highly of in South Korea however BTS all have tattoo's and JungKook and Jimin are the most tatted up. They have to keep them covered when they go on South Korean TV but openly show them when any where else. So JungKook sleave is very unusual and his hand also tattoeed with ARMY across it and when ever he kisses that hand he's kissing ARMY. They all have a number 7 tattooed on their bodies which they did for their 10th anniversary it's their Friendship tattoo BTS is 7.

A good handful of kpop artists had tried to break into the west over the years, but it was always seen as a fad to come and go. BTS rose to popularity without the support of the kpop industry, doing their own thing and using social media to reach fans when the kpop industry iced them out. (No air time, disrespected for coming from a small label, cut from broadcasts, smear campaigns, you name it) But BTS found fans despite all that and in 2017, they kicked open the doors to the west by winning a Billboard Award. It forever changed not only kpop's place in western music, but the West itself. After their performances, and seeing the crowd reaction, every artist there wanted to take photos with them. And every artist sat there, going, "I gotta up my game." That's why you hear BTS's name above all others. They grew organically from the bottom and to this day the haters in the industry are trying to take them down.

BTS has 7 very talented members, all with very different styles. However, together there is a reason they are the biggest group worldwide, with 7 high level performers and talents. Definitely check out all their solo work, but don't miss out on the group BTS work.
They began in 2013, so there is a massive back catalogue of music for you to explore. BTS is not like pop bands we have in the west, they started as a hiphop group, but now cover many genres of music, including rap, pop, latin pop, edm, hip hop and much more. A lot of their best music is in Korean, so just put your subtitles on as the lyrics are very meaningful. They write, compose and produce their own music and write about social issues like mental health, social anxiety, societal expectations on young people and self love. The group is made up of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists, all extremely skilled and experienced. They are amazing dancers also, so their choreography is known to be some of the most challenging and complex on some of their MVs and live shows in particular.
They are all undertaking mandatory military service in South Korea at the moment (apart from Jin, who has just been discharged). They undertook solo projects just before they enlisted, but will be back together as a group mid 2025, when they all have finished military. While they are in the military they can't do anything else, or even promote their music, so they prepared lots of music to come out throughout the 1.5 years of their military service (their record company can release it if it was produced before enlistment, but they can't promote it themselves).
BTS have global fandom, called Army, with approximately 90 million people of all ages as fans. They sell out stadiums worldwide now as the biggest group in the world currently.
If you want to really see how diverse and talented they are, try a few of their korean songs. They made 3 english songs during the pandemic to cheer people up, but the korean ones are amazing and I prefer them. Some MV's to start: Black Swan, Mic Drop, Fake Love, Idol, DNA, On Kinetic Manifesto, Dope, Fire, Not Today, Airplane pt 2, Save Me.
Live performances to start: Festa 2021, Tiny Desk, MMA 2019, MMA 2018.
Rap line songs to start: Ugh, Outro Series, Cypher series, Born Singer, Baepsae (Silver Spoon).
Vocal Line songs: House of Cards, The Truth Untold.

ARMY doesn't really like to compare them against one another. They all have their own sounds and have all had successful solo albums. Except for Jin, who's working on his first album. We're just waiting for 2025 when the all come out of the military

Solo stans will tell you one member is more popular than the other. The truth is that the fanbases for individual members are different demographics who behave differently. ARMY as a whole loves and supports each member, even if we have a "bias."
Also, members have different styles -- rap vs jazzy vs pop rock vs alt rap vs straight pop vs rock rap.
They really cover the whole board, but the pure pop always does better on the charts.
The combination of all their different flavors makes an explosion on stage.

Same but isn't the way with BTS each one is our favourite no point trying to be THE favourite because it just doesn't work. They are a team a brotherhood a force that no one can match up to. The Super Group of 7 extremely talented men who have similar and very different talents and tastes in music and you never know what you are going to get next so that keeps it fresh and surprising.

loving your BTS solo reactions! 💜I really appreciate the fact that you're so open to all of it. I love JK soooo much. He was the one who drew me into BTS. I could talk about his talents all damn day. In my opinion, SNTY is the best song of 2023. Having said that, my advice is to resist comparing the members. Many commenters will tell you one of them is the "best" ... dancer, singer, soloist....and IMO that's just not accurate. Each of the 7 is amazing and irreplaceable. Some will also say one is the "main" or "lead" in something without defining what those terms mean. In BTS, the singers all sing main parts of the songs, and the rappers all have verses, pretty much equally. So when someone says "he's the lead singer" or "he's the main singer" to a western music fan, that conjures up the wrong picture. And I'm not just talking about comments on this reaction -- I see it a lot, referring to different members. Anyway, love you guys and I'm a new subscriber!

If I had to make a comment regarding Jimin and jk and who they most resemble as far as dance style. I would say Jimin reminds be of usher ( that’s his idol)! Jk reminds me of MJ. Bottomline they both dance crazy and have their own style!!!

You should watch Jung Kook performance live at TSX in Times Square, NY from last year. He performs 5 songs off his all-English album, GOLDEN, live and it was FREE and basically unannounced. He packed the streets. He also did this song live on iHeart Radio (there's a video of this). I only listen to BTS as far as "K-Pop" is concerned. BTS has been around since 2013, and their discography as a group and as soloists is crazy...in a fantastic way. There are 3 rappers and 4 vocalists in the group. Jung Kook has been their Main Vocalist since the young age of 15 when they made their debut in 2013. Also, both Jimin and Jung Kook have performed MJ's Black and White dance which is somewhere on YT. Their main channel for dance practices and behind-the-scenes is called BANGTANTV. HYBE is their company, which Big Hit is part of now, so their MV's are on the HYBE channel. Anything not on those 2 channels is not an official video of BTS, and there are a lot of fan-made videos (just to let you know). Check out their Live on BANGTANTV channel of 2 songs back to back from October 2022 (the last time they performed together as a group before mandatory military started over the following year) and it was called the Yet to Come concert in Busan, South Korea (a free concert too). Anyway, the songs are Mic Drop followed by "Run BTS". Both are high energy songs. Mic Drop has an MV, but Run BTS (the song, not the show) was off their Proof album from 2022, has no MV and this live concert was the first/only time so far that they performed that song. There are also dance practice videos for that performance.
Oh, and you also need to check out Suga (aka AgustD), RM, Jin, and V.
Suga said (I'm paraphrasing here) that as flattering as it was to be compared to the Beatles ("the Beatles of the 21st century") they preferred to be called the BTS of the 21st century. In other words, stop comparing them to other people and evaluate them as their own package. People keep trying to put them into boxes, ignoring the entirety of what they can do, either as a group or as soloists. You admit that you ignored them because you had them labeled as a "boy band", now you're labeling them as MJ or the Weekend, but that's just a bigger box. Just crank open that door in your brain and say, "here's a really amazing group that's worth listening to".

it was a total surprise for us! after the release of the original song and music video, everyone thought it resembled Justin's songs, and after some time a surprise remix was released with the lyrics changed by JT in his verse - guys, it's worth it!

2. I would definitely suggest listening to some of RM and Yoongi's (Suga) music. For RM his newer things are a little more gritty and dirty like Groin and Nuts, but also check out his early work like Do You, and Joke. For Suga (moniker Agust D) you should check out shadow interlude, Agust D, Daechwita & Haegeum.

This song is fire. Jungkook is amazing. I’ve seen a few artists try to cover the song while doing the choreo, and uh… 😬 It’s not easy. It’s amazing how every member of BTS has something special and they are sincere when they perform and write and just happen to be the good and humble people, even they hella swag performers.

oh just a side note tattoos are not thought highly of in South Korea however BTS all have tattoo's and JungKook and Jimin are the most tatted up. They have to keep them covered when they go on South Korean TV but openly show them when any where else. So JungKook sleave is very unusual and his hand also tattoeed with ARMY across it and when ever he kisses that hand he's kissing ARMY. They all have a number 7 tattooed on their bodies which they did for their 10th anniversary it's their Friendship tattoo BTS is 7.

A good handful of kpop artists had tried to break into the west over the years, but it was always seen as a fad to come and go.
BTS rose to popularity without the support of the kpop industry, doing their own thing and using social media to reach fans when the kpop industry iced them out. (No air time, disrespected for coming from a small label, cut from broadcasts, smear campaigns, you name it)
But BTS found fans despite all that and in 2017, they kicked open the doors to the west by winning a Billboard Award.
It forever changed not only kpop's place in western music, but the West itself. After their performances, and seeing the crowd reaction, every artist there wanted to take photos with them. And every artist sat there, going, "I gotta up my game."
That's why you hear BTS's name above all others.
They grew organically from the bottom and to this day the haters in the industry are trying to take them down.
