    Thank you so much for simplifying this process, Cristen. I walked away from a braided table runner last week that was meant to be a Christmas gift. Now, I feel confident enough to return to it and get it finished! You are a treasure, and I genuinely appreciate your kind and simple way of teaching us. Hugs

      Hi Teresa, There are tons of videos out on youtube on those subjects. It is a bit overwhelming, isn't it? I actually have a virtual class (self paced) that I teach the entire quilt making process start to finish. I find it easier to learn when you can ask your questions and get answers back (It is closed for enrollment right now... but it is opening up again next month) You can add your name to the waitlist to be notified when it opens here: iseestarsquilting.shop/mqmewaitlist-5782

    I am a new subscriber and love what you are doing. Can you please tell me what sewing machine you are using? Thank you and happy quilting!

      Hi Mickey, I have a Janome Horizon 15,000. It's a beautiful machine. It is a higher level machine and NOT what I began my quilting journey on. If you're looking for a midrange quilting machine that has great proven abilities I suggest a Janome 3160QDC. I use that one for travel or smaller projects. I started my quilting journey on a regular cheap Walmart sewing machine and upgraded as I was able to. 😘

    I love your channel! I started a quilting course many years ago but was not able to finish. Instead of trimming the french braid, could you continue adding pieces on the sides?

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting
      @ISeeStarsQuilting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You absolutely could. It might end up with some weird y seams when joining them together? Or you could trim the sides and join with other blocks. Good to keep thinking. Let me know if you try it!

    Can you do quilt as you go with this block?

      I think you absolutely could. Just need some type of sashing in between and it would look great!

    I watch you alot. I have 2 jelly rolls that equal 40- 40 inch strips. If I cut them 2 1/2 by 6 inch. How many would I need to make a small throw for my Grandson? You are very information. I just made a small throw just by sewing my strips together. Now i would like to make a french braid throw for my Grandson. I have 2 - 20 jelly rolls=40 strips. How many strips do you think I would need with the braid? Also how many rows going across? Thank you in advance.

      Hi Janet. This is a pretty loaded question and all depends on the size quilt you're wanting to end up with! ❤️

    Christen! Great video and perfect timing too! I’m working on two panels quilts for a set of twins…boy and girl. They are identical teddy ears…but one panel has a pink bow and the other a blue. So cute…enormous for a panel. I could quilt it and bind it and be done…but of course a seasoned quilter aunty can and won’t don’t such things. This will make the perfect main border and wow…couldn’t be easier. TY for this awesome tutorial!
    On another note….I notice you have a Janome Horizon. Me too! I have been having problems with my auto thread cutter and returned with machine in tow several times to my dealer. I notice you stitch auto cut and then stitch your next piece. Are you editing out pulling the needle thread and holding it while you make the first few stitches…or are you, as I suspect, just stitching? If I were to just stitch, I’d have a nest of threads and/or top thread breakage. My dealer tells me the thread cutter is not intended to work the way I think should. What say you…cause I’m getting ready to trade the machine in. I was also told that like my former machine, not a Janome, that when I stopped stitching if the needle was in the need down position, the foot would automatically lift half the full lift allowing for ease of pivot, etc. I kinda feeling a bit duped. 🤔

      I have to admit that I have had absolutely no formal training on my sewing machine. I'm very much a figure it out as you go, kind of girl, but I am absolutely smitten over this machine. I love it so much. (love that we're sewing machine twins, by the way!) I do have 2 friends who have the same machine so I've watched them and sewn with them a few times. I've never held the threads for the first few stitches... I just sew and go. My first thought would be to ask what kind of thread you use in your machine. And I don't mean to sound snobish in any way, but the cheaper threads have more wax in them to keep them smooth. That can add to build up in your machine and cause all kinds of troubles. I usually use 50 weight thread and only the more premium brands. Aurofil is one of my favorites. Also, double check your needle size with the manual. I've heard of a few people having troubles that all came down to the wrong needle size - especially in the auto threading feature. I think there is a setting that you can adjust for the presser foot to automatically pop up a half bit, but I can't think of it off the top of my head. I usually just use the knee bar on mine with the needle down to pivot. If you have anymore questions, I'm happy to give my two cents, but I'm not an expert... You could also try calling a different dealer or repair shop and see what they have to say. it might help! ❤

      Try using scrap pieces of fabric to lead into your stitches. It’s called leaders and enders. It can help with the bird nesting of your thread. My first machine was a Brother from Walmart. It was a wonderful machine for piecing, but it was awful about bird nesting the thread. I have a Juki 2010Q now it’s not as bad at the nesting but still happens. I learned about using
      leaders and enders from Lori Holt. Try it and see if it helps.

      Thank You So Much For The Thread Tip!😄 I've been wondering & trying to find which thread would be best. I've come to value your opinion, so I'm gonna try it! Thank You again!
